The tournament ch. 9

The Last preparations for the tournament were about to end, and alex got really nervous. Just an hour from now the first fights would start. He was confident in his abilities but still the pressure that he was feeling was just to big. Losing could destroy his entire sect. With those thoughts in his head he didn't dare to look down on his opponents.

Time flashed by quickly and the first fights began. 10 fights would be held simultaneously in the tournament. Alex wasn't one of the first participants and watched the disciples of the other sects fight. His master told him that the first rounds of the tournament were the most brutal ones because no one wanted to be the last.

And Alex could quickly see this, the people on the stage actually fought with killing intent. It was forbidden to kill in the tournament, but a lot of participants didn't care about that. Because the shame of getting last was way more threatening than any punishment could be. And a lot of sects also punished their disciples if they did bad in the tournament.

In Alex's eyes this was just sad, those participants of the tournament were 12 or 13 and here they tried to kill each other like it's natural. Obviously they wouldn't dare to kill in the tournament if there wasn't a loophole that let them avoid punishment. If the murder was seen as accident then it wouldn't be punished.

This rule existed because in a tournament were people fought seriously with lethal weapons and techniques it was rather easy to die. So as long as you don't kill a participant that's way weaker or unable to fight you wouldn't get a harsh punishment.

The fights all came to an end and most fights went as expected, with the sects winning that had a high position. Only one fight had a different outcome then everyone expected and that was the fight between the frost spear sect and the Freezing sword sect.

The second strongest of the Freezing sword sect was fighting so everyone was expecting a victory, but he actually lost in the first round. It was a huge blow to the Freezing sword sect. And the disciple of the frost spear sect actually won without getting a scratch.

Alex was very confused about this scenario, the frost spear sect was normally a rather weak sect. And especially since the sect didn't have this weird fighting style that the disciple of the frost spear sect used. Or rather you could say the frost spear sect won using the fighting style of the Freezing sword sect just with a spear.

Obviously Alex wasn't the only one who noticed that, and the Freezing sword sect looked with hatred at the frost spear sect. Stealing a technique of another sect was a huge deal and after this tournament was over a war between the frost spear sect and the Freezing sword sect would probably start.

The frost spear sect wasn't very big and had only 3 participants this year. Compared to the Freezing sword sect who participated with over 20 disciples it was not really a lot. And the sect master of the frost spear sect was also not known for being strong. So everyone was confused about why the frost spear sect would dare to steal a technique.

But everyone knew that the Freezing sword sect couldn't act before the tournament ended. Because the tournament always had an elder of the Ice Phoenix sect as visitor. No one would dare to make trouble in front of this elder. So the tournament continued and Alex was chosen to participate in the next round.
