The man in black ascended to the third floor. He glanced at the living room before walking to the first room and twisting the doorknob.
The door wouldn't open; it was locked.
The man in black stepped back two paces and launched a kick at the door. After two kicks, he broke it open and walked inside. He was in the room for less than ten seconds before he knew the target wasn't there.
The man in black quickened his pace, heading for the second room, which was also locked.
On the surface, kicking down doors seemed to take little time, making the target's actions appear superfluous. But the man in black knew this was a highly effective tactic. If it took three seconds to kick down one door, then twenty doors would require a full minute. For an assassin, a minute was a very long time. Moreover, kicking down doors consumed a great deal of his stamina.
With two flying kicks, he broke open the door.
