Chapter Five

Jax and his team which consisted of Mattie, Cerberus, Anubis, Fenrir, Enoch, and Ares. Of course, Bob came along with them because it was his ship they were taking, but Bob wasn't fighting material. If something went wrong they'd also need him to be ready to fly them out of there. Jax had filled everyone in on Derek's plan during the ride. Jax had to admit it was a pretty good plan, but he had some reservations about it just because Derek was new, and could be another traitor. Jax shook his head. If Derek did turn out to he a traitor Zeek would lose it. Jax remembered the few months after the last traitor.

Zeek had barely left his room then we started to get new recruits like Texas and Vivian. He would come out to greet them and grill them about why they were here. Jax felt bad for Zeek. He couldn't trust anyone and Jax could see that Zeek hated life then more than ever. Texas and Vivian weren't too put off by his outburst so the rest of us didn't think anything of it either. That was until Fluffy and Fang showed up with Cerberus. Jax had been on the couch when Cerberus came in with the two young werewolves. Jax thought Zeek should be better now, boy was he wrong. As soon as Zeek heard there were new arrivals he was up out of bed and grilled Fluffy and Fang about who they were who they worked for stuff like that. He sounded crazy, but none of us had the heart to tell him so. Fang almost broke out crying, but Mattie stepped in and gently removed Zeek from the situation. Fang is still a bit afraid of Zeek. Jitter had showed up only a few days ago and Zeek still grilled him pretty hard, but Jitter is a bit different than that rest of our members and it didn't really affect him as much. Jax was actually a bit surprised that Zeek didn't flip worse than he did when Derek showed up.

After Jax had dropped off Derek to a room he found Zeek in his office crying and cursing at a picture of the traitor. Jax had never seen him cry before. He didn't think Zeek was capable of it. "I'll keep an eye on him for ya 'kay Zeek?" Jax saw that he'd startled Zeek, but pretended not to notice. "If he's another spy I'll find out and dispose of him." Zeek didn't say anything but gave Jax a warm smile. He was trying to hide his pain, as usual, but Jax just smiled back and began researching everything he could on Derek. He found out his dad was a doctor and had a private practice so not a lot on him readily available. Derek didn't have a record, but the president did inform him that Derek hacked into their government databases within minutes. Jax couldn't find a school he attended so he assumed homeschooled. He also looked up his hospital records, the only thing he found was that when he was born his mother died due to complications during the birth. According to his medical records, he was born healthy with no disability. Although there was the hemophilia he could smell. Jax had noticed a lack of sound coming from Derek. He didn't hum, talk or mutter. Jax assumed mute selective or born didn't really matter. He was getting frustrated when he ultimately decided to snoop in Derek's laptop. He found some street cams running pointed at his house. He also found a video of Derek. He was able to watch it before Derek had come back. Jax couldn't find the words to ask about the video so he just asked Derek some simple questions he knew the answers to and left. Derek was clean. He was more than clean he was a victim, and Jax felt a pit in his stomach for assuming the worst. He tried to convince Zeek, but that was like convincing a rock to move. He didn't get anywhere. With this new information about a possible terrorist cell knowing about them maybe Jax thought he should look deeper into Derek, but something told him he was looking in the wrong place. Mattie tapped his shoulder bringing him back to the present. They were getting ready to land. "Be ready for anything. We don't know what we're walking in on.

Derek heard Jax's voice crackle through the comlink. They were preparing to land which meant it was showtime. "I heard that you cracked the government's database in minutes. Let's see if that was an exaggeration." Jax taunted. Derek gritted his teeth. He had cracked it in five minutes. This should be easy, but every system I different. Derek cracked his knuckles and his fingers flew across the keyboard as he scanned the code and broke right through it. "Wait how am I supposed to know when you're in? You can't fucking talk." Jax sounded a bit pissed that he'd overlooked that, but Derek couldn't just communicate with sign language. He began to tap on his earpiece in more code. He told Jax that he could communicate like that. Jax stuttered for a moment then hollered into the comlink, "you should have done that sooner you prick!" Derek smiled to himself and tapped that he was in. He heard Jax give orders then turned the volume a bit down. Jax's yelling was a bit unbearable when it was right in his ear.

Derek watched them through the cameras and was keeping an eye out for anyone who could kick him out of the system. Everything seemed to be going good from his end. So he decided to look at the other camera feeds. He started to flip through them on repeat only spending a few seconds on one at a time. Zeek asked what he was doing, but Derek was too focused to answer. Something didn't seem right as he flipped through the cameras. He stopped on certain one then asked Jax where they were turning up his volume. Jax told him they were going down a hall and heading to a door near the east side upstairs. Derek felt all the blood drain from his face as he frantically tapped for him to take his team and get out then. Jax was very confused and Zeek beside him looked frightened. Derek wanted to yell and scream, but no sound came out. Zeek grabbed his shoulder as best he could and looked him in the eyes. "Calm down and tell Jax what is going on." Zeek smiled to reassure him. Derek smiled back and took a deep breath and tapped out to Jax that the camera feed for the room they were going to enter was being looped so he couldn't see who was in there. Zeek started yelling telling Jax to get out of there, but Jax told his team to leave, but he was going to find out who was behind this. He told Derek to try to hack into the feed as fast as he could. Derek nodded and started to combat the loop. Zeek kept yelling, but eventually, he tuned him out. He started to hammer the keys with frustration. He couldn't figure out what he was doing wrong. Jax yelled asking for an update. Derek tapped out that he couldn't do it.

"Don't give me that crap! You hacked into the government in minutes! Come on kid don't make me come back as a ghost and extirpate your ass!" Jax screamed into Derek's ear. Derek covered his face and started to cry. He didn't know what he could do. It was as if whoever made the loop knew all of Derek's tricks. "Kid! Come on! I know you can do this!" Derek shook his head still crying then Zeek hit him with his casted hand. Derek looked at Zeek then at the computer screen. Derek took another look at the loop and started to work on it again. Zeek watched over his shoulder. Derek started to practically destroy his computer with how hard he was bashing keys. Finally, he was in. He excitedly tapped to Jax that he was in. There was nothing in the room, which gave Derek an uneasy feeling. "Yes! I knew you could do it, kid! Now watch my back." Derek soon realized why he didn't like the look of the empty room. There was a small red dot blinking by the door. Before Derek could say anything Jax had opened the door and a huge explosion took out the cameras. Derek and Zeek stared speechless at the screen. Derek touched his ear where the comlink was and felt blood around it. He'd heard a loud explosion in his ear then a pop and nothing. He carefully removed it and looked at the blown speaker inside. He was too shocked to really do anything. All he could think was that he'd gotten Jax killed. It was all his fault.
