Chapter 13: A Deal with the Devil

Damien leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled, watching me like I was the most fascinating thing in the room.

"You want to ruin them," he repeated, amusement flickering in his eyes. "Now that's something I didn't expect."

I shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "Then you're not as perceptive as you think."

He chuckled, but there was a sharpness behind it.

"And what exactly did Liam and Serena do to earn your wrath, hmm? Break your heart? Steal your fortune?"

I smiled, slow and deliberate. "Some wounds don't bleed, Damien. But they still kill you in the end."

His expression shifted—just slightly. Just enough for me to know I had his attention.

He picked up his glass again, swirling the whiskey before taking a sip.

"I like you, Celeste," he admitted. "But I don't trust you."

"Good," I said, tilting my head. "Trust is dangerous. I'd rather you be cautious."

He smirked. "And yet, you expect me to help you?"

"I expect you to see the opportunity," I corrected. "You don't like Liam. I know that much. He's not your enemy, but he's certainly not your friend. And Serena?" I let out a quiet laugh. "She's just another pawn in your family's game, isn't she?"

Damien's fingers tapped against the glass.

Silence stretched between us. Heavy. Charged.

Then he sighed, setting his drink down. "You're playing a dangerous game, Celeste. If you're not careful, you'll be the one left bleeding."

I leaned closer, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Not if I strike first."

Something dark and unreadable flickered in his gaze.

Then, to my surprise, Damien grinned. "Alright, Vixen. Let's see if you're as ruthless as you claim."

I had him.

The devil himself had just shaken my hand.
