"It has been a year, huh."
It's been a year since I saw another guy kissing my fiance. It hurts so much that I wanted to die.
I was in a relationship with her for four years. I gave everything to her. I even lost the time to spend with my family because of her.
My family owns a clothing business. We have a stable income, and you might call it we are rich.
I met a girl named Lauryn when I was in grade ten. Her family and mine were very close thus our parents decided to arrange a wedding for us in the future.
Not to brag about my self but I'm good looking. I am even more handsome than the guy I saw kissing my fiance. Ex fiance to be exact.
I took a picture at that time then showed it to both mine and her parents.
But what is love when your opponent is wealthy? After a few research, the guy was the son of a large car company.
Lauryn's parents scold her and ask for my forgiveness but remembering the time I saw her kissing the guy, and it hurts as if my heart pierced by a knife.
I don't want to remember anything again, so let's go back to the present.
I decided to stop studying. I am currently in the first-year college right now if I continued going to school, but I decided to stop and trained my body in a different kind of martial arts. I don't know why I am learning this, though.
I left my home town and decided to live in my grandfather's place, far away from the city.
The place I am living right now is like a forest with a mountain, just a walk for about thirty minutes from here.
Staying in this place helps me relax and forgot everything that happened little by little. I told my grandpa about what happened back in the city and comforted me after that, in a week when I live with him.
He said, "you're a man so let's make you tough!". It's a little bit hard for me to adjust in this place, but with grandpa's guidance, I am doing very well.
'Knock'
'Knock'
I was daydreaming then someone knocked.
"Coming."
I stood up from the bed, then opened the door.
"Oh, Hugo! Good morning!"
Hugo is the name of a wild bear my father raised. Grandfather said he found Hugo from a dying mother bear when Hugo was still a baby.
And also, Hugo is my sparring partner. Wrestling with him improved my endurance and strength so much.
"Did you hear about the news?"
"News about what?"
When I reached the kitchen, my grandfather suddenly spoke. I replied curiously. It's rare if my grandfather talked about news regarding other towns, cities or even countries.
"Have you ever heard about aliens?" My grandfather replied.
"Aliens? I heard about it, but I don't believe they are real." I answered back.
"Last night. An Alien was spotted." My grandfather threw a newspaper for me.
A picture of a bipedal monster is in the newspaper. The image was not clear; maybe the person that took it was scared and snapped the camera as long as he has evidence with my dumbfounded face. My grandpa talked again.
"It runs towards this forest. Harley, it's better if you leave this place for a while until Hugo and I eliminate it." My grandfather said, looking at me with a severe face.
"No! I don't want to leave you!" I shouted at him. It was not a loud shout, but I don't want to leave my grandfather. Especially in an incident like this.
I didn't know if this was a coincidence or not, but why did the monster run towards here and how did it even end up in a place like here.
My grandfather stood up to force me. We suddenly heard a weird sound outside.
'Screech!!"
It was a screeching sound that sent chills in our spine. Even my grandpa that I recognize as strong was dropping sweat on his forehead.
Hugo instinctively walks in front of us as if he is protecting us.
I look at Hugo then pat his back. I also looked at grandpa then said "Grandpa It's my time to repay you now. I want you to run and call for the police." I smiled at grandpa. Even thou I'm scared, I want him to live longer.
Grandpa wanted to retort my actions, but I told him "Please grandpa trust me."
My grandpa sighed then went to a room looking for something. Then, when he came back, he was bringing a sword.
"What is this?" I asked.
"It's an heirloom from the Reese family generations ago." My grandpa said.
"Thank you for trusting me, Grandpa, and I love grandpa."
I hugged my grandfather, and he hugs me back while patting my back. He looked at me again then runs towards the back door.
Hugo looked at me. This bear is smart, and I like it. And did Hugo grin?
'Screech!'
The screeching sound can still clearly heard just outside. Then Hugo rushed to a wall where the sound came from then the wall shattered.
What appeared in front of us is a bipedal, cybernetic insectile monster.
It has a black metallic body with a broad, flat head that is saucer-shaped.
It has two green eyes and a full mouth with exposed white teeth, giving it a grinning appearance.
It has a heavily-armoured metal exoskeleton.
Metallic plates and segmented metal parts structured its arms and legs.
There is a pale red stripe across its diamond-shaped abdomen.
My hand is shaking. I don't know if I can fight this monster because of being shocked, the beast rushed at me without giving me a second chance to counter. I closed my eyes and prepared to receive the attack, but Hugo rushed at the front again then hit him full force with its body.
The monster was sent flying towards a tree, and even the tree was cut in half down. Hugo was powerful.
I regained my senses and looked at Hugo. Hugo's arm was bleeding. Then I looked at the monster. Some part of its metallic body has cracks like a spider web.
"Sorry, Hugo." I looked at Hugo, then apologized. I was ashamed of that encounter. I am trained even it was just a year. I learned many sets of skills from different kinds of martial arts.
"My turn!" I shouted and rushed towards the stunned monster.
