"Ugh..." My body was throbbing in pain. I slowly blinked my eyes open and winced when the light from the ceiling flashed on my eyes. I tried to move my hand to cover my eyes but something was holding me back. I looked to my side and noticed the metal straps pinning me down. They were attached to the bed I was resting on.
"What the-!? Where am I?!" My feet, too, were pinned to the bed by thick straps. I frantically tried to slip out of the straps but it was impossible. I also noticed an unconscious blonde little girl on another bed next to mine but she wasn't pinned to the bed. My blood boiled at the sight. "How dare him!? She's just a child..!"
When I looked around me, I flinched.
The room looked like a prison cell brawl gone bad. In one corner laid the top half of two men's bodies with blood still oozing from their bottom half and their guts spilling out. If I hadn't seen a scene like this before, it would cause a normal person to throw up all over the place. But I was still terrified, not because of the bloody scene but because of what could happen to me and the girl.
I had already figured that Ryan brought me here for his experiment, and if I didn't get out of there, I'd die. I looked around for any key or anything else that could help me get out. There was a hammer and a knife laying in one corner, but other than that, there was nothing else.
"Damn it!" I sighed in frustration.
Just then, I spotted a key along with other surgery equipments on the table next to my bed. But I couldn't reach it because of the straps. When my eyes landed upon the girl, an idea struck my mind.
"Hey! Can you hear me?" I called out to the girl. "Wake up! You're in danger!"
The little girl groaned and fluttered her eyes open. She got up and looked at me. The sight of the room horrified her.
"Wh-Where am I?" She whimpered as tears started rolling down her cheeks.
"Hey, listen. There's nothing to worry about." I smiled at her, "Just follow what I say and you'll be alright."
Although she was terrified and concerned when she noticed the shards of glasses sticking out of my arms, she nodded eagerly. "Good. See the key over there?" I jerked my chin in the direction of the table, "Take the key and unlock these straps on me."
She nodded and jumped down the bed. She took the key and ran over to me. I smiled at her as she began removing the straps one by one.
"It's done!" The girl smiled.
"That was... surprisingly easy..?" I frowned as I got up. It was suspicious that the key was left here in the first place.
"Thank you." I patted her head before getting out of the bed, "Now we just have t—"
"Well, what do we have here?"
I recognized the voice immediately. I quickly grabbed the knife from the corner and pushed the girl behind me. The girl hid under one of the beds, wimpering in fear. Ryan walked out from the hallway which was covered in the shadows.
I glared at him, "How many would you kill until you're satisfied!?"
"You're the last one, Rai. If you give up your life like a good boy..." He kicked at the dead bodies as he walked up to me with a crooked smile, "All those lives will not be in vain."
I ignored his words and continued, "You killed Sam that day, didn't you? And that's why you left the orphanage so hastily."
"You catch up quick." He sat on the bed right above the girl and smiled, "But you were too naïve to actually believe what Aleck said. Everything from the time I killed Sam to this moment..it was all planned so that I could get you here on your own."
My eyes widened in shock. We were all fooled and walked right into his trap.
"I haven't met you before in my entire life, and here you are, going on about my heart." I said, "What reason do I have to believe you?"
His smile cracked wider, "You haven't gotten your memories back, have you? The effect was supposed to wear out after 7 years but I guess you're still unaware."
"What..?"
He then reached into his pocket and took out a photo. "Don't you remember this woman?"
When my eyes focused on the photo, I was taken aback. It was the woman from my dreams.
All of a sudden, my head began throbbing. I stumbled backwards and leaned against the wall for support. A jumble of memories began flashing across my mind.
"Aghh.." My head throbbed louder and louder as scenes rippled and flashed in my mind. Several happy moments with the woman flashed across my mind. My dad was always there standing beside her in most of these memories I was seeing, which confused me even more.
"Wh-Who..is she..?" I clutched my head in pain.
"You still don't get it?" He laughed, "She's your mother."
