CHAPTER 40 - Spiritual Holiday Preparations

It's now the last week of the month and three days have gone and passed by as time goes on in Z-city there. And right there in Safe Haven, Eden and all the other adults in the group, except Ryu and Daiyu on watch-guard duties, are preparing for the holidays for this month that's soon to be ending and then moving on for the new one by then.

Eden was carefully stringing up some kind of fake cobwebs to give it a more spooky scary kind of scene like giant spiders were there nesting in one of the empty rooms, that's going to be turned into a 'Haunted House' feature room of sorts. And it helped to maximize the scary effects when Homer came in, lugging in some big plushy and fluffy dolls of authentic-looking giant spiders, that were almost bulging out from the box it was packed into before. Granted, they look a bit dirty and dusty from being unused for too long but the others didn't seem to mind.

Sahara was helping Eden to pass up the fake cobwebs to be stuck on or hanging by the walls of that slightly large empty room they're setting up as the Haunted room and when Homer came in, his line of sight was nearly blocked by the big pile of giant fake spiders he's bringing in, and then he wasn't aware that Nadia decided to scare her older brother a little by grabbing one of the hanging limp spider legs and let it fling right on his brother's face, making Homer instantly react comically like he thought the spiders were real and fell right on his back as the box of spiders came flying up and then crashing down on him.

Eden and the others set up the room and burst out laughing at the sight and Ole Bessie was the only one who snapped out of it and gently helped poor Homer get back on his feet. Upon realizing that he's been tricked and played, Homer turned to his laughing sisters with betrayal, while Eden tried to keep herself steady when she was standing on a slightly unstable ladder, trying to control her laughter and stop it before she might fall over and hurt herself.

Talia wasn't with them in that Halloween room, because she was busy distracting the children and making sure that they didn't see what they were working on and doing so that the fun won't be spoiled when the holidays come in and they'll enjoy having fun on going through the Haunted Halloween room.

After they were finished with the setup and done with the room for the kids, Ole Bessie, Mother Ying, and Nadia left to the kitchens to make plans and set up a very good holiday menu for all of them to appreciate and dine in upon a suitable meal. Then Sahara and Homer left to check on the traps and security measures around Safe Haven again, making sure that they're set up well and secured so that there won't be any problems upon celebrating the holidays when the time comes.

As for Eden, she was left behind to lock up the haunting room until the holidays come, and she went to set up another room that will be made into a prayer place where they'll give respect and honor memories of all the dearly departed and recently dead in prayers and respect for the spiritual holiday.

After Eden finished setting up and preparing the candles for that, as well as placing and making a space for the Asians to do their culture on respect in honor of the dead, Eden also locked up the prayer room and went to her room to write on the events into the new journal entry and she did just that as she took it out from its hiding place and started on writing in it.

JOURNAL ENTRY: DAY UNKNOWN, 10TH MONTH OCTOBER, YEAR 2XXX

Hey, it's me Eden again.

Wow, it's amazing how time flies by and you almost miss it upon realizing it but it's fortunate that it's not too late for me to miss that, since it's now nearing the holidays for October.

Since it's nearing the end of this month and will be soon the new one the next, I figured we should make up plans and prepare for the celebration and small parties for the holidays in honor of the dead as well as give prayers for our dearly departed and everything.

First, I thought I should make up something for my kids and the other group's kids to enjoy, by setting up a Halloween 'Haunted House' room. It's a good thing that I unconsciously gathered holiday decorations during my scavenging days back then on those supply runs into Z-city. And some of the stored boxes I had placed in the storage units were labeled with each kind of holiday, especially the Halloween one.

When I told the others of my plans for the holidays, they were instantly delighted to help out, but Ryu and Daiyu went off to do their watch-guard duties, as usual, staying out of it, as well as Talia who was needed to watch over and keep the children distracted while they get busy to setting up and decorating the place for the spiritual haunting holidays and such.

I got a nice good laugh, while we were busy decorating the Haunted room when Homer got tricked by a prank played on by one of his sisters Nadia teasing him as he came in with another Halloween box that has fake giant spiders on them. Needless to say, I was a little glad that one of us in our entire group, there is a very good humorous comedian, Homer when reacted comically and all of us laugh at the sight.

Homer complained hotly after he was helped back up on his feet by Ole Bessie, that he had a fear of spiders ever since then, and he didn't like it that his sister dared to tease and play with him like that and traumatize him even further, despite how he also suffered upon being in the middle of a zombie outbreak and everything.

I managed to tune them out while finishing decorating the walls upon sticking some fake spider cobwebs and everything, and once we were all done and finished, Nadia, Ole Bessie, and Mother Ying went to make up the holiday menu at the kitchens, Homer went with Mark to keep working on the devices and modifying them to better use, and then Sahara left to check on the two men upon the rooftop or maybe going to check on Talia and the children.

I stayed behind because I need to set up another room on my own, and that will be designated and made the prayer room in honor and giving respect for the dead, praying for our departed loved ones, and honoring their memory and everything in there. As I set up candles and carefully made up and placed make-shift altars, I made sure that I also create and made different kinds of altars and prayer spots for the other kinds of cultures to be used on this spiritual holiday, such as the Asians when they have their kind of culture in praying and respecting the dead.

After I was done with that, I locked both rooms up to be ready and prepared when the time arrives as the holidays come ahead, and I went to check on the others before finishing up then the time passes on and here I am writing in everything that's going on right here in this entry.

And so that's all there is to it.

I know it's not much on this entry, but I just had to write this out since we are all going to be busy for the holidays and giving prayers and respecting the memory of our dead ones and everything.

For the next time a new journal entry, it will be the new month by then and it will also be about what's going on, what plans were made, and what preparations are needed to be set up and ready for the incoming winter season since I had marked this down on the date and time on the Calendar room from last year.

I hope that my group and I will be able to live and survive through the winter season when it comes to Z-city here. And I pray and hope that we got enough supplies prepared and rationed so that we could all get through this.

Here's hoping and praying that we all make it through this for another possible new year, surviving through this zombie apocalypse.

After Eden finished writing the new entry, she put the journal away back in its hiding place and left the room to check on the others, first to the two brothers that are still up there on the rooftop taking over guard duties and after checking in on them that they're fine, Eden went downstairs and headed straight to the kitchen to help Nadia and the two old women with the menu for the holiday celebrations and such.

The time passes by after a small discussion and other subjects to talk about and need to be dealt with, it was now night time and they finished eating dinner before separating to their rooms and going to bed for another day.

Somehow Michael and Annie seem to know and both are anticipating excitedly for the holidays to come and the two kids are even more excited upon having their new friends celebrating and partying with them.

Eden chuckled warmly as she tucked them into bed and then she joined them to sleep and rest in a deep slumber, her mind calming down before the next new days come by in the future, and Eden and her group will be partying almost the whole days ahead for the holidays by then. It seems it's something that they need to celebrate together as a group, in honor to remember the times and have memorable moments of it, as nothing happened to them at all, despite that the zombie apocalypse did happen.

It is important to do the spiritual holiday preparations truly needed because they need some quiet yet celebrating days as time goes by so that they won't feel gloomy or depressed upon the kind of state the whole world is in from the zombie apocalypse back then and up to now.
