Season 1 Chapter 5 - Adriana

Linggo Oktobre 14, 2018 (11:05 AM)

They were shopping for groceries after church. Adriana still felt sleepy, still thinking about the fiasco last night. Cass was mortified, but the rest just shrugged them off knowing how bitchy the girls were and they probably said something to Sam... or to them.

"I have something to tell you." Hans said, looking at some canned food.

She looked at him, suddenly feeling uneasy. "What?"

"Well, Brendan asked if he can go with us at the staycation and I... said yes."

"Why? You didn't even consult me." She asked a bit disappointed.

"C'mon Adriana, he's your friend too." He pointed out.

"You told me it'll just be the two of us."

"Yeah, but I'm worried about Brendan. He spends his entire day playing DOTA, barely getting any sunshine." He reasoned. "I promise we'll have time together. Besides, it's a two-room house with a pool."

She just shrugged. "Okay."

Hans was unconvinced with her answer. He just put his arm around her as they walked the aisle. Hans seemed to care more about Brendan rather than her, and she hates it. He was his bestfriend, but she was the girlfriend, and somehow, she was lacking the attention recently.

Hans opened the fridge and took out a few bottles of beers.

"Aren't you drinking too much?" She asked.

"It's for the staycation." He replied. "Brendan wants some beers."

She sighed. "If Brendan told you to jump off a cliff with him, would you do it?"

He looked at her. "Okay, where did that came from?"

"You seemed to care about what Brendan wants more than what I want!" She answered angrily.

"No, I don't! He just requested this for himself!"

"Oh, so you just expect that Brendan's just going to drink all by himself?"

"You can drink too if you want!"

"Hans." She looked at him in the eyes. "I don't drink."

Before Hans could even speak, they realized how loud they were and people were looking at them. Hans then returned the beers back to the fridge.

"Okay." He said as they headed to the counter. "No beers."

"You know you can't ignore me forever." Hans said, glancing at her.

They were driving to her house, but the ride was quiet ever since they left the mall. Hans just sighed when she paid no response. She just stared at the window, watching as they stopped at the intersection. He took the opportunity to open his Spotify, and their proclaimed theme song started playing.

Di ko maintindihan ang nilalaman ng puso...¹

She looked at him as he sang along, drumming the steering wheel with his fingers. She reached out to his phone to turn off the music but he brushed off her hand. They looked at each other and started playfully fighting for his phone.

"C'mon, you can do better than that." He said.

"Damn it, Hans." She said laughingly. "I'm mad at you!"

When he managed to get hold of her hands, he kissed her and suddenly it was all magic. Their lips parted, and he found her unable to contain her smile.

"I'm sorry, okay?"

"It's fine, really." She said. "I know Brendan's like a little brother to you."

"An annoying one." He added, he then held her hand. "I promise I'll make it up to you again."

"You always say that."

"And I won't get tired of saying this: I love you." He pulled her over for a kiss.

And once again, she found herself defeated from Hans' constant promises. She liked it though, and she couldn't get enough. Just as their lips parted, the car behind them honked and they just realized that the traffic light went green now. Laughing, Hans continued driving as she leaned her head on the window and watched the rain pour down Quezon City.

They decided that Hans will be the goalkeeper, something that didn't sit well with him. He wasn't wearing his gloried Bayern Munich shirt today and had to wear a plain white shirt. Still, he kept that positive smile despite the wounded pride as he'd always liked being a striker.

"I'm pretty sure this is only for a while." She tried to cheer him up,

"Yeah, until the year ends probably." He said frustratingly. "Aren't you gonna go home? We're just gonna start the second half, game might end at 6."

"No, I can wait for you." She replied, then looking at the girls at the upper bleachers who waved at them. "I have the girls with me."

"Did you join a sorority?"

"No, we're not a sorority." She already expected the question.

"Okay, as long as you have friends." He said as the whistle blew. "Well, off I go now. Later!"

"Good luck!"

She sat with the girls as the game started, noticing Sam's still absent from the group. "Hey, where's Sam?"

