CHAPTER 11 - Zombie Knowledge

*****

A YEAR AGO BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE

After Eden had dispatched and "taken care" of the zombies that were approaching almost rapidly to where she is in the Safe Haven, she lowered the sniper rifle she had used and set it beside her in case she needs it again, and went back to writing on her journal.

She stopped for a moment when she felt her stomach grumble a bit, to signal her hunger and thirst, and she reached with one hand to her backpack and took out the bagged sandwich and bottle of water she had prepared for this.

She ate her snack shortly before saving the last half of the sandwich for later and went to continue writing in her journal while putting the water bottle beside her on the small table to drink.

JOURNAL ENTRY: DAY UNKNOWN, 3RD MONTH MARCH, YEAR 2XXX

Well, I dealt with the zombies that were about to come here from outside. There wasn't much of them which is fortunate for me at least.

Anyway, I'm sure you're all wondering what kind of knowledge I have found and discovered about the zombies I'm currently staying and living here in this apocalyptic city.

There seem to be so many things I want to write so much about it here, so I'll just start from the very beginning and try to simplify things as best as I can.

Make sure you remember another one of the important rules for survival.

RULE #20: Know your enemy.

There are so many kinds of people who might be calling the zombies when they started appearing. It all depends on the type of speed and agility and movement the undead do.

To me, there are three types that I had found out and discovered about them, and believe me, I feel like calling them in simple yet unique terms that it would be better to name them that would explain the kinds they are.

The first type of zombies I have encountered, I call them 'Betas' or 'Beta-Z'.

They are the slow-moving walking kind of zombies. And even though they see or hear any prey that is within their range, they are slow to catch up which they are the type that you can easily deal with and have no worries about them.

The second type of zombies I've encountered, I call them 'Omegas' or 'Omega-Z'.

These are the kind of zombies you need to watch out for, they're the kind of zombies that can run and sprint as normal living humans can do. Once they catch sight of their living prey within their sight or hearing range, they'll come running at you before you might have the chance to use your weapon against them. If you want to run or flee fast, you have to know 'parkour', it's the only way you can outrun the Omega zombies. And also these kinds of zombies cannot jump or climb like normal humans can do, they can only just run.

Believe me, about this, I had experience with it, and I almost got caught in a horde of Omega zombies when they had caught sight of me during one of my supply runs long ago. I was lucky enough to outrun them and escape alive.

Finally, the third and last type of zombies that I've encountered and the most dangerous ones you need to watch out for, are the 'Alphas' or the 'Alpha-Z' as I call them.

These mutated and monstrous zombies are like animals and they act in predator-like ways. The difference between these Alphas from the other zombie types is that they look almost like regular humans without rotting dead skin but they're not. They can run, sprint, leap, and jump faster than a normal human. And if you see one before it sees you, make sure you keep a far distance away from it before it gets you.

To know that it's an Alpha zombie you're dealing with from a regular human, you can easily tell by the pale and sickly pallor of their skin and the eerie red and grayish glints in their undead eyes, and the way they stalk and prey on you inhumanly like animal-like predators.

If one Alpha zombie was worse to deal with, then you might as well kill yourself when you're suddenly dealing with a pack or horde of the Alpha zombies.

Trust me on this, I've seen from a fair distance away insight long ago that some living human survivors tried to take on Alpha zombies and the horde just tore them apart into pieces like they were paper dolls.

Fortunately, Alphas only come out and hunt during daylight. At night, they are silent and quiet, and they hibernate to sleep mode which is the only time that is safe for you to get out and do supply runs when needed. Even though you have to deal with Beta or Omega zombies that can still roam about at night, you don't need to constantly worry about the deadly Alpha zombie types.

Okay, that's all I can write about what I know the basics of zombie knowledge that I have seen, encountered and discovered about them. I will write more but then I realized that I have to start planning and doing tasks into making a greenhouse to plant indoor fruits and vegetables here in the Safe Haven, and making up the water units for drinking pure water and bathing and cleaning myself for personal hygiene. Also making up storage units to store my supplies, food, and weapons.

I will write more in the future soon but from what I can see that time almost pass by fast and it's late at night already and I need to rest up for another day.

Even so, I'm still alive for another day and hoping to live more in the future to survive in this zombie apocalypse.

This is Eden, signing off.

*****

Eden finished writing her entry and looked thoughtful for a silent moment as she gazed outside the window before she packed up and grabbed her stuff and she was going to go back upstairs on the rooftop to rest for another day.

She got up to the roof, looking around just in case she had missed something from her sight or gaze that she didn't see, but so far she didn't see anything else and then she went straight to her tent and got inside to sleep again for the next days in the future to survive the apocalypse she's now living in.
