Chapter 2 - A Mistaken Destination

T/N: [ ] the system talking to Wei Wei

----------------

Compared to the sheer astonishment in Count Felix's eyes, the young girl in the tree—Wei Wei—was filled with nothing but pure terror.

As a transmigrator, the moment she realized she had landed in the wrong place, she had only one thought: drag the system out and beat it up.

To understand how she ended up here, we have to go back to an hour ago.

At that time, Wei Wei was just another 21st-century phone addict, engrossed in her favorite mobile game, Reincarnation, when she won the grand prize.

The reward? A trip to another world.

Of course, a mere pay-to-win mobile game didn't have the power to send people through time. The actual prize was issued by the Underworld's official Reincarnation System, which just so happened to share the same name as the game.

Wei Wei had never considered transmigration—especially not to an ancient world.

She had grown up in the most democratic and free era of history. A world without modern technology? No, thank you.

But she didn't really have a choice.

Everyone who participated in this "lottery" was supposed to have died peacefully of old age, yet had accidentally perished ahead of schedule.

Wei Wei, at twenty-four, was one of them.

When the system found her, she was already dead.

It had been a complete freak accident. She had been sitting at home, casually playing her game when a stray steel ball flew in through her open window—

—directly hitting her temple.

A sharp pain.

Then, darkness.

She had died instantly.

Now, the Reincarnation System presented her with two choices:

Spend the next sixty years in the City of Lost Souls before finally entering the cycle of reincarnation.Accept the Reincarnation Grand Prize and start a new life.

Wei Wei was no fool. Who would choose to be a ghost when they could be alive?

Besides, the transmigration package was pretty amazing. Though the destination was fixed, everything else was negotiable—one of the most famous perks of this prize.

She could choose her new identity—as long as it wasn't a reigning monarch.

And she could even draw a special ability.

The luck-based spin wheel contained all sorts of tempting powers, but Wei Wei ended up with an encyclopedia library inside her mind.

—Not bad. Especially in an ancient world.

If knowledge was power, then she was already invincible.

[Alright, tell me—what identity do you want? I'll arrange it now.]

In a feudal society, a good birth was the best starting advantage.

Since she was the one-in-a-billion lucky winner, the Underworld was willing to be generous.

Not wanting to take over someone else's life, Wei Wei glanced at her desk, her eyes gleaming with mischief.

"Anything?" she asked.

The newly assigned Reincarnation System, still naïve about human cunning, responded honestly:

[As long as it's not an emperor, almost anything is possible. But you need to blend in—if you get caught and burned as a demon, we don't offer refunds.]

"Then I want this!"

Her translucent finger tapped the computer screen.

On display was her in-game character—a female healer in sect robes, dutifully following her party through a dungeon in Reincarnation.

"I want to be her."

The healer was a support class, commonly known as a "medic". She belonged to the Xuanqing Sect, a legendary cultivation school specializing in medicine and poison. Despite being a support class, she had decent attack abilities as well.

Not to mention, the healer's character design was gorgeous—a graceful lady of noble birth, elegant and demure.

She could be a pure white lotus or a scheming green tea beauty—perfect for deception.

As someone never quite satisfied with her own overly striking features, Wei Wei loved this type of appearance.

The system froze for a moment before immediately rejecting her request:

[No! That character's skill set is way too overpowered for an ordinary world—it would completely break the balance!]

"You just told me I could live however I wanted," Wei Wei argued smoothly. "And now you're worried about balance?"

"Besides, if we're talking about breaking balance—isn't that encyclopedia library way more broken? And don't think I didn't see those other golden-finger abilities on the spin wheel—cultivation powers, superhuman abilities…"

The system fell silent.

It couldn't refute her logic.

Fortunately, Wei Wei wasn't too greedy. She had mostly chosen the healer for her appearance. Now that the system had rejected her initial request, it was time to negotiate.

"How about this?" she proposed. "You can nerf the character—take away all the OP skills and just leave the medical and poison knowledge, plus a little martial arts for self-defense. How about that?"

The system hesitated. [Well…]

Sensing weakness, Wei Wei pressed on:

"Come on, look at my luck—I won your grand prize! That means we're fated to work together, right? You don't want me to die immediately after transmigrating, do you? This is the ancient era—a simple disease or disaster could kill me instantly. Having basic survival skills isn't unreasonable, is it?"

[…That does make sense.]

"Exactly!" Wei Wei quickly followed up, "Since you already agree—"

[Wait, did I agree?]

"—I should at least be able to bring some personal belongings, right?"

"Just the items in my game inventory. I'm not asking for their in-game abilities—just turn them into regular objects and let me take them with me."

The system checked her inventory.

Her bag was full, but after removing all the magical properties, most of the items became ordinary trinkets.

It wasn't a huge energy drain to bring them along.

However—

[Fine, but you can't have the game's item storage function. I'll store them in my system space instead, and you have to take them all out once you arrive.]

Hearing that she wouldn't get a magical bottomless inventory, Wei Wei sighed in disappointment.

But since she could still bring all her collected items and in-game currency, it was still a win.

"Alright, but look—there are too many items in there. You have to give me time to find a place to store them before you take away the bag."

[You have one week.]

"Too short—at least a month."

[Two weeks. No more.]

"…Deal."

With negotiations settled, Wei Wei finally relaxed.

She had been bluffing the whole time—putting her haggling skills to full use.

If the system hadn't agreed, all her arguments would have been pointless.

Luckily, this system was easy to manipulate.

Now that she had survival skills, the rest would be smooth sailing. She had already checked the transmigration package—language and literacy issues would be automatically handled, so she wouldn't have to worry about becoming illiterate.

[Are you ready to go now?]

"…Can you wait a moment?" Wei Wei glanced at her lifeless body, sighing.

"I live alone. If my corpse just sits here, it won't be found until it starts rotting. I don't want to go out so disgracefully. Can you call the police for me?"

And the bastard who killed her?

He wouldn't get away with it.

[…Alright.]

Only when the system confirmed that the police had been alerted did Wei Wei finally let go of her lingering worries.

She took one last look at her body.

Then, flashing a bright smile, she turned to the glowing light in front of her.

"Thank you, system," she said sincerely. "For giving me a second chance at life."

The Reincarnation System awkwardly hesitated before muttering:

[You just got lucky.]

"But still—thank you."

[…Good to know.]

And then, Wei Wei closed her eyes.

As a knock sounded on her door, she departed from the world she once knew.

She hoped her friends wouldn't be too heartbroken when they heard of her death.

But don't worry, guys—

In this new world, she was going to live a damn good life.

The last thing she heard—

Was the door breaking open?

And then, darkness.