"I didn't tell her where we are 'cos I'm about to kick her out." Cass replied casually.

"What?!" The three said in unison.

"Girls, she made us look like warfreaks back at Eric's party. I had to explain to the dance troupe that we're not like her." Cass explained.

"Well, did you ask her why she did it?" Sarah asked.

Cass shook her head.

"You just can't kick someone out without knowing their side." Sarah pointed out.

"Yeah, we're a democratic group." Lyka added. "Maybe she got revenge for you because I told her Evelyn said you have pork legs."

Cass gasped. "Lyka, can you stop telling people stuff about me?"

"Well, it's true." Lyka said.

Their phones beeped at the same time when Sam sent a message to their group chat.

Samira sent a photo.

Samira: where r u guys

Samira: any of you free this saturday? my brother got extra tickets for EK.

"Oh, I'd love to!" Lyka said. "Please, Cass, please."

"Well... I don't know." Cass said, obviously prejudiced. "Our page already have loads of contents for this week."

"Yeah, and by contents you mean half of your selfies." Sarah said.

"Okay, fine." Cass said. "Only if she doesn't attack anyone anymore. Everyone good here?"

"I can't." Adriana shook her head. "Hans and I, we're going on a staycation this weekend."

"Bummer." Cass said. "Well, Javier can get your ticket."

"No!" Sarah blurted out. "I mean... he's not part of our squad. Also, isn't he graduating? He's probably busy with his thesis."

Cass sighed. "You're right, and he's also a very secretive person and doesn't want anyone to know what he's doing."

Cass giggled a bit. "But, I'm excited to tell you guys that he's starting to like me."

They gasped.

"No way." Lyka said. "Sana all²."

"Oh God, spare me the details please." Sarah begged.

"But just quiet, guys." Cass said, excitingly. Suddenly, there was commotion in the field.

Hans was lying down on the ground for a brief moment, holding his face with the ball next to him. The trainer rushed to him, inspecting his face and finding a bloodied nose. Standing up, he left the field and passed by the bleachers. Running, Adriana called him, but he just kept walking away.

They stayed at the convenience store near where Brendan was playing online. She looked at his nose and the bleeding seemed to stop, but his nose was a bit purplish. Hans placed an ice packed towel on it as they ate some chips.

"I think you're being bullied." She started.

Sighing, he retorted. "No, I'm not."

"Hans, I know what bullying is. There are tons of orgs here that you can join, but not this one." She reasoned. "Just look at what they did to you."

"I got punished for leaving early last time, okay?" He said, a bit angrily. "Well, that's what I think."

"You should just leave if you feel like you're getting bullied." She suggested.

"No, I'm not being bullied." He insisted. "I'm also not leaving."

"Hans, just because your dad-"

"God, stop bringing my dad in to this!" He interjected. "Why are you even this concerned?"

That ticked her. "Because I'm your girlfriend!"

"Hey!" Brendan called as he approached them. "Woah, what happened? Sat on his face for too long?"

"Gago³." Hans said, raising his middle finger.

Brendan sat between them, giving her some space that she wanted for now. She noticed how Hans' mood suddenly changed when Brendan's around, almost as if they didn't have an argument. Brendan then opened his wallet, revealing several hundred-peso bills.

"Guess who won the DOTA match?"

"No way! Congrats!"

The two began talking about online games and football, making her feel out of place and ignored at the same time. Brendan noticed how quiet she was and nudged Hans. Sighing, he put his arm around her.

"I'm sorry, okay?" He said, snuggling closer to her. "I'll think of it if I'll leave the org. Just give me some time."

"It's already seven minutes past our lunch." One of their classmates whispered as Marcel still kept on discussing. "Someone do something."

"Sssh, we're already finished with the chapter." Sarah hushed, looking at Adriana who's already slouched to her seat and half awake. "Adriana?"

"Yeah-"

"Yes, Ms. Villar." Marcel said. "To make up your recitation earlier, can you use any tense of the verb etre describing what you feel at the moment?"

