Charge

Valaisian footmen scramble to form ranks, horseman relay orders, footmen did what they could to form a defensive line but to no avail as the Asturian horsemen mow them down like blade through grass, the rest scattered and pick of with ease, bodies impaled with lance, head crushed by maces and Warhammers, limbs severed by blades.

Eris came in with the second line from the left side of the first squad, and cut down the fleeing Valaisian soldier that survived the first wave. The princess pick her targets carefully, not bothered with the common footmen rather look for the strong fighter and squad leaders to break the enemy's effectiveness to regroup. She saw a man more heavily armored then the rest of the other men. She charges at that man while he is distracted, rallying the troops. Eris swings her blade cutting the visor and revealing the face of the middle age man with graying hair and mustache.

Eris makes a turn again to try and kill the commander once more, but the experienced old commander drops his longsword and took a billhook from one of his fallen soldiers and his Eris with it. The hook of the blade latches to her armor and dragged her off from the horse dropping her to the ground with one of the other edge of the blade pointing at her neck saved only by her split second decision to catch the shaft and save her literal neck.

The tip of the billhook drew close to her neck and pokes her skin a bit. The commander pulls and tried to shake her hand and stab her neck but Eris redirected the billhook to the left shoulder with her left hand, her pauldron took most of the hit. She took a dagger from her hips and threw it at her attacker. The man notices and leans back. It scratches his forehead but his eyes are saved. Eris uses this opportunity to push the billhook away, rolled to the side and took whatever weapon that she glanced a bit.

She looked at the weapon that she took. It's a warhammer from a fallen soldier. The commander uses the reach of his weapon to keep Eris at bay. He constantly keeping her at the defensive, trying to stab and hook her armor gaps. She finally gets the opportunity to get closer after several parries, grabs the shaft and splits the billhook with her war hammer. Before Eris can swing her war hammer at the commander, the man drops the shaft and lunges at Eris, pinning her to the ground with dagger drawn. Eris holds the Valaisian commander's dagger with both hands, but the entire weight of the man's body gives him an advantage as the dagger drew closer to Eris's right eye.

Her hands can no longer hold the dagger from plunging, luckily she manages to roll to the left slightly while the dagger sinks deep into the ground. Eris folds her legs while still on the ground and kicks him away, releasing the dagger and away from Eris. The princess's armor isn't as heavy as the commanders so she has a better mobility and speed recovering from the prone position. Eris pulls the dagger from the ground and lands it at the neck of the commander while he's mid recovering from his fall. Crimson waterfall, painted metal and grass alike into its color. The man's grip grows weaker the longer the blade stays. Until at last, the struggling ends.

Eris let go of the blade and sat down, catching her breath and watches as her man cheered at the stunning success of their plan and the last Valaisian soldier fell on the field. She felt relieved, looks at the man's face one more. The middle aged commander had fought well and his army would have made it if it weren't for Eris anticipating this passage being used. Still, He fought bravely. Eris looks for his sword, noble's weapons tend to be more decorated and wasn't that hard to find as she searched near the place they fought. The sword was placed on his chest, close his eyes and give him his prayers.

"Princess…" Jonathan races to his lady's side dismounts his horse and rushes to Eris's side "are you hurt?" distress painted in his eyes despite his lack of expression.

"I'm fine" a gentle smile followed with a pat on the head to her beloved squire "thank you, Jonathan"

Despite being Her servant, Eris treats Jonathan like her own little brother. A son from a knight that serve the king, and now his son, serve his daughter.

"How was the mop up?" ask Eris

"A few held up in an abandoned farmhouse" Jonathan pointed to the direction of the location, which she can see the rest of his men gathers

"I'll look into it. Meanwhile, treat this man's body" only a man of high status can afford such equipment let alone given command. Even the well preserved body can be ransomed.

"Yes milady. Take my horse" Eris rode to help out with the last pockets of resistance. While Jonathan ordered the nearby soldier to assist him.

The squire looks at the fallen warrior in front of him. He wondered, if he had someone special back home. What are his regrets in life, his dreams and aspirations. He shook of those notions for now. The rules of war dictates that a noble's body must be given a proper treatment and returned if possible. Failing to do so will spark animosity with the noble families from other nations as well, that's the last thing anyone would ever wanted.

As he carried the Valaisian commander to be treated. He can't help but wonder, will his princess will be alright. Be he trust her enough. Just enough.
