Diana Marchand's POV
I was showering under the shower after I felt like shit. I have been running when I was eavesdropping on my dad's conversation with the Alpha, Caleb's father. They stated that I have been promised to him as his bride.
I smiled bitterly at that notion.
I thought I was done being their pawn when they stated that I have to be respectful and looking pretty. They wanted a submissive Luna. But I have my idea of being a Luna. And I'm still waiting for my mate to come.
I don't think that I wanted to be with Caleb more than he wanted to be with me.
Sure, he's my brother's, Xavier, best friend but I don't want to be his wife. I wanted to be more than that. I don't want to stick here and just be the breeding mare that Caleb wanted to keep his heir in check.
I sighed as I was learning too fast for my good.
I have to get out of here before they can claim me. I will have to be a rogue if I wanted to be myself. I will not let the pack, Shadow Pack, dictated me what to be in the future. I can choose my destiny, thank you very much.
I sighed one more time before I was turning off the faucet as I will be running away from here tonight and only one person can help me with this. Only he can help me to get out of the island in safety.
But first, time to go to the Folk Festival.
I was wandering around as I saw that people were gathering around here, tourists, and the locals, but the reason why the locals were having this was for the werewolves to find their mates. It was not an uncommon practice for us to be hiding in plain sight and find the One here.
"I thought this might look good on you," Samantha, my best friend said, as she was showing me a sundress of green color. I don't know that I hate green before but now I do. I waved my hands dismissively.
"We're not here to shop, Sam, we're here to hunt for our mates," I said as I was sniffing the air, doing it discreetly. The tourists did not know that werewolves existed. Only they know the legend of such monsters existed which was why they visiting the island.
And of course because of the cheap tourism.
I sighed as I was looking around. I have to find someone that will be my mate in the future or I might be ended up being held up by Caleb. I shivered at that thought and it was not a good sign.
"Can you identify your mate? I mean, how does one know that he is the one? I cannot believe that I was being dragged by you here," Sam complained as I was grimacing at her.
"Can you just for once say that you're happy to be here with me? Not that I don't appreciate your honesty, I just need your support right now," I said before Sam sighed and held up her hands in surrender.
"Fine, whatever," she said before she was picking up something. I don't know what but she was looking around before she was frowning.
"What is it?" I asked her before she was turning to look at me. She smiled as she shook her head.
"Nothing, false alarm. I thought I smell…" she trailed off before I saw Caleb and my brother were talking and walking around the festival. I hate to do this but I don't want to be around him when it was clear that the wedding was on. It has been decided years ago and right now, Xavier was hoping to mend my relationship with Caleb.
Only that I don't want to.
"Shit!" I said before I grabbed Sam and we were running off from the public.
"Where are we going?" She asked as I was running into the bushes and hid. I don't want to be seen with Caleb in public and gave the wrong impression. I need to think and by thinking I mean hiding.
"Why are we here? And why do I have to come with you?" Sam whined before I was shifting in the bushes, trying to mask our presence that I don't doubt my brother can detect. She sighed before she was sitting on the ground. I looked at Sam as I was arching my eyebrow.
"What are you doing?"
"Since you were so adamant to run away from your 'fiancé' I might as well sit on the ground," she said as I sighed. I was rubbing my nose bridge before I told her the good news.
"You know what, Sam, I'm sorry. I have been very selfish and I was not thinking straight. I should have not done that since you must be excited to find your mate as well. You can go now, I will just wait here until it was time to go home," I said as I was smiling at her. She was eyeing me up and down.
"Are you sure you be okay?" She asked as she was getting to her feet. I smiled at her.
"Of course, why shouldn't I?" I said as I was gripping her hands. She smiled before she kissed my cheeks.
"I love you, I do. But now it's time for me to find my love," she said as she got out of our hiding spot and I was looking at her retreating figure. I sighed.
"And I will be here, not wanting to know if I ever find the one or not," I said before something was moving behind me. I turned to look around and it was the biggest luck of my life.
I was looking into the greenest eyes that I ever saw, clashing with my grey ones before he growled.
"Mine," he said before my breath caught in my throat. It was none other than the person that I was supposed to ask my help from but instead, he was my mate.
Arthur Adamos, the Gamma of the Shadow Pack.
Arthur Adamos' POV
"Seriously, I told you, this guy is insane," my friend, Damien, the Delta of the pack was telling some of my stories to the youngsters. Not my great story, no, it was my most embarrassing stories that I only stated to him and he was using it to make some examples to the youth to follow the order.
Then I caught the whiff of it.
It was faint but I know it's her. My wolf purred at the thought as I was scanning the crowd. I don't know who it belonged to but I know she was my destined mate. I cannot believe it.
It has been 25 years that I was waiting for her as I was traveling Europe in search of her. It was not that this island was not my home but my father was a merchant and we have to travel to expand his empire.
When he died last month, we just come back and settled within my mother's pack after we were done with our papers and settling the properties of my father's.
"Arthur, do you even listening?" Damien asked me as I was turning to look at them. I smiled at them before I told them to go on without me.
I was lurking around the shadows as I'm always comfortable with it. It gave me a sense of security and now that I was the Gamma of the pack, the trainer of the pack warriors, I cannot let anything happened to me. I must be prepared for everything.
I sniffed again and it was stronger. I crept along with the bushes where I saw two women who were talking before one left. I did not smell her but the one that stayed. It was strong and my wolf purred at it.
"Mine," I growled as I stepped out and I looked at the woman. It was Diana, Alpha's fiancé.
