Chapter 1

James Robertson happily drove his car back to his house on Lakeshore street Toronto, Canada. Upon arriving in front of their house, he rushed going inside, apparently with good news. As he enters the house, he caught up with his wife named Lucy, who was cooking for dinner.

"Honey I'm home! I have a surprised!" James said cheerfully as he come in the kitchen.

"You're here, what good news is it Honey?" Asked Lucy while slicing vegetables.

"We're going on vacation overseas this summer!" James said happily.

"Oh really?" She paused for a while when she heard the good news.

"Where is it honey?"

"In Egypt!" James exclaimed.

"Egypt?"

"Yes, at the castle house!"

"Really? But always fully booked there right?" she wondered.

"Yeah, but this time I got a slot, finally!"

"What a good news honey, we want to go there for a long time, alas, we will go there!" Lucy exclaimed with excitement.

"Our kids will love this!"

"I'm sure!"

"The castle house was exclusive only for a family or a group of friends, so I called my brother Allen to join us with his family," James said.

"Are they coming?"

"Of course, he was surprised when I said that I got a slot in the castle house!"

"That's good!"

"Well, I'll go up to the room and change clothes." James said as he climb the stairs.

"Thank's for the good news Hon, I think Haley will love it!" Lucy called out.

James goes up to the room, and suddenly, their daughter came in, her name is Haley, she is about 20 years old, she has a beautiful face, but she is handicapped. Her left leg was smaller than the other one, she got an accident when she was 8 years old. She can walk even without crutches, but she walks like a lame duck, so she often bullied in school.

"I'm home mom, what's our dinner?" Haley asked while opening the refrigerator to get some water.

"Steak and veggie salad sweetie, anyway your brother's new girlfriend will join us tonight,"

"Okay mom, I'm going now to my room," Haley said softly.

"Why you look so sad? What is wrong?"

"Umh, I'm not feeling well,"

"Oh, take a rest and drink medicine, by the way, you know what? we're going on a vacation by next week!" Lucy said excitedly. But Haley wasn't interested.

"Oh yeah?" Haley simply said then she continued walking towards the stairs.

"Don't you even wanna ask where we go?" Lucy nodded.

Then Haley paused and looked at her mother. "Okay, where are we going mom?"

"In Egypt, have you heard about the castle house?"

"Castle house? Yeah but it always fully booked right?" She nodded.

"I know, It's been a long time since we wanted to be there, but finally we can go,"

"Okay then," Haley said with a slight smile and indicated in her room upstairs, but Lucy still noticed her sadness.

"Aren't you happy that we're going there?"

"I'm happy," Haley said softly and went up to her room. Haley is not interested in going anywhere, because of her disability.

As she entered her room she humbled herself through the window, looking far away but not seeing anything. Suddenly she remembered something, she hurried to the trouser cabinet, and she was looking for a pendant.

"Where did I put it? I just hid it here," she sighed as she looked for her pendant in the drawers, but couldn't find it. Then after a while, her phone was ringing. It's her friend Macy.

"Hello?"

"Hello! This is Macy," said the voice from the other line.

"Oh, Macy what's up?"

"Haley, is it true, that you broke up with Ethan?" Macy said referring to Haley's boyfriend.

Haley laid in bed and talked to her friend.

"Yeah, we broke up, he just tricked me, he cheated on me, he wants me because of his project in school, I am the one who made it for him. When he passed the project on time, he left me. I saw him earlier with the other girl," Haley said frustratingly.

"He is really a bad guy!"

"But it doesn't matter anymore, I don't love him that much, anyway we were going to have a family vacation in Egypt, I can spend my time with my family and maybe have fun,"

"Oh that's good for you,"

"But I might not be happy I guess,"

"Just enjoy yourself, and forget him okay?"

"I can easily forget Ethan, but no matter where I go I don't feel happy, my life's so boring,"

"Haley, you will find someone for you,"

"With this being a lame? No one would have liked me Macy, I was used to being alone for life," Haley said sadly.

"Hey, cheer up girl, be happy, you were going to Egypt!" Macy said enthusiastically.

"I don't know Macy, see you at the last day of our classes then,"

After she hung up the phone, she felt sadness within her, she just ignored her feelings and continued the search. But still, she couldn't find it. She lay in her bed and remembers the day how she got her missing pendant, she recalls when she was 9 years old.

