Chapter 51- Sick to ones stomach

"I knew that we were getting exponentially stronger but... this!?" , Garett surmised.

Coran and Berith both slowly tried to raised their heads, groaning in pain.

"Ugh..."

"Erg..."

Trevor and Samantha ran over to them.

"Hey! Whats wrong!? Why do you both look like you're about to die!? Stay with me!", Trevor shouted, clearly concerned.

Even if he preached about being seen as the villain, he still wanted to help others- particularly those who he had extended a hand to. He had grown an attachment to these two spiderlings the moment they agreed to become the slaves of the antiheroes, and was determined to show them that they made the right decision.

"Sorry... I just figured it out... It seems that I was releasing my magical energy... but I seem to have concealed it now. They should be fine... nobody is dead, but they might be traumatized....", Ashley explained.

Trevor helped a stumbling Coran up, and Samantha tried to help Berith up.

This was her chance to be looked upon as a kind and compassionate leader. Samantha was not about to give up this chance. Especially not towards these spiderlings who had willingly given themselves into her servitude.

She finally had a chance to impress others without having to rely on silly tricks or cheap smiles. All she had to do was care for those who had given themselves up completely for her sake.

She slowly lifted up Berith and leaned her on her chest, holding her up. She grazed one of Berith's arms, and to be honest was completely disgusted at having touched such a nasty limb... but now was not the time to be concerned about such things.

She had done things before that she didn't want to do in order to be loved, and she would do them again.

There was a reason why Samantha was so obsessed with being loved by the public- why she was so focused on maintaining her public image. Even if she was in this world, with Trevor and Garett and Ashley, who all seemed to be focused on looking like villains to others, Samantha longed to bask in the loving smiles of people who respected her as an untouchable idol.

She longed for the ability to watch others from afar as she shined in the form of a beam of radiance in a dark world. She longed for that elevated status she once held.

She longed for the ability to smirk as the other bitches gritted their teeth in jealousy, but couldn't say or do anything to her without being seen as a public enemy. She longed for the day where she would be able to spread rumors about someone who displeased her, and have that person's reputation destroyed and corrupted- never again to share the same spotlight as Samantha gleamed in.

As Berith was learning on Samantha, her sleeves drooping over the shoulders as she grabbed her, Samantha felt the hands of this spider for the first time through the sleeves.

They were not disgusting spider arms. They were soft and fleshy like human arms.

They were covered by the long sleeves, so Samantha and the others had assumed that they were the limbs of a spider, just like each of their other limbs, however upon feeling the hands, she felt a connection to Berith.

It was the warmth produced by human flesh.

Not only that, but on feeling this girl grabbing to her, Samantha was filled with the desire to protect this girl from harm.

She sensed a similarity to herself.

'This girl has been hated by others for who she was, and has been forced to become someone who she wasn't in order to defend herself. She had gone through hardship, psychological pain and torment... and had to resolve herself to live knowing that things would never be perfect.'

----

Berith had coldly made the decision to kill off her siblings before. Why did she not hesitate when her brother was so reluctant to do so?

It was because Berith had realized the truth of her situation far before her brother had, and made the mental decision to protect him from the troubles they would go through.

She knew quickly that her mother looked at them as abominations, as mutants, even from a young age.

She did not want her brother to live in fear of the monsters around them, and so even though Berith was a small and fragile girl, she had often secretly gone with her mother and helped to hunt prey in order to prove that she was useful- that her mother should keep them around a little longer.

She had never told her brother this, but she did everything she could to make her mother feel that she was useful.

She originally felt bad for the prey that she killed with her own 2 hands, but eventually she lost the sympathy. Even so, she was determined on sparing her brother from this fate, and never wanted him to kill anything. She didn't want him to become like her.

But this day had came where her brother would be forced to kill.

Berith had accepted this, and knew that her brother had grown up.

That was why she told him to kill their siblings.

He needed to learn to kill if they were to survive. As much as Berith wanted to protect him, she couldn't keep him in the dark about the harshness of reality forever.

Berith was ready to sell her soul to the devil if it meant surviving the purge, but it turned out that that was exactly what had happened.

These demons had extended an arm to her, and without hesitation she grabbed onto it, hoping to live another day wit the assistance of these demons so that one day she could take her revenge on this world.... even if it meant becoming cursed and enslaved to these demons as a result.

But now, both her and her brother were completely terrorized and confused.

She felt like she was going to throw up. Her head was dizzy, and she could feel an unfathomable amount of magical power coming from the spirit girl.

No, unfathomable didn't even begin to describe it.

She had thought that her new master's were powerful when she witnessed them before. Overwhelmingly so. But the aura that she had felt just now from the ghost girl made what she felt before to seem as if it was all just a big lie.

This girl was not just ultimately powerful. No. She was far beyond that.

She was something which should not even exist. A being that could destroy the entire planet with the flick of a single finger if she wished to.

That was how much energy this creature contained.

Terror couldn't even begin to describe what Berith was feeling. It was a magnitude so great that her very soul was shaken to the core.

She couldn't bear it.

She threw up.

-----

Samantha was caring for this girl, and felt a link to her.

She could feel that they were similar.

That this girl had become someone who she didn't wish to become, in order to survive.

However, the sympathy that Samantha felt for this child was soon washed away as Berith threw up all over Samantha's chest.

"BLEGH!!!"

Samantha was petrified at the fact that she had just been thrown up on, and filled with anger, but she calmed herself.

'Now is not the time to be angry with this girl... I have to comfort her so that she will love me...'

Samantha gritted her teeth, and flashed a toothy smile with a crooked face, seemingly extremely annoyed at the fact that that she had been thrown up on, but trying her best to control her emotions.

Her eyes twitched with disgust but she tried to force some kind words out as she looked with horror on her puke covered gown.

"The- ugh... There's no need to worry! Even if she may be a little scary, our comrade will never hurt you two... so long as you remain loyal to us, on the contrary, we will defend you with everything we have!"

Samantha tried her best to comfort the spider girl, but upon seeing the yellow chunks on her chest, she felt sick to her stomach as well.

She was reminded of a scene from her childhood that she really didn't want to remember.
