What Now?

I awoke to the sound of birds chirping and sunlight in my eyes. I opened my eyes slowly, surveying my surroundings to be sure it wasn't a dream. I was swathed in thick, soft blankets in a baby pink poster bed. A faint breeze came from the window, briefly lifting up the thin drapes. My belongings, which I had strewn about were now organised and folded neatly, and my outfit for the day was draped on sofa.

An overwhelming sense of relief came over me. How long had it been sense I had slept so deeply and without worries? I choked up a bit at the thought. Really, I had endured no end of sufferings. People around me all died one by one, leaving me alone. I checked my qiankun bag at my waist, which I had had a habit of tying onto myself as I slept, just to make sure everything was still there. They were.

Now that I had a good rest, I was finally in a proper mood to survey the room. Everything had been picked out tastefully to much a young girl's preferences. Unlike the cultivators' residences I had stayed in, which were bland and dull, someone had clearly spent a lot of effort getting this room ready. After I put on the prepared clothing, I stared at the wall blankly.

Now what? I didn't have a job. I didn't have a master. I didn't have a... alright, I had a home now, but I had yet to decide whether I should shamelessly stay here. What's more, I had inherited both my parents' legacy and Old Man Zhao's legacy in 1 night, giving me more questions than answers. While one might be happy to suddenly get such a windfall, I was aware the only reason people were after me was because I had such possessions. I was even skeptical if I should trust the people here, but I didn't have a choice. I was at their mercy. An 8th level Aura Refining cultivator... even Yun was at the Foundation Building level.

After all I had been through, I wasn't so deluded as to think I might be welcome here forever, or that I could always depend on these people. However... my parents' legacy had been sitting in that vault for 5000 years and no one had stolen or misappropriated it. There must be some level of trust there, right? However, just because Brand Head Yao could be trusted, didn't mean there wouldn't be others who would try to get close to me to get to the legacy. In the end, I still had to stand on my own feet to have peace of mind.

Firstly, I should meet the steward of this place. Since I would be staying here for awhile, I had to be polite. Then I could perhaps familiarize myself with the surroundings, see if that Nascent Soul grandmaster wanted to see me, then make an excuse to shut myself in my room. I tied things up and proceeded to the outer room.

I prepared to send out a summoning talisman, but before I could do so... was that Yun? Yun was already sitting in the outer room, leisurely reading a book. "Were you waiting for me?" I asked. "Yes, Miss Ying. Steward Heng said you might take awhile." "I'm really sorry to make you wait for me. You must be very busy." I said. "No, that's alright. What do you want to do now?" he asked.

I told him my thoughts. He just nodded, then led me out of the room. Outside my room was a small hall with a large fountain and a small garden. While the rest of this place was decorated like a palace, the area outside the accommodations were decorated in a minimalist style. The pillars and walls ranged from a matte bronze to champagne pink, overall earthy and calming hues. The sound of the water added to a tranquil atmosphere. However, while there wasn't anyone else around, there were other doors in this area. "Do people live there too?" I pointed.

Yun smiled and shook his head. "No, Miss Ying. Those are also your rooms." as we walked, he opened each door for me to see. There was a large room specifically for rearing spirit beasts. While I say it was a room, it was really more like an inter dimensional space, just like what the vaults were made out of. There were sleeping areas, lots of grass, a large pond, and even miniature hills. The next room was used as a treasury. At the moment, it was just a large, empty hall with many shelves. I somehow doubted I would use this room. There was a door that opened into a backyard that functioned as a herb garden. There were already some common herbs freshly planted as well as a warehouse of common herbs ready for me. Now that we were outside, I could finally see where we were. We turned out to be perched at the top of a very high mountain. Leaning over the edge, I could even see lakes, shops, and more buildings. "Does National Aurra Bank own this mountain?" I asked. "Yes, as well as the next 3 mountains." he said. "And you use it... to do what?" I asked. "You'll see." he said.
