The creatures converges towards them, hungry for human flesh and thirst for spilled blood. One of the creatures rushes from behind Eris and easily decapitated by her short sword while she flips a crossbow bolt from her quiver and loads it into her hand crossbow. The customized mechanism enable it to be pulled faster even and able to be operated with one hand. Just in time to shoot the other one that came from her left side.
Imelda had no trouble dispatching the two that came from the front as well, although a bit slower due to the nature of her equipment. She hit the one that came first with an uppercut shield bash, staggering him. The other creature behind leaps over his staggered friend and he too was dispatched quickly with a downward swing to the head with Imelda's warhammer that swings all the way and smash the torso of his friend. Another creature dead and the last one soon follows, head stomped by Imelda's metal boots and splattered on the sewer floor and turned to ash like the rest of them.
"Sense anymore?" ask Eris eagerly, waiting to kill more of these abominations.
"One left" as she said it, the sound of someone running away deeper into the sewer.
"Oi, stop" Eris tries to bypass Imelda but she was stopped by her
"Hold it princess. It could be a trap"
After holding Eris, Imelda took out her rosary and cut her finger a bit, painting the small metal object red, and whispered into it. Then, light glows from the rosary, its rays illuminates the darkness in front of them. Balls of light came out from the rosary and arrayed neatly in the ceilings showing them the way.
"That's convenient, why didn't you use it earlier?"
"You don't use the goddess's blessings without restraint. It is a gift for serving her"
"Riiight, If it works all the time then it will be the goddess serving you am I rite?"
"Correct, lucky don't need a miracle to notice that"
"That's right you don't…. Heeey!!"
Imelda leads the way, ignoring Eris rants until she too follows Imelda. The two of them walk through the lit tunnel, following the suspected mastermind. The trail of light needed on a metal door with several talismans and blood markings.
"Dark magics. Decent, but not good enough" she took out a vial of holy water and sprinkle it on to the door. The talismans and bloodmarkings burned. After removing the seal, she swung her warhammer hard at the door. The warhammer leaves a dent but the door still stands. She hits the door again for a few times and it fell on the third swing.
The door unhinged and slammed to the ground revealing a makeshift lab with several bookshelves, operating table and chemistry set.
"come on out. Surrender and I'll go easy on you" Imelda moves in carefully inside the dimly lit room followed by Eris who guarded her flank. They sweep the entire room looking for any dangerous object. The perpetrator is a small fry just tasting his first dark powers, or else this town will be quarantined and besieged.
"Found anything sis?" Eris flips through flesh and books casually
The both of them finally reaches the end of the room and saw several coffins. One of them is neatly closed unlike the others. Imelda pointed the coffin to Eris, she nods and gets closer.
"FIREBAAAALL!!!" Eris shouted and a person burst out from the coffin in fear only for his face to meet Imelda's fist. The man fell hard into the coffin pile and broke the wooden coffins. He pass out instantly
"I love the fireball trick. Works every time" boast Eris proudly
Both wasted no time in tying the robed man bounding hands and gagging its mouth to make sure he can't cast any spells. They sweep the room one more time to make sure that no other dangerous object left in the room and drag the man out by the leg.
"You want me to carry him?" offered Imelda
"Come on, I don't need you pandering me as well. That's Jonathan's job" pouts Eris with her free hand on her hips
"It's just common courtesy. I would gladly let you carry a horse for all I care" After hearing Imelda said those words, Eris drops the man's leg and stared at her "what?..."
All of the sudden, Eris hugged Imelda "UUUU… you reaaaly are my bestie" snuggle
"stop...hugging …. We're still underground here"
"Oh right sorry" lets go of Imelda and grabs the rogue wizard by the foot again "let's go then"
Eris casually walked while dragging the man like a sack of worthless trash back to the spot on which they descend. Imelda stopped a bit. Looking at the shadows as her light spell worn off. She couldn't shake the feeling that there is more than meets the eye on this case. But she won't venture deeper without proper backup. Whatever it is, I can wait. For now.
