It's not that bad...

The new Keiran Lawley had to admit that being reincarnated had its perks.

The boy lived in a mansion, had domestics that tended to his every needs and more money than he could have ever squander off.

Even at the bottom of the noble food chain with a Baron title, his family had enough riches to make his old life pale in comparison.

Too bad there was only one smudge on the beautiful painting.

As he was currently inspecting his new body in the full-length mirror of his bedroom, it was glaringly evident that he had to deal with a new fatality.

Before dying, he had been a young girl that had lived nearly 18 years as a single woman, her only relationship experience coming from dating games and an unhealthy tendency to obsess over 2D characters.

But she had been determined to change her unfortunate ways and reform herself near the end, with the objective of striking a boyfriend as soon as she entered college.

How frustrating that she had to die before reaching her goal…

The reincarnated soul groaned.

Was she doomed to eternal single-hood even in her second life?

She felt like crying ugly tears.

How unfair!

As Kieran pitifully sulked in a corner of her new bedroom, gloomily drawing shapes on the carpet with her finger, the door suddenly burst open revealing a little boy no older than six years old, with earthy green hair and the same signature pair of eyes that all Lawley offsprings seemed to possess.

The little green creature looked around the room before spotting Kieran in the corner and rushing towards him.

"Big Bro Kieran! Let's practice with swords today!" the little boy was happily jumping in the air and swinging a wooden sword in his face.

Then his clone, in the form of a cute little girl with pigtails holding a frilly dress in her hands, followed suit.

"No way! Brother is playing dress up with me today!" she yanked her twin brother from the back of his collar and stood her ground in front of Kieran, proudly showing off a sparkly pink dress in his face.

Ah.

How could the soul forget that her host had siblings in this new life?

Very noisy and energetic younger siblings.

The twins, Siera and Saul Lawley, kept bickering around him, each tugging their older brother from one arm, left and right, until Kieran could swear his limbs were going to detach at any given second.

"Enough!" the oldest sibling let out in a booming voice.

Both balls of energetic human flesh froze in place, sporting a guilty look on their faces.

"I can't play with you guys today. My friend invited me over for the afternoon, so play with each other for once." Kieran scolded.

Both kids cutely puffed up their cheeks in annoyance and Kieran had to restrain himself from pulling on them.

"No way I don't want to!"

"Please train with me big bro! Siera can't even swing a sword properly!"

"This idiot looks weird in a dress!" the little girl clapped back.

"Of course, I would look bad in a dress! I'm a boy!" her twin replied.

"Big brother Kieran looks good in a dress! You're just too ugly!" she remarked in disgust.

"What did you say ?!" he yelled back offended.

"Ugly ! Ugly ! Ugly !"

"Say it again and I'll cut your pigtails off !"

"You wouldn't dare you pigface-…"

"QUIET!"

Both kids stopped tugging at each other's clothes and hair and were now quietly glaring at each other.

Kieran sighed.

What had he done to get his ears abused on such a fine morning?

And how come these kids liked him so much?

He had only kept them company a few times after waking up in this new body and it was enough for both of them to literally stick to him like glue.

It left him wondering if the previous owner of Kieran's body used to ignore the duo for them to jump on him in excitement at the slightest show of attention.

"Like I said, I am busy today. Marcus and I are spending the day together. And before you ask : No, you may not come along." The twins' faces fell in disappointment. "I clearly remember some incident involving a ball, a broken vase and a very angry butler, the last time you two set foot in the Valian residence." Kieran scolded with a raised finger.

There was a moment of guilty silence, before both pointed at each other, accusingly.

"It was his/her fault!" they shouted at the exact same time.

Typical of the twin devils.

Kieran wanted to laugh but contained himself just enough not to break character.

"No. You guys are both to blame for that.". He sighed. "And I don't even understand why you insist on coming with me when you don't even like visiting the Valian Manor in the first place!" he said with a frustrated tone.

"But you don't understand big brother!" Saul complained.

"He's stealing you away from us!" whined Siera.

Kieran looked puzzled.

"Who? Marcus? What nonsense are you two spouting?" he chuckled. "Marcus has been nothing but courteous towards you guys but you keep baring your teeth at him for no reason." He pointed out.

The twins pouted.

"Big bro, you're too naïve! "

"So defenceless! I'm sure you'll get gobbled up ! "

"You're not careful enough."

"We're here to protect you!" the last sentence had been said in sync, as if practiced over a hundred times.

Kieran groaned.

These twins were too overprotective.

"Now, now stop pestering me about Marcus. If I'm not mistaken, isn't it almost time for your history lessons?"

As if on cue, Madam Martin, the twins' instructor and a very stern and strict woman barged into the room and dragged away the misfits back into the library (from which they had previously escaped from), but not without much crying and begging on their parts.

Seriously…they were acting as if they were being sentenced to death or something…

And it wasn't even funny that the reincarnated soul would definitely know from experience.

After getting dressed to go out, Kieran happily walked out of the Lawley Manor and headed towards their family's carriage to go visit his dear friend.

In the four weeks that had followed her awakening in this new world, the reincarnated soul had made various discoveries, mainly regarding her new surroundings and even about the previous owner of her new body.

As she soon discovered, Kieran Lawley had apparently been of very frail constitution, making him particularly vulnerable to very harsh flu episodes, vicious fevers and faintings at the littlest effort. The child had lived a very sheltered life in the Lawley residence, rarely stepping out of his bedroom and being denied from attendance in the Royal Academy that all noble children attended.

But what the child lacked in health, he compensated with a headstrong attitude, overflowing mischief and cunnings, always brewing new pranks and jokes to play on the servants and his family (if the fearful and apprehensive eyes of the families' employees on her and how they constantly checked their back as she passed by them, could be any clue).

But lately his condition had been so bad that even his favorite hobby had to be put on hold as the countless near-death incidents and somehow miraculous semi-recoveries accumulated and never failed to completely baffle the Lawley family's physicians who never understood how such a frail child could still hold on so strongly to life, against all odds.

But nothing could have prepared the baron's family for the shocker that came with the announcement of a total recovery during one of the weekly checkups the child had to go through for nearly all his life.

The whole family had been overjoyed and everyone started pestering the boy for things, the twins for incessant plays, the baroness for shopping trips (pretexting a sudden growth spurt even though Kieran was still the same pipsqueak as two weeks ago) and the baron for horse-riding lessons he insisted on giving out himself every other day. Kieran Lawley was finally healthy.

That was one thing the reincarnated soul failed to completely comprehend. Had her ticket to second life come with a boost of some kind? A complete health-reset made to make her stay as effortless as possible, while the previous Kieran, a deviant soul like hers, had to go through a forceful end of contract, as his life time-limit stipulated.

She couldn't even begin to imagine the complaint such a headstrong character would be filling at that exact moment in the otherworld and if he, like herself would have been offered some sort of (unwanted) compensation.

She wished him good luck in taking his case to court and wished for him to wipe the floor with those incompetent otherworld staff and strip them of all their fortune.

As the soul contemplated her new life and the worrying lack of wi-fi in this medieval-like world, she gazed out of the window of the carriage as the scenery of the fiefdom her new family manor passing by in front of her eyes.

Gender put aside, she guessed she could at least make a decent life for herself out here.
