Hollow Reign: Character Creation

She didn't know when it had happened but the feeling of her back against her bed slowly faded away. Ren felt as if she was floated in a deep pool of water for what she imagined to be an eternity before hearing a strange sound.

*Ding!*

[Scan complete...Disability detected...Congenital Eye Defect resulting in 100% Blindness...switching to Assist Mode...]

*Ding!*

[Assist Mode activated...visual cues will be replaced with auditory cues.]

[Body measurements, and facial capture complete...Would you like to adjust your appearance?]

[Yes or No?]

'Heh, they really did try to make this easier on blind people...its probably the same for many other disabilities. Still though it captured my body measurements and face too? It was probably related to the suit and head gear. Does that mean I'll look the same in the game if I don't adjust it?' Ren though to herself before calling out 'Yes' in order to change her looks slightly.

[Answer confirmed...please select adjustments...'Face'...'Hair'...'Body'...]

"Face please! Make me look slightly different Sys but don't make me look strange!" Ren called out like she was talking to an actual person who she had one sidedly given the name Sys to.

[Custom answer confirmed...complete...would you like to continue modifications?]

[Yes/No]

'Ohh that's cool, I guess I don't need to give specific answers as Sys seems to be able to understand what my intentions are...neat!' Ren thought enthusiastically before calling out for the system to make changes to her hair.

She told the system to make her hair longer, as well as to change the style slightly. It didn't really matter what the system changed it to, so long as it still looked pretty. She also told it to change her hair color from her originally pure black color, which her mother had told her was a result of her Asian blood, into a more fantasy like style by adding glistens of purple. She had always secretly wanted to die her hair many colors but knew her family liked her dark hair.

Although she didn't know what each color looked like, her brother had once describe to her what each color was like as best he could. So when she had heard that purple was reminiscent of the mysterious, hidden yet visible, never ending nature of space, she had quite quickly fallen in love with the idea.

[Changes implemented...character display initiated...please reach out your hand.]

'Huh?' Confused at the prompt, Ren did as she was told.

"Ahh!" Ren cried out, having felt someone in front of her.

[...Character display initiated...]

"Eh? Does that mean..." Ren said softly before reaching out her hand once more. Although she flinched upon coming into contact with the person again, this time she didn't move her hand away and slowly felt the face of the person in front of her.

'It's...me...' She thought absentmindedly. Although the system had changed her features slightly she knew herself more then anyone.

After feeling all of the changes to her body, Ren was quite pleased and decided to move on.

"Confirm the changes please!" She called out.

[Command confirmed...please select a name, race, and starting class. For information on anything, say 'Help...' followed by the topic of need.]

'A name...I could probably just do my name. As for race and class...I don't even know what's available...I'll have to ask for help then.' Ren thought to herself.

"Set name as 'Serenity'...'Help Race and Class' please!" Ren called out hoping to get all the information at once.

[Command confirmed...name set...help initiated...]

[Races of {Hollow Reign} are many and users have compete freedom to choose which race they prefer. The system will try to pair you up with players of similar races or in a world with a variety of races. The race classifications available at start are...'Human'...'Elves'...'Dwarves'...'Beastmen '...'Undead'...'Giant'... there are multiple options within each section. As there are many options available, would you like some examples?]

"Yes please display examples for every race!" Ren called out even though she has an idea as to what the system was getting at.

[Examples...

Humans: High Human, Halflings, Asura, Avian

Elves: Sun Elf, Moon Elf, Spirit Elf, High Elf

Dwarves: Cave, Plain, Mountain, Sky

Beastmen: Fox, Wolf, Bird, Bear, Cat, Pig

Undead: Zombie, Skeleton, Wrath, Vampire

Giants: Qun, Jun, Tun, Vun]

[To learn the specifics of the races, you may use the 'Help' feature.]

'So many options? I didn't know the level of freedom in this game was going to be so high. I was expecting things to be pretty restricted...now then the question is...what to pick?' Ren though to herself as she attempted to narrow down the selection slightly.

'Dwarves, Undead and Giants are out, although I like the concept of being such a unique race I just can't see myself in any of those. I don't know what some of it means but I can make a guess based on their names. That leaves Humans, Elves or Beastmen...' Ren though before deciding to investigate Beastmen more.

"Help, Beastmen!" She called out to the ever helpful system.

[Beastmen...A tribal race which are the descendants of humanoid monsters and other races. They kept some of the physical prowess of monsters as well as their evolution trait.

-Fox Tribe: Their appearance is similar to humans with fox tails and ears. Strong in magical attack and defense.

-Wolf Tribe: Although similar in appearance to their sister tribe, the fox tribe, the wolf tribe possess higher population numbers and physical might. Strong in Strength, and Dexterity.

-Bird Tribe: The only beastman tribe capable of natural flight. Their appearance closely resembles that of their predecessors, the harpies. Strong Dexterity with a verticality advantage in most fights.

-Bear Tribe: One of the more 'animalistic' tribes, the Bear tribe possesses a body covered in fur and tough hide. Strongest defense and strength amongst the tribes yet rather slow when it comes to their movements.

-Cat Tribe: Similar to the Bear tribe, the Cat tribe is rather 'animalistic' in nature, similar to actual felines. They possess the best Dexterity amongst the tribes.