FLASHBACK

Haley and her family went to amusement park on their holiday. As they enjoyed, Haley noticed a young magician inviting children to come in inside his big tent like seeing in the circus. She was attracted to get inside.

"Come and join me!" called out the young magician while standing at the entrance of the tent.

"You want to see magic? come in!" He said continously.

The children around were attracted by the magician, so they approached him with their parents. The magician told them to fall in line at the booth where to buy a ticket, so they could enter. Haley saw some children lining up in the ticket booth. "Dad! I want to go there!" Haley said eagerly. "Okay dear, lets buy a ticket," James said.

When they came in, there were many children with parents sitting in the audiences, they sat down in the middle. After a few moments, the magic show begun. The Magician shows some magic tricks and the children was astounded while watching him. After doing some magic tricks, the young magician told them that there will be a game.

"For all children out there, we will go to play a game! The winner will receive a nice price!" the magician said happily, and he showed the big stuffed toy. The children were excited when they saw it. And they raised their hands.

"Haley, join them," said James.

"No dad, I don't want to,"

"You might win a stuffed toy," her brother Kyle said.

"No!" Haley said iritately.

"Let it go, if Haley doesn't want to," Lucy said, knowing she was just ashamed of her disability. After a while, the magician said something that Haley got interested.

"I have another prize for you!" he said and showed them a necklace with amulet pendant.

"This pendant is from Egypt, and I will give it to the winner of the game!"

Haley observed the amulet pendant held by the magician, and she felt something strange. And as the magician chooses a player.

"I need one more kid!" Said the magician aloud.

Her family was surprised when Haley suddenly raises her hand.

"Me!" Haley said loudly. The magician heard her voice then he gazed at her.

"That girl in a red dress, come up here!" Said the magician and Haley immediately went up the stage and ignored even she can't walk properly.

"Okay kids! Our game is to open these boxes by using a key, all you have to do is to get the right key and open the right box," he said while pointing some locked boxes in the top of the table. "One of these boxes are contains the magic amulet pendant and the stuffed toy, whoever opens the right box will win! Are you ready?"

Magician exclaimed enthusiastically. "Yes we are!" The kids said cheerfully.

Then the game begin. "Ready get set go!" The magician ordered. The children came forward to retrieve the key to the magician and each of them opened the box.

A few minutes later, Haley was surprised when she opened the box containing the stuffed toy and the amulet pendant. Haley was so happy when she has won. "What is your name?!" The young magician asked. "My name is Haley Robertson,"

"Congratulations, you are the winner! Here's your prize little girl!" the magician smiled, then gave Haley the big stuffed toy and the amulet pendant.

when she held the pendant, she felt strange.

Some children cried because they also want the amulet pendant. "Kids, don't cry anymore, I still have a lot of amulet pendants!" said the magician, and he showed them to the kids. The kids were all excited to have it, the magician then starts another game. But Haley's winning pendant was different from the other.

After the magic show, they walk in the theme park, Haley was holding the amulet and can't stop gazing at it, her mother Lucy holds the big stuffed toy.

"Very good Haley, this stuffed toy is so cute!" Her mother said happily.

"But mom, I prefer this pendant, what do these symbols mean, hmn?"

"Well, why don't you borrow some books about Egypt in the library?" Kyle adviced.

"Not a good idea, Haley don't waste your time in that thing, it's just a toy okay?"

"But mom, the magician says there's a magic here,"

"Sweetie, there is no such a magic pendant, even if that came from Egypt," Lucy said.

"Yeah, its just for fun anyway," James chimed in. Then Haley suddenly ran.

"Haley, where are you going?" James called out.

"I just wanna ask something to the magician dad!" Haley said as she ran back to the tent. James tried to follow her but Lucy stop him.

"Let her go, she will come back soon,"

They waited for Haley, a few minutes later she came back.

"Well, what did you ask from Magician?" Kyle asked.

"I asked him where he got this,"

"So what he had said?"

"He said, he just picked up this in the desert while in vacation in Egypt, but he has a brand new one so he wants this to give away, he said I can only buy like this in Egypt,"

"Oh, that's old, well lets buy a new one when we get in Egypt!" Kyle said.

"Well, just keep it my dear, at least you won it," Lucy said.

Haley kept it until now.

Flashback End

When Haley remembered those days, she realized that it was just a toy pendant, but she is wondering why she was so interested in finding it.