She stood up. "Um... je... je suis faim?"

"No, you don't use etre with faim, you use avoir so it should be j'ai faim." He corrected, then realizing the time. "Oh, sorry, I got carried too much. Class dismissed, a demain!"

"A demain, monsieur. Merci." They all said in unison as they packed their bags.

She approached Marcel, a bit nervous from her earlier answer. "Um... sir?"

"Yes?"

"Is that really a graded recitation?"

Marcel sighed. "Yes, Adriana."

"Am I..."

"No, but you will be if you don't fix your grades before the semester ends." He said, already expecting her question. "If you need additional tutoring you can always reach me out at my faculty at Tuesdays 5 pm. Okay?"

"Okay, sir. Thank you."

She left the room just in time to see Sarah with the girls.

"Hey, what's up?"

"We have a major problem." Cass took a deep breath. "Javier wants to have sex with me, and we're gonna do it at Sunday."

Sarah was holding her head in dismay.

"And the problem is?" Sam crossed her arms.

Cass took a deep breath again. "Does any of you have any pills?"

It was an awkward convo, but the girls just shook their heads.

"Or an IUD at least? Can I buy one from Shopee or Lazada? I have coupons."

"Girl, just spit or swallow." Lyka suggested laughingly.

"What?"

"Can he not just use a condom?" Sam rolled her eyes.

"Well, he does but it doesn't have any flavor." Cass said, making the conversation more awkward. She then looked at her. "Adriana, you guys do it, right? Do you have a spare flavored one?"

She was taken aback. "Um... no? I mean, it's so awkward to ask Hans for that."

"Just buy one from the 711 outside campus." Sarah said, dreading to end the conversation.

"Can you guys come with me please?" Cass begged. "It'll be so awkward if I go there alone."

"No, it'll be less awkward if you go there alone." Sarah said.

Cass then looked at all of them pleadingly. "Please?"

"Okay, fine! We'll go."

Myerkules Oktobre 17, 2018 (1:48 PM)

Cass immediately went to the counter the moment they entered. She looked at the rows of flavored condoms, still embarrassed from buying one. The cashier looked at them boringly, yawning as Cass started comparing flavors.

"Um... which of these do you think tastes better?" Cass asked them. "Strawberry or orange?"

Lyka shrugged. "Never used one."

"I'm still a virgin, sorry." Sarah replied.

"Adriana, what does Hans use?"

"Cass, stop..." She replied, then suddenly remembering something. "Oh, shit... I forgot to chat Hans."

She opened her phone just in time to see Hans' chats.

Hans: hey, here na

Hans: where are you

Hans: i thought we're gonna have lunch together...

"Excuse me." Sam said as she went to the counter, carrying a large slurpee.

Adriana: hey sorry i forgot to chat you. we're at 711, just helping cass buy things

Hans sent a sticker

"Can I help you guys with anything?" The cashier finally asked, looking at Cass and her condom dilemma. "I recommend strawberry."

"Well, strawberry it is." Cass said, choosing the red box. "Thanks."

"First time?" The cashier asked as she scanned it.

"Umm... yeah."

"Oh, you're gonna bleed so bad." The cashier laughed a bit. "Don't worry, it's not like you're gonna die or something from bleeding. My friend though, she went 50/50 from heavy bleeding."

Cass seemed terrified from the thought. "Because she had sex for the first time?"

"No, she slipped during shower sex." The cashier answered seriously. "Anyways, that'll be fifty pesos."

"Oh." Was all Cass could say as she paid.

Sam breathed a sigh of relief. "Finally, we're done."

"Can you... show me how to put it?" Cass asked, getting a facepalm from Sam.

"This isn't part of my job but... whatever." The cashier sighed, she took a banana from the fruit basket and began putting the condom on it. Cass watched in amusement as it stretched all the way to the half. "There, once it's on, you can proceed to su-"

"I think that's all, thank you." Sarah interjected.

"Okay." The cashier said, scanning the banana and putting it on the paper bag with the condom. "It'll be twelve pesos for the banana."