-Pig Tribe: The Pig tribe is often referred to as 'The Orc Tribe'. They are said to be descendants from one of the pet pigs owned by the gods long ago which managed to take on a humanoid form and eventually evolved into the Orcs. They have well rounded stats when compared to other tribes.]

'Wow...' Hearing all the information which the system gave her made it hard for Ren to wrap her head around everything. Sorting things out in her mind, she decided to also disregard most of the Beastmen tribes leaving only the Fox and Wolf tribes as options. It wasn't that she wasn't interested in the rest but rather she wasn't sure how comfortable she would be taking on more animalistic features other then possibly a tail and ears.

"Help, Humans!" Ren called out as she could pretty much guess what the elves did. She was more curious about the human races.

[Humans...A highly intelligent race which posses a wide range of skills and crafts often taking inspiration from the other races to improve themselves.

-High Human: Appearing like normal humans, High Humans have no specific weakness or specialties allowing for many different paths in life.

-Halflings: Shorter in height then the High Humans, the halflings are said to have once been the result of the cross breading between humans and dwarves yet no one has been able to prove this. Halflings, similar to high humans, have no specific weakness or specialities outside of their shorter stature which could be a boon or a bust.

-Asura: Appearing similar in looks to the other human races, Asura's possess two unique features. One of which is their six arms instead of the normal two arms. As well as their insanely high dexterity which is required to use their many limbs effectively. Warning: can be jarring for those not used to it.

-Avian: Avian's are similar to the Bird tribe in that they too possess large feathered wings. Many view them to be the messengers of the gods, while others only see them as mutated humans. They are generally stronger in magic and dexterity then some other human races but lack in strength and defense.]

'Wings?! So cool! However...' Ren got rather excited at being able to fly freely in the sky without actually turning into an animal. Yet imagining her feet being off the ground made her feel rather anxious. She had gotten rather used to attempting to sense the vibrations around her so being in the sky, the wind blocking off her hearing and not being able to rely on touch or any of her other senses, except maybe one which would be smell. However she imagined that too would be effected by the wind in many instances leaving her for the most part defenseless when in the air.

'It makes me slightly sad but...Avian is out...' She thought to herself now slightly depressed at not being able to feel that sense of freedom to float through the sky that she desired.

'Might as well check off Asura too because I don't think I could handle having six arms to be honest...although it seems so cool! Muuu...so many unique options that I want to try.' Ren thought with some dejection evident on her face.

'That leaves probably...High Humans, Halfling, High Elf, Spirit Elf, Fox and Wolf tribes. Let's see...Halfling seem similar to high humans aside from height so I can eliminate that one as I would want to stay my height. Spirit Elf sounds cool...' After thinking for a moment, she soon called out to the help system regarding Spirit Elves.

[Spirit Elf: The descendants of spirits, they are said to be the first elves to come into existence and their offsprings became the other elven races. They possess the ability to connect to the elements and celestial bodies enhancing their senses and connection to the world. They are often mistaken as Fairies by many due to their luminescent, translucent wings made from their spiritual power, or magic, which allow for short bursts of flight and quick multidirectional turns. Strong magical abilities, very weak in terms of physical prowess. Possess Elemental Form.]

'Eh? This one also has wings? Yet the system said that one resembles birds or angels with feathery wings while the other seems more like butterfly wings in a way. I remember mother once read to me a book about 'Fairies' and she had mentioned their wings were like that of butterflies. I wonder if I would have an easier time controlling these ones as opposed to the ones the Avian's possess? It says they're made from magic so maybe they can be turned on and off?' Ren thought before deciding to hear the last option for elves.

"Help, High Elves!" Ren called out, wanting to compare them to the rest of the elves, however, she had a feeling they would more closely resemble high humans.

[High Elf: Regarded as the first true elven race, with Spirt Elves being closer in nature to Spirits. High elves lack the deep connection to the elements that the Spirit elves have yet they make up for that with well rounded stats. Being able to fit both magical and physical rolls well.]

'So high elves are similar to the high humans just like I thought. They probably possess a much higher magical stats though while humans probably have higher physical stats. Then spirit elves have very high magical but low physical even when compared to other elves. I feel that a play style that revolves around magic and ranged combat suits me better. I cant even begin to wonder how I would fight someone in close corners without being able to see their strikes. Although I've heard of blind warriors sensing an opponents strike, it probably takes years of practice.' Ren though to herself.

"I've decided! I will pick the Spirit Elf please!" Ren exclaimed excitedly at possibly being able to fly after all, yet not having to deal with having large cumbersome wings dawdling behind her everywhere she went.

[Command confirmed. Please select a starting class. Warrior, Knight, Berserker, Monk, Archer, Rouge, Mage, Priest. (Note starting classes are only used to help designate your starting stats in combination with your own physical features. After getting into the game players are free to delegate points however they please.)]

'Huh? So you're not stuck to one role? You could in essence be a swordsman who welds magic or a tank that heals? That's cool, maybe I should be a priest to help brother out when he joins the game? That would mean needing to solo level as a priest for a week which seems hard...let's stick with a mage for the early levels and farm as much exp as I can in this one week. When I was looking up MMO information a lot of people mention how important farming was so I'll do that for now.' Ren thought in her head before choosing the Mage class.

[Command Confirmed. Mage class selected. Mixing user's real life physique status with the mage class...complete. To view your status all you need to do is to think of your status and it will appear. Your status will be hidden from other players on default but you may change these settings in game.]

'Status...' Ren thought.
