Special Assignment

It was nearing the middle of February when President Kate called Olivia and Iris into her office. "Got a special investigation for you two. Usually, I prefer to assign four to an investigation, but Iris, Olivia's mentioned you're a hell of an investigator and can handle yourself solo, so I'd like to save on two students here and put you two on this by yourselves."

Iris smiled to Olivia. "Sounds good."

"There's been another host serial killer going around in Penrose. Police there were talking about it with me about a week ago, but haven't responded since... and before you ask, this isn't another case of a perception Revenant. It's partially my fault that I hadn't spoken to the police more closely, and for that, well -- I'd apologize, but you're students: it won't traumatize you."

That was about as close to an apology as Kate could get, Iris noticed. "I appreciate you helping us out on it, though."

"It's what a president's for. Now, back to the investigation I was mentioning: from what the police have told me, there's been tremendous public pressure on them to capture this host. Whoever it is, they take young girls from their families and kill them."

"You want us to capture them alive?"

"No. It isn't a student's job to care what civilians believe or not. … Still, they might appreciate more proof than usual."

"I'm up for killing him." said Olivia. "Sick fuck."

"You and Iris can negotiate those terms of murder on your own. Dismissed."

Iris & Olivia left to pack their usual travel bag (which Iris always reverted into existence as needed) and went out to Iris's truck. Driving was fast with Kairos; she cruised at 500mph and had the reaction speed of double that if allowed to focus.
