Chapter two : Lucifer

Great. What the heck was happening today? First that stupid guy who was roaming around frivolously opening the items and placing them back on the shelves, spilled the soda he'd picked up from the shelf all over my suit. And now this one. I looked down at the girl in front of me. She had her head down and I could not see her face, but that didn't do any good for my anger, "What is that you need? Is this place really full of idiots?" I shouted. The girl didn't move but I did sense the other one running away. I'll get to him later, for now this one would have to bear the brunt. "What? Can't speak? The one you wanted to help just ran away."

"I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. Please forgive him." She said, her head still down.

"Forgive him? You must be joking. Well your fellow colleague was doing something that could cost the reputation of this chain. But how would you understand. You're just the same. Running behind the riches, waiting to claw at them. Pathetic."

"Take back what you said." It was almost a whisper from her.

"What?" I cocked an eyebrow.

"I said take back what you said you imbecile." She looked up at me, her big green eyes fixed at me, burning with rage. "You are the one pathetic here. Just because we don't have enough money like you do, doesn't make us lowly." She said, her voice was not loud but was laced with anger.

Nobody had spoken to me that way. Nobody. But this little girl here, dared to do that. I liked her courage. I smiled at her, "Oh dear. You have some guts, don't you?"

"Excuse me?" She narrowed her eyes.

Before I could say anything, the idiot came in, Nash. "Lucifer. Where have you been? I've been waiting for you." He came up to me and put his arm over my shoulder.

"Nothing. Just having some chat with your employee." I smirked and looked at the girl, she was still standing there, her eyes fixed on me.

"Let's go. Matt will handle it." He turned me around and we started to walking back to his office.

I sat back on the chair while Nash stood in front of me. "You actually didn't tell me? Your childhood best friend that you were returning today. Seriously how could you do this?" He fake cried. I let out a frustrated sigh, I really didn't understand why I'd been putting up with his shit since childhood. "Look I'm tired and jet lagged but I came all the way here to meet you. Isn't that enough?" I said.

"Okay I forgive you." He smiled and wiggled his eyebrows, "How did France treat you?"

"Good. Pleasantly good." I exclaimed.

"Found anyone special?" He smirked.

Special? Certainly I did, but not in France rather right here in my hometown. That girl. She could've eaten me alive with that look if she could. She was different, intriguing. She was the first one in years to spike my interest. "That girl, who was she?" I asked.

"Which girl?" Nash said taking a seat in front of me.

"The one standing there when you came to get me."

"How am I supposed to know? I just came for an inspection today. Wait a minute. Why are you asking about a girl?" He quirked his eyebrow.

"Don't know," I shrugged, "so can you or can you not get her here? Now."

He smirked at me and and picked up the receiver on his table. Being with me for years he was well aware of the way I was. If something peeked my interest then there was no going back. That thing becomes mine. And mine only.

"Matt will look for her and send her over." He put down the receiver. "So then let's talk about your stay in France." He leaned in his chair.

He went on for a few minutes, maybe. I don't remember exactly, my mind was too engrossed thinking about her. She was so much smaller than me, the top of her head barely reached my shoulder for god's sake. Her big green eyes were locked on me and damn I'd be lying saying I didn't feel anything. Her lips, it seemed they just demanded mine on them. But she was something not to be messed with, that's what her attitude spoke. "Hey Lucifer. You hearing me?" Nash brought me back.

"Yeah. You were saying?" I said. He was interrupted by a knock on the door. "Looks like she's here." He announced.

"I want to be alone with her." I got up from my chair. Nash stopped in his tracks for a second and then smiled, "Okay, but watch yourself," he opened the door and stepped out. Seconds later the door opened again and she stepped in. The door closed behind her but she just stood there. "Well you can have a seat if you want." I said. She moved to a chair and sat down, I took a seat on the one across hers.

She was looking everywhere but me and I needed her eyes on me. And on me alone. "What's your name?"

"Peyton." She said, her beautiful voice strong. But knew she was lying. Never mind, I could tag alone if she wanted that. "So Peyton how long have you been working here?"

"A few months."

"Be precise." I said. She shifted in her seat, "Three."

"But your record says it's five?" You're getting caught, baby.

She looked at me with those eyes, and took a deep breath, "My name is not Peyton and as for my real name I don't think you deserve it,"

Interesting.

"What happened back then wasn't my fault. And if you think I'll apologize, you're wrong. I will not. I just came to know about what that guy was doing. He was wrong and he got fired. But what you did was wrong too. You were too blunt and rude."

"So you're saying, pointing out his mistake was wrong?"

"No. The way you did it was wrong." She said.

I looked at her, completely fascinated. She was a spitfire but could be calm if the situation demanded. My girl is perfect, just as I thought. "So what do you do?"

"Doesn't concern you." She shrugged.

It made me smile, "Well I at least deserve your name. Don't I?"

"No you don't. You were born in a place where each of your whims were accepted, but I am sorry the real world doesn't work like that–"

Born into wealth? Oh no don't go there sweetheart, I warn you.

"You think just because you have power you will get everything you want. Well guess what, you are wrong. You have no idea how hard I, rather all of the people who weren't born into money have to work to earn a living. But I guess it's useless telling you that, you will never understand. Step out of your glowing world and look around yourself, if you have the brains you'll understand what I said." She rolled her eyes.

Big mistake.

I stood up from my seat and moved across the table to hers, she is visibly uncomfortable when I approach her. You asked for it sweetheart. I placed my hands on the armrests of her chair, caging her in. "You better watch that little mouth of yours, it might get you in trouble someday." I leaned close enough to whisper these words in her ear. She froze under me. I moved my face down, my nose gently brushing against her soft skin. She smelled so sweet and fresh.

I felt her hands come up to my chest and before I could comprehend, she pushed me away with all her strength. I stepped back a little, giving her enough space to get up. "Stay away you freak!" She shouted and stormed out of the room.

I stood in the middle of the room, taking in everything and a smile crossed my face. Mine. Is what crosses my mind. You cannot run away from me. Not ever.

Nash came in again, "What did you do? She looked pissed man." He asked.

"I didn't do anything. Not something that would harm your company. So don't worry. I'll go now, I have some important work to do." I made my way out of the office. I took out my phone and made a phone call, "I want you to dig up some information about a person. And I want it quick." I spoke out all the details about her, and that name Peyton and hang up.

We'll be meeting real soon sweetheart, just you wait.
