The beginning

Crystal ran through the halls, her breath growing heavier with every step, heavy footsteps pounded against the cold hard flooring. Crystal came to an abrupt stop before slamming her door shut. She sat by the door as her breathing calmed, the heavy footsteps now hard bagging against the door. She looked out into the dark room, her eyes adjusting to the darkness as the banging lightened. She scanned the now slightly lighter room and noticed her brother sitting in her bed, crying with a blanket over his head. After what seemed like hours, the banging finally came to a stop as heavy footsteps walked away from the door. Crystal could finally get up and go make sure her brother was ok. She sat on the bed next to him and hugged him, his light tears turning to quiet sobs. She rubbed his head with her cold, bruised hands, trying her best to calm him down, as the night grew much more dark and cold.
