Chapter 3 : OPEN THE GATE

Xin Mi don't have a time to explain the whole matter to little Jinghe. She quickly grabbed her hand and run outside.

Xin Mi knew every second passed that they stayed here in school ground would be more dangerous. She remembered how the man jumped from the third floor just to be out of the building. Every building has people in it. And it seems a lot of people turned into a man-eating monster. They need to get out of here.

They were few lucky students who managed to get out of the classrooms. But behind every of them was a group of bloodied students chasing after them.

Xin Mi carried Little Jinghe as she run. Little Jinghe was silent as she took a look at her surroundings. She watched as one of the students who just come out of the building run frantically while holding his shoulders. It seems he come out scratched. But he did not last as he run slower and the figure who was chasing him caught him and pulled him down. The boy screamed in pain as more figure came out to attack him and eat...him.

Little Jinghe's face became paler and her eyes wide. It was the exact expression of Xin Mi's earlier.

She looked around. They were few students and teacher running behind them. Some were wounded. Some unscratched. They all have a looked of terror on their faces.

Xin Mi just a few meters away in the gate. While running she asked Little Jinghe.

"Jinghe- huff- when you saw the guard earlier-huff-, is his face is man-huff-gled?"

"N-o..he lo-ok normal." Little Jinghe stuttered as she was still shocked of what she saw earlier.

"That's-huff- good." Xin Mi was almost out of breath.

"Sister? Wh-at are they? Are they the same as that guy who attacked you?"

"Yeah-huff. That's why-huff- I don't have choice-huff- but to defend and-huff- killed him." Xin Mi said as she pushed the guilt of killing a living being. Regardless of what they become, she knew that's not their choice. They were normal before. But she did not have time to have a funeral for the janitor in her mind because she saw that many people come out of the building and a lot of man-eating monster were coming in all directions.

"Mr.Gate Guard! Open the gate!" Xin Mi shouted as she ran towards the gate.

Mr. Gate Guard was holding his head while making a phone call when he heard a shouting. He was in the guard house beside the gate when the ground shake and he fell asleep. When he woke up there was splitting headache and darkness around. When the lights came out, he tried to call the school office to make sure things were okay. But he did not get a response.

Mr. Gate Guard looked through the window and squinted his eyes through the night. He saw a highschool girl carrying a child in her arms. The girl was shouting. Behind her, a few more students and teachers were running. They were all shouting as well. Behind them, a huge crowd was catching up. He felt strange when he saw the last crowd. For some reason there was fear in his heart. He tried to look for more through the dim light.

"OPEN THE GATE!!!" The girl shouted again.

Mr. Gate Guard pushed the red button in front of him without hesitation. The gate opened slowly. The girl passed him. He remembered she was the girl who came to excuse herself earlier. He come out of the gate house.

"What happened--?" His question came to stop as she noticed the girl's bloody figure.

"There are man-eating monster coming here. You should get out too." After saying that, the girl run like she was running for her life. The little girl in her arms looked at him and pointed behind him.

Mr. Gate guard looked behind. He saw the terror and panic of the students faces. He clearly saw as well what running after them. They were the students, teacher as well. But they were different. Their eyes were souless black. Their mouth stretch out to their face. Their sharp teeths were elongated and clattering. They were like crazed people and they clearly wanted to eat those people in front of them.

Mr. Gate guard stepped back. But quickly changed his mind as he staggered forward and help one of the students who were limping. The students legs were bloody. His flesh and white bone in his left leg were exposed. Without asking, Mr. Gate guard knew those people behind them were the culprit. Mr. Gate guard run fast while he held the man in his shoulders.

They came out of the gate. Mr. Gate guard looked left and right. He knew they will be tired soon and those things will be caught up on them. He wished a car would stop and let them ride. As if sensing his wish. Heavens sent a a school bus and stopped in front of them. The door openened and Mr. Gu, the school driver, shouted at them.

"Come in!"

Mr. Gate guard thanks the heavens as he sat on the bus. The two sisters who run earlier was sitting at the back. A few people caught up on them and ride on the bus. As the last man step in the bus, Xin Mi shouted.

"Drive!"

The crazed crowd just stepped out of the gate and one bloody figure jumped in front as his elongated sharp teeth about to touch the last man's back when Xin Mi kick the bloody figure's face. She pulled the last man's sleeve to her and closed the door. At the exact moment another bloody figure popped out and was blocked by the bus door as the bus started running. It all happened in a few seconds.

The last man was shocked as he barely managed to keep his life. All the passengers stared at Xin Mi. They were starlted as the girl in the back run in front in a second and saved the man.

Xin Mi was equally startled as she acted in instinct. She just felt the man was in danger and if it happened they will be in danger as well. Her body quickly acted before her brain could think.

Well, what more she could think. Her reflexes improved greatly.

Xin Mi started to walk to the back when the last man wake up from the feeling of barely avoiding death.

"Ah..Sia Xin Mi. Thank you for saving me."

Xin Mi looked back.

"You know me?"

"Yeah. Who don't know you? Your very popular in the junior's and senior's grade."

Xin Mi stared at him. Then she gestured to follow her in the back.

The last man sat across from them. He saw little Jinghe and give him a small smile. Little Jinghe curiously looked at him.

"This is my sister Jinghe." Xin Mi said as she patted Jinghe's hair making little Jinghe to frown.

"Yeah. She's famous to." The last man said.

Xin Mi raised her eyebrow.

"You don't know your famous? Your entire family is famous. Your dad and mom was celebrities. Actually, I'm a fan of your dad. I planned to attend to his former University and follow him abroad-"

"What's your name?" Xin Mi cut him off as he began to rattle about her dad and his dream in this situation. (Mind you, they are still not safe and running from those things.)

"Oh sorry. My name is Jay Li. We are in the same grade. Our classroom was beside yours. I am good in computer mechanics. But my hobby is modifying all kinds of weapons. But that's my secret. I haven't touch any true gun yet. Just prototype and samples-"

"Okay. I get it." Xin Mi cut him off again. This boy, Jay Li, was sure a chatter box.

Jay Li scratched his head embarrassingly.

"I'm actually a silent type and introvert. I'm just really nervous and grateful that you saved my life. " Thinking he is about to be eaten by those monsters, Jay Li shuddered.

"It's okay." Xin Mi looked in front and outside the windows.

It was still dark outside but the lamp post make them figure out their surroundings. They were the only car in the road as they were still in the school zone. But Xin Mi was afraid that after this peaceful school zone, Hell zone would be waiting for them.
