It has been a week since the couple decided to start as friends.
Zhao Mingzhe had worn his frustrated face at work since then and it was taking a toll on Assistant Wen.
Assistant Wen cleared his throat when his boss had been staring on what he was guessing as the same word in the document for the past quarter of an hour. His legs were also getting numb standing still, waiting for the sign of approval from the CEO.
Zhao Mingzhe was looking at the word 'connecting' and remembered how his wife sort of banned him from touching her.
Finally, his boss sighed before Assistant Wen's legs give out.
"Something I can help you with, Sir?" Assistant Wen dared to ask when his boss had a lonelier than mad face.
Zhao Mingzhe signed the document, closed the folder and tossed it away towards the edge of his desk.
Assistant Wen took the document and bowed. "If there is nothing else, I'll..."
"Hey..." Zhao Mingzhe's voice stopped his Assistant from asking to leave.
"Yes, Sir?"
"You...is it possible to be friends with your wife?"
Assistant Wen's expression froze. He was absolutely sure he still put 'single' in his civil status on his information he updated at the start of the year. How will he answer such a question when he does not even have a girlfriend?
Zhao Mingzhe seemed like he was talkung to himself rather than throwing the question to his assistant.
Assistant Wen cleared his throat after several awkward seconds. "Sir...could it be that Young Madam Zhao..."
"She wanted us to start being friends!" Zhao Mingzhe blurted with a gesture of the hand.
"Uhm...did she...did she move out?" Assistant Wen treaded carefully.
"I at least made her promise not to!" Zhao Mingzhe stood up and started pacing on the carpeted floor.
Assistant Wen took a barely audible sigh of relief. It was at least good that the madam stayed in the house; otherwise, it might not be salvageable.
"But...I sleep in another room...because we're supposed to be just friends." Zhao Mingzhe continued his pace.
"That's ridiculous!" Assistant Wen wanted to bite his tongue after blurting his words.
Zhao Mingzhe's frown deepened.
"Uh...I...I mean...it should not be the case!" Assistant Wen hurried to make himself clear. "Sir, you should do something about this."
Zhao Mingzhe gave him a stern look. "Why am I even talking to you if you could only come up with 'do something about this'?"
Assistant Wen gulped. He furrowed his brows, squeezing out ideas from his brain.
Zhao Mingzhe kept silent but his eyes could kill his assistant.
"Ah!" Assistant Wen exclaimed. "You could go out as friends!" Before his boss could interrupt, he continued explaining. "You could go to the ice rink and skate. Friends can do that. Does the madam know how to skate on ice?"
Zhao Mingzhe furrowed his brows. He had yet to know this information. Then he imagined how it would like to guide his wife across the rink. He smiled at the idea.
Assistant Wen saw his boss smirk and took a sigh of relief. Then he realized he did not know if his boss could skate or not.
Zhao Mingzhe tapped his chin with his thumb as he imagined the plan of going out with his wife.
Suddenly, Assistant Wen interrupted his thoughts. "Uh, Sir...you do know how to skate, right?"
Zhao Mingzhe lost his smile and had a deep frown. He had not done ice skating in his life.
When Assistant Wen saw the frown in the face of his boss, he knew his idea turned from good to bad. "Also, you can come to the amusement park. Friends could go for rides."
"She hates heights and life-threatening activities." Zhao Mingzhe declared. He remembered how his wife trembled during his bunjee jump.
"Errhm...the zoo?" Assistant Wen ran out of ideas.
"That's it!"
