A new discovery

Luffy sent Nami and Usopp away with Gyarados to pick up the Going Merry. First, he didn't want that ship, it was too small for his crew and all of his monsters. But for now, he would take it with him. His ship in the New World was huge, and he could have several ships in the future for more flexibility.

The rest of the crew arrived in front of the Marine base in Loguetown. Before they could enter it they saw that they were surrounded by white smoke and nobody could see anything.

Luffy knew the one who was responsible for this, there was only one guy with this kind of ability.

"Wow, Smokey. You think that you are strong enough to defeat me after two years?"

Luffy grinned and one of his hands turned black. He closed his eyes and tried to sense everything around him with his Observation Haki. After that, he punched with his fist.

The smoke started to disappear and a man with a bump on his head stood in front of them. He was the captain of this marine base.

"Damn you and your illogical Observation Haki. How did you know that my face was exactly at this place?", Smoker said with an angry voice. He trained like a madman but Garp's grandson was still leagues ahead of him.

"Smokey, where is Tashigi? I see that you trained even without me in those two years. I'm proud of you."

Luffy patted Smoker's shoulder like he was a little student of his. The funniest thing was that Smoker was a little bit proud that he got this compliment.

The crew, on the other hand, was confused. Why did it seem that this grumpy Marine Captain was a little student of their captain? Only Ain and Hina knew that poor Smoker was also trained by Luffy two years ago.

Tashigi sighed and walked towards her captain and Luffy. She didn't want to see him, but now she couldn't escape.

"Ah, isn't this Tashigi?", Luffy smiled. "Attack me. I want to see your improvements!"

Tashigi attacked Luffy with her sword. She tried to put all of her strength into this attack, but Luffy blocked it without effort.

After that, she looked towards Luffy but she saw that he frowned.

"Tashigi… Two years have passed since I saw you last time. You made this little progress in two years?"

Luffy had a disappointed look on his face like he was betrayed by his own family.

"Oh, I'm screwed", Tashigi nearly cried. "I should have focused more on my training. Who would have thought that I would see him after two years…"

...

It took Usopp and Nami a while before they returned with the Going Merry. Now was finally the time to go to the Grand Line. Luffy convinced Smoker and Tashigi to depart for Alabasta. Smoker liked Luffy, even if he wouldn't admit it. He wanted to improve himself and Luffy had a special talent to improve the strength of his students. Even Tashigi knew that. Maybe his training was hard, but his only goal was to make them stronger. So he didn't torture them just because he liked it.

Luffy looked towards Nami and Usopp with a smile.

"Guys, what took you so long?"

"There was a strange guy named Buggy who thought he could attack us", Nami answered with an arrogant expression. "We beat them up."

Luffy nodded in satisfaction. He looked towards the iconic first ship of the Straw Hats, but he wasn't really happy with it. He always had his ship from the New World in mind, this ship was a paradise. He liked the Going Merry because of her story, but it was too little.

"Let's depart for Reverse Mountain. We have to rescue a princess!"

...

It took them a while before they passed Reverse Mountain and finally arrived at the Grand Line.

The first thing that they saw was a huge whale. It was a whale named Laboon, the best friend of his future musician.

While the crew was shocked about Laboon, Luffy started to laugh.

"Finally - after all those years, I can do what every Pokemon Trainer has to do to become the very best! A wild Wailord appeared!"

The crew knew that their captain was up to something strange again. He took out one of his Pokeballs and a new monster appeared.

The crew looked at the new creature with interest. They saw Gible, Gyarados, and Chansey, but this new monster wasn't summoned by their captain until now.

Luffy took out his Pokedex and checked the status of his new partner.

[Flaaffy

Fluff Pokémon

Not even downy wool will grow on its rubbery, nonconductive patches of skin that prevent electrical shock.

Gender: Female

Nature: Modest

Ability: Static (30% chance an enemy making contact with this Pokemon will be paralyzed.)

Level: 20

Attacks: Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Growl, Tackle, Thunder Wave

[Thundershock: Inflicts regular damage. Has a 10% chance to paralyze the target.]

[Thunderbolt: Inflicts regular damage. Has a 10% chance to paralyze the target.]

