Going to the location of death

There had always been the rule that shastri has imposed upon himself. That is "Never make an assumption unless you have a solid backing for it." He would go on the check on the clues and make assumptions on the basis of it. Only after establishing a successful theory that would be backed by logical explanations, he would claim that he had solved the case. He did not like spouting half-baked theories which would could cut off the track in a case.

There was also a reason for this. When Shastri had just joined the police station he had been assigned to a mentor. At that time there was a murder case going in the court. His mentor had investigated the case and had apprehended the murderer. But at the court, because of one solid alibi the murderer had he had the murderer had to be let go. Shastri would never forget the condescending smile of the lawyer towards his mentor and him.

That was when shastri decided that if he was going to accuse someone, he would make sure he has enough evidences to prove his point. He would always analyze a case like a criminal lawyer to see whether he had left the any opening in a case.

Because of this he had become nightmare to the defending lawyers. Many lawyers would refuse to take the case if they knew the investigating officer was shastri. He always had a solid evidence or something to back his point….

As he came out of his thoughts he saw the whole room, looking at him expectantly, as though he would be taking out a bunny from his hat. But Shastri resumed his nonchalant expression. Then he requested the cops for witness report and post mortem report.

The cops were disappointed. They began giving the reports required. As shastri was going through the reports vimala came near him and asked, "Do you need my help?" smiling charmingly.

But shastri said seriously, "At the beginning I have already warned you not to interfere with the case. But you have already given out two theories trying to mislead the case. I will not scold you regarding that. But don't try to interfere with my investigation. This is my warning to you."

"Ok" she said, her voice really small. Even Viraj's face darkened, but he did not say anything.

Shastri resumed his work. He did not care about their expressions at all. After going through the eyewitness reports he had a mysterios smile on his face. He asked Viraj" Were there any eyewitness?"

"Yes, sir. There were around 6 to7 eyewitnesses. As it was morning time there was not much activity in the road" said viraj considering carefully.

After checking the postmortem report once again shastri got up to drink a cup of water. Then he told to viraj,"Ok Viraj. We will go to the location of death now. Next we have to interview the family members and friends once again. Oh, by the way did you trace the last call from his mobile?"

"Yes Sir. It was to his fiancé, at around 1am."

"What about the call before that, inviting victim out? Did you trace the call?"

"No, Sir. We tried to search for the owner of the number. It is showing the information of some person from other state."

"So, basically you are saying it was a duplicate sim card"

"Yes Sir"

"Ok. Just check with the mobile phone centers here and see if they have provided any person with duplicate sim card on this number. It is longshot, but it may help us get one more evidence against the murderer."shastri said.

Then shastri began to take some screenshots of the reports for checking purpose. After that he said to Viraj, "Ok. Let us leave now."

Suddenly vimala who was silent till now stopped them. Then she said Viraj "You can use my scooter to go there." then she looked at shastri sneakily.

To her disappointment, shastri did not look her at all. He was just instructions to one of the cop. After that near Viraj and asked "Can we leave now?"

Hearing his tone vimala felt frustrated. Then with 'hmph" she began going towards home.

Shastri then went with viraj near the parking lot. After that they took off to the location of death.

On the way viraj suddenly began speaking," Actually my sister is a very good girl sir. But sometimes she acts like that. She is very kind. Last year she took the intaitives for orphans and helped them by raising charity. She may act goofily sometimes but she is very good. You know-"

"Do you want to introduce me as a groom to your parents?"

"No Sir" viraj said, a little confused.

"Then why the heck are you telling me these things about her? Did I ask you?" shastri asked angrily.

An awkward silence resumed between both of them.

Shastri sighed and said, "Does your sister read Crime, investigation books?"

"Yes sir"

"Just tell her the investigation process is different in fantasy and in real life. We can't make assumptions without backed by solid facts in real life. Understood?"

"Yes sir."

After sometime shastri asked, "Have we reached the location yet?"

"No sir"

The awkward silence resumed once again.
