Another Experiment

Raiji looked at the hideous smile of his master. He can feel it is scary but genuine. He gave a whimper in frustration. He felt he was the strongest at first, but once enemies started appearing, he was at loss. He was so used to hunts between predator and prey. He was a wolf. These beliefs started crumbling down after he saw his brother tossed something out of his mouth. A person that he needed to protect because he was weak is capable of doing such damage.

Then there is of course, master's first familiar, Pyun-Pyun. That thing was silent, but he knew this creature could not be underestimated. He saw it first hand yesterday, with some of his former teammates. Now it could do similar magic like master. For a slime which was always at the bottom of the food chain along with insects, he could not do anything. These facts are hard to understand plus the fact that he suggested to be a familiar but turned out to be useless. In fact, he wished that he had gained some skills like his brother. That is why he is frustrated. He is frustrated with most of him being helpless in this crucial time.

"You did not do anything wrong. Don't be disappointed. For now, just listen." Ryuji was moving his palms on the ground. He was actually manipulating the walls of the mound. He turned to Fuji. "Since you have , why don't you narrate to your elder brother what is happening."

"Yes master." Fuji lowered his head. He could sense his brother's emotions. He was anxious ever since the fight started. He does have an idea in his mind but rather not speak about it. He thought that it would be best that their master spoke to him first.

Signing the familiar contract earlier, he was reminded of newly hired employees. The performance of the wolves reminded him of first week or month activities. Over the course of working as a project manager in his previous life and paired with various odd jobs that he had prior, he is either asked to do things right away or observe things first. He found out that observing things first has much better performance in the long run than jumping into work right away. Jumping things have a higher chance of committing mistakes and may hurt the team's performance. Though there is no outline of job responsibilities at the moment, he would treat them as employees for his day-to-day activities because it's better to utilize free labor. Afterall, having people work for you is a precious resource especially in his second life.

Ryuji dispersed his thoughts for now and concentrated on the urgent issue at hand which is the trapped red slime and the snake woman. He was thinking of spiking these two troublemakers. Based on the conversation of the two, something was stolen from the snake woman by the deep red slime. He was not a hundred percent sure, but he has a hunch that this might be the item that the loli goddess asked her. He was hoping that they have it so he can spend his time discovering things rather than running errands and requests by the gods or some monarch. To be fair, when put in a fantasy world, it would be best to check out what the world has to offer.

With this in mind, he was already thinking of an attack that he can do. The dome posed a challenge of what spell to use, it had the advantage to keep his enemies in one place, but the problem is the spells that he can use to attack them without seeing them. He has yet to digest things from the simple instruction book or rather scrolls that Yubis gave him. The only plausible spell to use right now is . It is similar to hitting a target using a blindfold and these targets would be moving. The only aid is to predict those movements. He needs to maintain that one so he can sense his targets. Though he needs to reinforce every now and then since the enemies will try to get out of the mound.

"Fuji, did you sense the things inside?" Ryuji asked.

"Yes master!" Fuji replied. He was maintaining the mana sense. It was already a good thing that Fuji can do something to the extent of his despite being his first try.

Ryuji started casting his earth spike as he moved his palms to attempt to have the mana flow to cast to the target area. He wanted to push the ground for every spike, he recalled a western cartoon when he was alive about elementalists that have moves and the element that they are affiliated moves accordingly (1). He can only imagine what is inside and his success for this experiment attack. Then he started to pound the ground.

Ryuji bent his elbows and looked like he suddenly jerked his arm, but it looked like he jerked his upper body instead. It looked weird as if he had lost his mind, but he was mimicking as if he was creating some sort of traction to his actions. He fills his palms with mana and then once he pounds it on the ground, he creates a corresponding spike inside the hollow part of the mound. In a nutshell, he pounds the earth and then a spike appears on the area he wished to. He then asked the younger wolf brother, he had to rely with the from another creature. He had only two hands that he could use. "Fuji what do you see?"

Fuji noticed the first attack it indeed created inside the mound. He had already distinguished the mana flowing and the mana inside the mound. The dense mana forms some circular pattern in Fuji's senses which would be the slimes. The bigger denser the mana on an area would signify the either a power of a creature or an object. The slimes have some uniform mana signature on the senses which showed five circular figures. Then there is a dense mana mixed with something else, probably the leader of the slimes. Then another dense one but with a very faint mix. When the goblin jerked his hand while his palms on the ground, he saw the flow of mana into some thin cone shape in the area. The dense figures moved away from the movement. The younger wolf could not help uttering the word "Amazing." He started to use magic today, he was practically giddy as a new world unfolded right in front of his eyes and the fact that he could use one, it made him happy.

Raiji was surprised with the move. His master is weird. He wanted to tell his brother but before he could speak, his brother mumbled. "Amazing."

Raiji's frustrations did not go away with his inability to act and failed to adhere to his master's command. However, given that they have a weird master which is acting mad as he likes to try to press the earth and remembering the healing spell that cured his brother, he could not help but put his faith with his master. His instinct is reminding him that this weird goblin is his master and not to be trifled with. But hearing this comment from his brother also piqued his curiosity and raised his envy for a bit.

"Huh? Tell me what happened." Ryuji was preparing another release of . He needed some sort of confirmation.

"Ah! I can feel the dense mana parts moved around after you pushed the mana inside the mound."

"Uh… I pushed the mana inside? That's probably . So… did they react? Did I get anyone?" Ryuji asked with a barrage of questions. He needs to know where they are so he can end this.

"Ah! Your attack… they evaded it." Fuji replied got flustered with the barrage of questions. He was too caught up with admiration and forgot to answer his master.

"Ok. Concentrate on where they are at and tell me if they moved. We need to end this so we can eat dinner." Ryuji was determined to end the battle. He is a bit tired and hungry.

The next few moments he continuously pounded the ground sending the necessary spikes to the area that Fuji pointed out. Raiji listened to his brother and observed their master who was acting like he had lost it by pounding the ground consecutively. Pyun-Pyun was still maintaining the as he stood still at the side. As the earth was pounded, more spikes were sent to the hollow area of the mound making the space smaller for the creatures caught in the mound. It took several spikes to take out the five dense mana and it dispersed. Fuji can actually sense that the two remaining dense mana signatures that had mixed have been moving slower and slower. The weaker of the two was moving sluggish at one point but it only moved around in a certain area underneath the mound as more while the powerful one had been at the opposite area and had almost not moved for a few minutes.

"How dare you!!!" The baritone voice resounded again within the area.

"Oh, shit! He got out."
