Like mother, like son

I forgot what happened this morning due to the busy schedule I have in the office. First, I have to orient the new employees on what they have to do and what tasks they have to accomplish. Second, I need to have an hour or two meeting with the creative team to discuss ideas on how we can do the advertising campaign for Liberty Group. Third, I need to make a lot reports to be submitted to Mr. Smith so he could see how we progress. Actually, I already asked Geoff before about his opinion with some of our proposals and he already agreed to focus on emphasizing on their facilities without the need of famous celebrities since Liberty Group is already famous in the market so it is easier for me to come up with more ideas.

The day went by so fast and I was hoping night time won't come. I hope when I arrive home, Regina is already resting or she went outside. I went directly to the parking lot where Sam, the driver (I got his name from Nancy, I was so rude not introducing myself this morning to him) and Nancy are waiting.

"How was your day madam." Nancy greeted.

"It was tiring but everything went smoothly. Where did you stay the whole day?" I asked Nancy.

"I went to a library madam, reading books on how to please a mother-in-law." She looks excited while telling me about what she did. "I got this book for you. I'm sure you will love it." She handed a book entitled 'Taming Mothers-in-law'. I find the title amusing but I don't think a book can change Regina's feelings towards me. She is such a difficult woman to get along with.

"I just hope we won't see her tonight. How about we eat in a fast food restaurant before heading home? The three of us! Sam, please go to the nearest fast food restaurant." I requested.

The three of us ate together. Sam was hesitant at first but joined us in the end. I couldn't enjoy eating since I am scared to go home. What's worse is today is only Monday, Geoff will be back four days later.

When we arrived home, I and Nancy walked as quietly as possible and headed directly to the bedroom. I already asked Nancy to bring some of her clothes yesterday so she doesn't need to go down anymore. As we were walking towards the bedroom, a silhouette of a woman is standing right in front of the bedroom door. It's the woman we don't want to see.

"Good evening." I said humbly.

"Does your maid also work in the office? Is she getting paid by Geoff or your office? Isn't she supposed to help in household chores?" She asked. She looks more scary.

"I asked her to do some stuff for me. And Geoff said her work is to keep me company especially when he is not around." I explained.

"I think you are so generous to give money to charity." She is now glaring at me. "Is it because it is not your money so it is very easy for you to give salary to people who are not even doing any service for you? I never thought you are that stupid."

"Sorry, Mrs. Park. I will help in the house chores tomorrow. Please don't blame Madam. It was my fault." Nancy butt in.

"How dare you joined the conversation! It just shows how uneducated you are!" Regina

"That's enough! You are already crossing the line! You said you don't want to see me here so what are you doing in front of our bedroom? Nancy is working for me so it is my decision what she will do. I am also a Mrs. Park, please don't forget that!

Regina smirked. "Now you are showing your real character. Finally!" At that time Christof Arrived.

"What's happening here mom?" He asked Regina.

"This woman is telling me what I should and should not do in MY house! She thinks that now she married our Geoff, she can do whatever she wants! So disrespectful!" Regina

Christof looked at me with disgust. Of course, what can I expect? Like mother, like son!

"Please be respectful to my mom, she is already old. She is also the owner of this house like you." Cristof

I didn't say anything. I knew that arguing with them and defending myself at this time is useless. Whatever I say would be taken against me.

"Could you please at least say sorry, that is if you have manners. You are arguing with your mother-in-law.

I didn't say a word. Instead, I stared directly in Regina's eyes. I am not raised by my mom to be rude to older people, but this time is different.

"See how rude she is? I really can't understand how Geoff married this woman. There are more deserving and more educated woman than her. If Geoff's dad is still alive, I'm sure he will disapprove their marriage." Regina

"That's okay mom. Don't stress yourself." Geoff led his mom to her room.

I can't believe what I just saw. I was really furious that I want to shout loudly when I entered the room. Nancy was quiet. I can sense that she is angry too.

I tried to keep myself down. Since I am the new member of this family, I should be the one to understand her more. Probably she is threatened that I will take over this place but I really don't have any interest in this house. I am here for my husband and that's it. I hope she can see that.

"Do you want me to tell Mr. Park about how she treats you? I think he needs to know. I'm sure he will not allow his stepmom to speak to you like that." Nancy finally spoke up.

"No need. I can still endure it. What she said are all not true so I am not so affected. I had received worst comments when I was a student from my schoolmates so this one is nothing. I am more worried about you. You are younger than me so you are more sensitive. Please don't take whatever she says seriously. We can laugh at them together." I assured her.

"It is okay madam. I am thinking to just stay here tomorrow so I can help in the house chores. Maybe she will be lesser angry at the two of us. I am used to doing housework madam so don't worry about me." She said smiling. I love her optimism. I think with her attitude, we can overcome all the insults together.

"Are you sure you want to do that?"

"Yes, madam. That's not a problem."

"But you have to promise that if they make you do so much things or if they bully you, you will let me know okay? Don't let them do such things to do."

She nodded as a response.

I wish Geoff will be back soon.

That night Geoff called and said he can come back earlier than expected.

"I'm so happy. I can't wait to see you." I said.

"Me too. Did anything happen? You seem sad. Did the witch do anything to you? Did she make you feel sad?" He asked.

"No! I just miss you." I lied. "Everything is fine here. I haven't even seen him since you left."

"That's good. Let me know everything okay? I won't let her hurt you. I promised your mom that I will take care of you and I will keep even if that means I will kick that witch and my brother in the house."

I was touched with what he said but I won't allow his relationship with his stepmom and half brother to be ruined because of me. It's just the beginning anyway, I'm sure they will treat me nicer once they get to know me more. Or will our relationship really get better?