[Growl: Lowers the target's Attack by one stage.]

[Tackle: Inflicts regular damage.]

[Thunder Wave: Paralyzes the target.] ]

This little sheep was Luffy's first electric-type Pokemon and one of the strongest the game could offer. In a world full of water, this Pokemon had a lot of advantages.

Luffy pointed towards Laboon. "Flaaffy, use Thunder Wave!"

The little sheep nodded and a wave of electricity attacked the huge whale who was stunned for a couple of seconds.

"Attack with Thunderbolt!"

Before Laboon could react, he was hit by a Thunderbolt. The poor whale was surrounded by water, so this electric-type attack was even more effective. This move alone was enough for the whale to faint.

After all those years in the One Piece world, Luffy started to understand the abilities of his Pokemon. In the Pokemon world, every living being had a type they were strong or weak against, but that wasn't always true in this world. Humans without Devil Fruit's, for example, didn't have a type, but there were many things that still worked in the logic of a Pokemon game.

Creatures that lived in water were still weak to electric-types. A human that had eaten a devil fruit with a special element like ice was still weak to fire attacks, and Eneru couldn't damage Gible because he had the ground-type. So if his theory was true, then Blackbeard with the Yami Yami no Mi was a dark-type and was weak against fighting- and bug-type Pokemon. So a Caterpie would be Blackbeard's nightmare, this was a funny thought.

It was no surprise to Luffy that Laboon couldn't withstand a single Thunderbolt from Flaaffy. Luffy didn't attack this whale to level up his monster, he wanted to test something out.

After his Trainer Level went up, he got many items from the Pokemon world. Many of them were Pokeballs.

[Pokeball: Allow's the user to catch creatures that are categorized as monsters]

He was really surprised when he first got one. The first thing he did was to test his Pokeball on Ain, but it didn't work out and he was beaten up by the beauty. Maybe he deserved it, but he had to test it out.

Now he had Laboon in front of him, this guy had to be a monster. He threw a Pokeball towards the whale and he disappeared. Luffy looked towards the Pokeball who was now on top of the sea. He was so excited, this was the first time he could catch a Pokemon. After a couple of seconds, the ball stopped to move and it signaled to Luffy that he finally caught his first Pokemon.

"This Trainer has caught a wild Wailord! This is a good day!"

He hugged Flaaffy and then he jumped into the water to catch his new Pokemon. When he arrived in front of the Pokeball, he noticed that an old man was in front of him with a shocked expression. Behind the old man were two other guys, all of them looked familiar.

"Oh, I forgot about the people that were inside my Wailord…"

He ignored the old man who was glaring at him in anger. He took out his Pokedex and checked the status of his new Pokemon.

[Island Whale 'Laboon'

Huge Sea Monster

A loyal sea creature that has a huge lifespan and endurance. People can live in the stomach of this Pokemon.

Ability: Loyal Friend (If this Pokemon fights beside his master, he will strengthen the overall strength of his master by 10%, 20% or 30%. It depends on how strong the bond between the master and this Pokemon is.)

Nature: Adamant

Level: 13

Attacks: Tackle]

Luffy was shocked. This status changed his overall situation. The first astonishing thing was that this whale got a unique ability after he caught him, an ability that didn't even exist in the Pokemon game. And it was a good one. The second astonishing thing was that a monster he caught would be registered as a real Pokemon, so he could train them. At the moment, Laboon only had 'Tackle' as an attack, but maybe he could acquire more attacks from now on because he counted as Pokemon. Maybe it was even possible for unique attacks to appear like the new ability.

Luffy wanted to directly set sail to the mink tribe in the New World. Wasn't this like a Safari Zone for him?

This discovery was a huge game-changer. Was it possible for Laboon to evolve?

Luffy didn't want to train Laboon, this Pokemon was for Brook. But if he could catch other monsters and level them with his Pokemon System, he could give them to his crewmates. He couldn't train hundreds of monsters at the same time, but his crew could train the ones he didn't want.

Luffy couldn't think about it further because the old man in front of him started to attack him.

"What happened to Laboon? Where is he?"

The old man was Crocus, the former doctor of the Pirate King.