Haley hadn't even seen the pendant for a few days, she doesn't know where it is, after a while, someone knocked on her door. It was her mom Lucy.

"Sweetie, come down and let's eat, your brother is here with her new girlfriend, let's meet her, go down now,"

"Okay mom I'm coming!"

Lucy serves at the dining table, and she was assisted by Kyle's new girlfriend named Jazzy. "Jazzy, what's your parents work?"

"My mommy is in real state then my dad is a Doctor,"

"Hmm that's nice!" Lucy smiled. They had fun talking, Kyle came over and kissed Jazzy. "Sweetheart, I'm excited to be with you on our family vacation,"

"Me too Kyle, your parents are nice, anyway where is your younger sister?"

Soon, Haley is going down the stairs and Kyle introduces her to Jazzy. "Hi! I'm Jazzy, nice to meet you!"

"I'm Haley, nice to meet you too!"

They had a great time at dinner, and they were talking about their upcoming vacation. "I'm sure we will enjoy our vacation!" said James looks so excited. "It will be fun!" Lucy said.

Haley just eating quietly and didn't say anything. She is still thinking about her pendant. After they had dinner, Haley helped her mother cleaned the table. After that, she goes up to her room and continues to look for the pendant, but she can't still find it.

Lucy enters her room, and she saw her busy finding something. "Haley, are you okay? What are you looking there?"

"I'm fine mom, I'm just looking for the pendant that I won at the magic show before, do you remember the magician who gave me?"

Lucy thought a little.

"Oh yeah, but baby, it was a long time ago, do you still have it? maybe it's gone?"

"I just put it here,"

"Why are you looking for it? What are you going to do with it?"

"The magician said that it came from Egypt, and exactly we were going there, so I just want to bring it,"

"But why?"

"Maybe some people knew the meaning of the symbols etched in the pendant?"

"What, is that all? Forget it sweetie. Anyway you should go to bed early and don't forget to take your vitamins okay?"

"Yes mom,"

Haley lay on the bed and thought that her mother was right, she thought as if she was like a child seeking for a toy, she shrugged her shoulder and thinking never sought them

again. Afterwards, she came down to drink water. While coming down the stairs, she saw Kyle and Jazzy sitting in the couch and kissing each other.

"Ahem!!" Haley sighed, when the two heard her, they stopped what they were doing. "Haley, why are you still awake?" he said steadily, he was embarrased when Haley caught them kissing.

"I'm just going to drink water." She said and goes to the kitchen.

"Make it faster and go back to your room!" He scoffed.

As soon as Haley turned around, Jazzy stared at her.

"Kyle, what had happened to her?"

"When Haley was just 8 years old, she had an accident,"

"Oh really? I'm pity on her, but she is very beautiful," Jazzy said feel sorry.

When Haley returned to her room she had left her mind about the pendant, and she had fallen asleep.

The next day, James's brother Allen arrived with his wife and kids. He has a daughter same as Haley's age, her name is Chloe, and the guy is Oliver, same age also like Kyle. They brought some pizzas. They had fun together at dining area.

"James, I can't believe when you said that you got a slot at the Castle house!" Said his brother Allen excitedly. "Yeah, me too was surprised when the agency told me that I got a slot, we're totally reserved!"

"Yes, we are finally going to Egypt!" Allen exclaimed with gladness.

Next day, it was the last day of Haley at her school for summer vacation. While Haley and Macy are walking to the campus, they saw Haley's ex named Ethan with his new girlfriend, they holding their hands with each other. Then they saw Haley, the girl approaches. "You are Haley right?" she scoffed and looked at her from head to foot.

"What did Ethan like about you?" she smirked. Later on, the students gathered around her, and they start to teased her.

"Poor thing, she's a lame, look at her!" They said over and over again.

Haley just lowered her head, she was tired of being ridiculed by her schoolmates.

"Stop it! She doesn't do you any harm!" Macy defended her.

"Your lame friend is very ambitious! Do you think Ethan will like her? She is a lame and ugly!" Said the girlfriend of Ethan.

Ethan just laughed while her girlfriend teasing Haley.

"Come on Haley!" Macy said and she tapped Haley's shoulder.

"Don't mind them!"

"I'm OK Macy,"

"Its holiday anyway! We can't see their faces at the moment," Macy said and pulled Haley away from them.
