Emily was always a kindred spirit, but today she truly looked the part. Her auburn hair flowing freely in the wind as her freckled face smiling without a care in the world. The burgundy sundress that Lily helped her chose this morning complemented the setting sun in the background rather nicely. Lily thought at this moment she looked like the heroine in a book. Free, wild, beautiful, and adventurous.
They were currently staying at a small inn located in the Appalachian mountains. They originally planned to leave a few days from now and head straight to the airport ,but while looking at flights an important detail that they missed previously came to mind.
"Will Lily be okay flying?" Angelica said. Her finger hovering over the buy button on the screen they were looking at. At her words her husband frowned. It had not occurred to the family that Lily's condition might not be suitable for flight. He couldn't believe this matter had flown over his head. It was rather lucky that they though of this before purchasing the plane tickets instead of later.
So he called the doctor. Preferring his words over the untrustworthy internet's. His ringing device happened to be the only sound in the room. It's sound bounced off of the walls in a sort of meleoncolony tone. Increasing the already sky rocketing pressure in the room. What pressure, you ask? Guilt, for not thinking of such an important thing earlier.
Apparently the sudden change in the room was too much for Lily, who until then was peacefully resting her head in Emily's lap. She woke up in a fit of coughing which knocked the family out of their thoughts as they rushed to her side.
Giving her cough medicine and patting her back in a regular routine they had often preformed when Lily was still living in the house before this. Lily was never exactly the healthiest person. To her, sickness was a niece or nephew that while not liked was always around.
After calming down she asked "what's happening now? Who are you calling?" reminding John, her father, of the still ringing phone in his hand. He looked at it once more as it stopped ringing and went to the doctors voicemail.
"Oh we just had to ask Mr. Jimmings if you would be okay to fly before buying plane tickets" he responded while hanging up on the voicemail.
To this Lily gave a small chuckle before asking "why didn't you just ask me? Mr. Jimmings rebriefed me on all the do's and don't's before we left."
Looking at his face she guessed his next line and responded to the unasked question ." I can not fly. The turbulence would be too rough on my body. The same goes with train and car rides over five hours. Boats ,however, are fine." She stated in a 'matter-of-fact' ly tone. The after math of her part time job as a public announcer for her college showing in her voice. So many words left her in a panting state. Her lungs could not hold as much air as they used to anymore.
She took slow breathes before adding on " Do not feel bad. You didn't know" .
And so that series of events had lead them to where they are now. In a small town four hours away from their house and three hours away from their destination.
"Look! There's a fair happening down there! Wanna go check it out!?" Emily said pointing wildly at the Ferris wheel and bright lights shining below. The colours bounced off of her smiling face and danced in the now night sky. While, Lily was originally planning to sleep as soon as she got here she figured she wouldn't able to sleep with all the neon lights anyways so she eagerly nodded her head.
And so after she took some medicine and the girls dolled themselves up just incase they meet a cute guy, they set out. Laughing the whole way.
