Chapter 8: Ryogi Montanez

Anna's Point of View

It was very early in the morning as Ryogi woke me up to get ready for school. He needs to comply for his requirements so he can already go to classes today. I sat on the floor in the dining room, drinking a cup of macha tea. Auntie Naomi isn't home, probably in her workplace which is in the hospital, I just don't know if hospital is the right name in this century. She's a physician, no wonder they're rich.

"I hope I get to attend the same class as you are in"

Ryogi spoke while he's busy washing his plate. Well, it is very cool if you have a classmate who is also your housemate that lives under the same roof.

"Yeah, I guess"

I replied quickly while letting my tea cool off.

"What's your favorite subject? I'm interested in theories and hypothesis"

He opened up another topic conversation. I thought for a bit on finding the answer to that question.

"I like Grammar, since grammar lets other people judge you the way you speak, so I have needs to sharpen my grammar"

I proudly answered and turned to drink up my macha tea. Ryogi only laughed as a response.

"Are you aware that all of us don't care about grammar and stuffs? As long as others understand what you said, they will still accept it"

He replied with a smiling face as he turned off the faucet and dried the plates and glasses using a small towel.

What does he meant to say? All of the people in this 19th Century don't think like an idiot? If that is true then this is my kind of century, unlike the 21st Century where everyone judges you just because you have poor sentence structure.

"Uhh, we better get ready, so you can get to enroll earlier"

I stood up from the floor and tried to get rid of the dirt from my duster dress. Ryogi nodded and smiled to me as he walked upstairs to his room. From the moment he smiled at me, I started to wonder about how I look at Ryogi. Are my feelings for suddenly developing? I just love this century because every man I meet here are very ideal, but the person I like the most is definitely Ryogi.

I ran downstairs to the door as quickly as I can. At the door, Ryogi was standing with an exasperated face. I smiled at him awkwardly. He must have waited for me for a long time here.

"You're late. Let's go to your school fast"

Ryogi said as he pulled my hand and ran outside the house. I felt the cool breeze touching my skin while I get to watch the sun rising on the horizon. I looked around and noticed some vintage looking houses with people wearing traditional dresses. This century is truly far more better than the 21st Century.

"Hop on!"

I turned back to see Ryogi stepping on a carriage with horses in front. I quickly ran towards the stairs of the wheelborrow happily. It was the first time of experiencing this ride. Right before using the step, Ryogi offered me a hand to hop on the carriage. I blushed a bit while taking a step to the stairs.

I've always hated guys but 19th Century guys are very different from those idiotic modern guys, it's very different. This I think just proves that I don't really hate guys, but I only liked the ones who deserved to be respected and admired.

I viewed the trees swaying along with the winds and tried watching flock of birds flying through the air. Life here is very simple and not complicated whereas life in the present is so advanced that it became very confusing.

After a few moments, we finally arrived at our school, and managed to be there in time. Students were walking with no emotions on on their faces.

"Good morning, Chieko!"

I heard a voice calling out my name from my back. I turned to look back and saw Ami with a cheerful face. She's the only person who has a smile in her face among all the students here.

"Good morning! I want you to meet my friend, Ryogi. I met him and his mother just a day after yesterday. Ryogi, this is my friend, Ami"

I greeted Yuna and introduced Ryogi. Ami nodded as if she looked interested.

"Nice to meet you, Ryogi!"

Ami responded and Ryogi smiled cheerfully. It's nice to see both of my friends being good at each other already.

"He's new here? I can take him to the admission office"

Ami offered. I can't believe how friendly Ami is. She is willing to help anyone even the ones that she just met a few seconds ago.

"Oh thank you but I can go there alone, plus it's almost time for the first period"

Ryogi explained and smiled back, as we noticed the sun rises at the east of the horizon. I agree, it is almost time.

"Well, okay, suit yourself"

Ami replied and patted Ryogi's left shoulder.

"Well, see you later, Ryogi! I hope we'll be classmates!"

I also patted Ryogi's shoulder while I try to say goodbye at him. Ryogi then again smiled. He likes to smile often and his smile is very cute.

"Okay, see you later, Chieko, Ami!"

As both me and Ami walks farther away from Ryogi, we waved goodbye at each other. It was a very precious significance to have friends. Friends that are true to you, unlike in the 21st Century where fake friends are everywhere, you just don't know who those are.

"Ami, may I ask? What date is it today? I have no freaking idea when it is today since the first day I got here"

As we use the stairs to go to our respective classroom, I let out a question to Ami. She then just chuckled about it.

"It's January 4, 1877"

Ami answered. That is so old! My grandmother was not even born yet in this year! It's no wonder why it feels so cold here. We're in winter season!

"Be prepared though. Something big is coming"

Ami again whispered at my ear that made my heart beat faster. What does she mean by that? What is coming?

"What is it? Why should I be prepared?"

I asked her. But it seems too late for us to continue the conversation as groups of students are passing by.

"Act natural as if we're not timetravellers"

She said and gripped my arm while we're walking towards the classroom.

"Anyways, is that Ryogi your crush?"

She added. Why is this girl so talkative? And why is she asking me that question? I mean he's cute and kind to me but that's just it.

"No he's not my crush but I'm open for it"

I chuckled. Where did I have this strength to say such phrases like that?

"You're so funny. Let's go to our class!"

Ami ended our conversation and went inside our classroom with students sitting on their seats. The students are actually more disciplined in this century than in the present. Most of the students here are kind of grade-conscious as well.

Except for him. I noticed Kaito running from the classroom door, with a serious look. As I look at the ceiling, my mind started to wonder if Ryogi is fine here. I started to feel ashamed for Aunt Naomi. She saved me and all, she tried to act like a mother, I should be studying harder to pay her back on what she is doing.

"Okay, good morning, class. Today we're going to start a new lesson in Music"

Mr. Senoi greeted us. And there is the start of the flow of the day.

-•-

"Everyone, it's class dismiss"

As Mr. Senoi ended the lesson, all the students quietly left the classroom.

"Music subject is so boring, no offense"

Ami appeared from my back while I was organizing my bag.

"It surely is"

I agreed. Music is an art but the subject is just plain boring, especially if you're not good at any musical instruments.

"I forgot you have to tutor Kaito, am I right?"

Ami said as we're walking on the hallway.

"Yup, I am so sorry, we haven't walked to our home together since the beginning"

I pouted my lips and held Ami's palms.

"You don't need to apologize! Just do your best at teaching Kaito!"

She replied and smiled at me.

"See you tomorrow, I guess"

I responded and waved goodbye slightly at her.

"Alright! Goodbye!"

Ami cheerfully replied as she ran away from me while waving goodbye at me. Ami is such a friendly and cheerful lady! She deserves to have a great man.

As soon as Ami was not seen, I decided to look for Kaito so we can start already and go home earlier.

I tried to looked at every part of the school and saw no signs of Kaito. Where could he be? I also didn't see Ryogi. Did they possibly go home already? Kaito shouldn't be going home early because we still have lessons to teach.

I decided to look for him at the back of a building where our classroom is located, maybe he's hiding at me.

As I stepped on the leaves of the trees, it started to snow. My heart beats faster as I saw a guy wearing a black hoodie sitting on the wall of the building with a very long sword held on his right hand. I walked slowly towards the person and asked, even if he's probably in a deep sleep.

"E-excuse me, who are you?"
