The sun was at its peak and anyone who cares for their skin will definitely stay out of it, yet that doesn't seem to be a concern to these two desperate women.
In a certain part of the town, Melanie was having her baby strapped to her body with a baby shawl shielding him from the sun, but Mel was exposed to it.
She was perspiring all over, looking from one street to the other, same as malls and other working places to see if there's any board or banner to show that workers are needed.
Amy also took another route, perspiring all over and stopping from shops to shop.
"I'm here to confirm if you're still in need of workers? I recalled seeing a notice board here last week." Amy said to a lady coming out of a restaurant.
"Oh yeah! We took it away after getting the workers needed, but I think we could use a cleaner. Are you the one interested in the job?" The lady asked and Amy was hesitant.
Cleaning is a job and she knew her friend wouldn't mind, as long as she earns from it, but she's worried she won't be able to cope.
She won't want to leave her son with anyone while working and people might start picking on her.
Perhaps….
"Hum… actually, it's a friend of mine that needs the job. Can I ask if it's possible to work here while bringing a kid along?" She asked and the lady gave her the 'you're not serious' look.
"I'm sorry, but that isn't allowed here. If you will excuse me." She said and walked away.
Amy wasn't so shocked by the response.
Just like how they manage to secure the job she just lost, they will find another.
With that, she began walking up and down again, switching from taking a cab to trekking.
The same thing was happening at Mel's side.
"I promise to work hard. My baby doesn't cry unnecessarily. You can cut my pay"
"You have no right to advise me to take my baby to day-care."
"Excuse me, but you can't call my son trouble."
"Madam, I will try to make sure raising him doesn't affect my work. I will surpass your expectations."
"Please, at least let me try."
Those were examples of Mel's word exchange at places she visited.
Opportunities are available, but they can't allow her to bring a baby along.
Just like that, the day went by and nothing positive came out of their hectic day.
They both had a bottle of table water with them and happened to come home at the same time.
They were perspiring all over and looking so exhausted.
They both shook their heads at each and that already explained how the day went.
Complete failure.
Amy would have helped her with the child, but she had to work as well and even if she did, it will still lead to trouble because they will claim she couldn't look after the child anymore and entrusting him to people.
They will try to take him away.
She was in a very tight spot.
They got inside and laid flat on the chair.
Another friend might nag but Amy chuckled. "That was a long day. I have mapped a few places to visit tomorrow." She said and Mel hummed as a response.
She felt bad for stressing her friend but they've come way back to act emotional over it. They are like sisters.
"How's Collins?" Amy asked.
"He slept all day. Still recovering from his sickness. I need to call his doctor over tonight." She said.
"Hope the hotness subsided?" Amy asked, but had already stood up and walked towards her.
She placed her hand to the little boy's forehead to feel his temperature but once her hand mistakenly touched Mel, she was stunned.
She quickly touched her again and realized she's burning hot.
"Oh my God! You have a fever, Mel." She hyped over it and quickly helped her unstrapped the baby, setting him on the next chair and turning to face her friend.
"Go and have a shower. I will go get the meds after you return." Amy said and Mel shook her head.
"Is there something you're not telling me?" Amy asked.
"I…. I noticed a black car through a reflection twice today. I think they will make a move soon. Amy, I don't want to lose Collins to those people. They will ruin his life. I don't want to be apart from my son." She began to whimper and Amy also felt her heart beating fast.
Oh dear! Please don't let this be! She mentally prayed Mel misunderstood, but no.
The beginning of trouble has just begun in their life, because she was indeed followed.
