A trip to the supermarket

In the morning, I quickly got dressed but found myself standing still, staring at the bag for about five minutes.

A huge grin spread across my face as I gently picked it up.

I searched around for my phone. I didn't really need it for maps in my own city, but it felt reassuring to have it with me for security.

I couldn't locate my phone; I looked almost everywhere.

An idea struck me, but I had no way of knowing if it would work. I decided to try it on something else first. My eyes landed on the manga book on my study table.

I plunged my hand into the bag and began saying the manga's name, all while keeping a focused gaze on it.

My heart started pounding in my chest, and I suddenly realized that at some point, I had been holding my breath. I quickly withdrew my hand while taking deep breaths. "What?! I'm not scared."

I glanced at the bag, which was now on the floor, and muttered, "Who says I'm scared..." as I slowly moved towards it. "I'm just being cautious, that's all. I'm just being cautious."

I sat down beside the bag. "Who knows what kind of monste... uh, I mean, things are in there."

I admit I've watched a lot of horror movies. However, I tried to calm myself and soon burst into laughter at how ridiculous I'd been acting. "Thank goodness I'm alone."

As soon as I picked up my bag, I found my phone hidden behind one of the bed legs. I put it in my jeans pocket instead of the bag, just in case of emergencies. I certainly wouldn't have time to retrieve it from the bag.

Although it was a little disappointing that the bag didn't possess teleportation properties, I consoled myself, thinking, "[Nah, it's better this way]."

"Let's go!" My eyes sparkled brighter than the stars with excitement. Today, I planned to visit the academy to inspect other bags.

"Will all the bags be pocket dimensions? If so..." I quickly wiped the drool from my mouth and pretended as if nothing had happened.

Maybe I could gather some clues by checking the bags there. "But first, let's go to the supermarket."

The supermarket was about ten minutes away from my home.

"Hello, heaven!" I grinned. "What? I'm not here to enjoy myself. I'm here for purely experimental reasons," I said, still eyeing all the junk food and cold drinks. "Yup, purely experimental reasons."

I needed to determine the nature and capacity of the pocket dimension, so I decided to take a few things while conducting my experiments. After all, they were going to be replaced anyway.

I greedily stuffed Lay's chips, various other chips, candy bars, chocolates, and cold drinks into the bag. I didn't spare anything.

The bag still didn't show any signs of filling up, although it did feel a little heavier. The weight had changed ever so slightly, but I dismissed it as my mind playing tricks on me. It made sense that things got heavier when they were filled, right?

The pace at which I was adding items to the bag started to slow down. "Ugh! My arm hurts," I moaned, rubbing my arm in the hopes that it would somehow feel better. "This is why a person should exercise, you potato," I chided myself.

However, I couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards myself, considering my near-zero upper body strength and the heavy workload that required such strength.

I began adding some healthier items to the bag, but nothing changed. There was no sign that the storage was filling up.

Unbeknownst to me, sometime during this interval, my phone blinked three times before returning to normal.

I continued to add items to the bag, some of them heavy, but the lack of change perplexed me.

I wanted to determine the bag's capacity so that I could save space for more essential items. At this point, I began stuffing disposable plates, cups, containers—anything I could find. Still, there was no sign that the bag was filling up.

Yet this time, I did notice a clear change in weight. It seemed the more I filled the bag, the heavier it became. If this was the case, then the bag's capacity could be gauged by the amount of weight it could carry.

However, I wondered about the maximum weight it could handle. Even after loading so many items into it, the increase in weight was minimal. It would be challenging to determine the specific weight gain from placing a particular item inside.

The last thing I placed in the bag that caused a noticeable increase in weight was the disposable items. Disposable items are generally lightweight, which made me question if the bag's weight was related to the weight of the objects inside or the space they occupied.

I removed around a ton of disposable items, and the bag seemed lighter now. "Wow!" I was astonished by the size of the pocket dimension, though I still didn't have an exact figure.

Hypothetically, the bag would start to break if it exceeded a certain weight. This maximum weight for the pocket dimension was likely the same.

My bag was small, but 5-7 kg shouldn't be a problem. Given the ample space, it seemed like a reasonable estimate.

I smiled brightly, comparing my dimension with the ones I'd seen in anime and manga. I removed all the extra items from the bag, keeping only the essentials.

When I checked the bags at the academy, they didn't turn into pocket dimensions; they were ordinary bags. Regardless of how many bags I examined, the result remained the same.

I started making my way back home. I had been so immersed in my thoughts that I didn't notice how peaceful and pleasant the surroundings were.

Before deciding on my course of action, I wanted to explore other places as well. I was likely to leave within the next one to two weeks.

As I strolled down the road, I couldn't help but appreciate the wonderful weather. The beginning of autumn is truly the best time. There was a refreshing, minty scent in the cool breeze.

I stood in the park, letting the wind relax every cell in my body. "How?" I inhaled deeply, trying to smell the minty scent once more. However, I couldn't detect it in the air.

The more puzzling part was that, despite not being able to smell it, I could still sense it. "Sense it?! How can I know what it smells like when I can't even smell it? How can I feel a smell?" I became frustrated and began to pace around. "Ugh! I'm going to lose my mind. How can someone not?"

There were so many inexplicable things happening. I started to look around and noticed that the leaves on all the trees were completely still.

Now that I thought about it, there was no breeze currently. The leaves on the trees remained motionless, and it seemed that there was no breeze at all. Yet, I could still feel a breeze when facing north.

I was filled with curiosity. It's true that curiosity killed the cat, but ignorance was even deadlier. I started to move toward the source of the breeze or whatever it was.

The sun had already set, and there was just a faint light left in the sky. It wouldn't be long before it was completely dark.
