Adler opened the door his suite and stepped aside, motioning for me to get in. I gripped the strap of my bag and went inside, he followed suit and closed the door behind.
Calling this thing suite was an understatement. It had a warm colour scheme with light beige walls, the living room had a long black leather couch and a huge flat screen on the wall. It lead down to two halls on either sides and a huge open kitchen, which evidently had the latest equipments. As I turned my head, my eyes fell on the huge patio outside.
"Feel free to explore," Adler said looking down at me.
I moved toward the balcony, cool air hit me as soon as I opened the sliding doors. The patio was huge, with a seating area and a jacuzzi. Yes a freaking jacuzzi under the open sky, with a killer city skyline view. From the corner of my eye I saw Adler approaching, he leaned against the doorframe his eyes strained on me. "It's really beautiful," I turned to him.
"Yes it is," he smiled, his eyes still on me. I shifted in my place. This was getting awkward and I could feel the thick air and then the doorbell rang.
"I'll get that," he said and left and I finally relaxed. Looks like it was going to be one long night.
I stayed at the patio, looking at the city view when I heard Adler shout and I jumped. Damn this man, what's wrong with him now? I walked to the door and I saw someone heading toward it. "Everly? So it's you. You're the one he's hiding." It was Nash.
"Get out of here," Adler barked following him.
"Let me meet Everly first. So how come you're here little one?" He asked. Before I could answer, Adler interrupted, "Does it really concern you?"
"Yes of course it does. I mean you're my best friend, I'm supposed to know everything about you." Nash put his hands on Adler's shoulders and then turned to me, "So Everly?"
"Uhm, I..." I stammered.
"Okay never mind. Now I'll leave before I get myself killed. Good night Everly. Good night Lucifer." He wiggled his eyebrows at him and then he left.
That was fast. But what the heck was that anyway? It seemed he enjoyed getting under Adler's, no Lucifer's. Wait what was his name? Was Adler his fake name?
"Can I ask you something?" I looked at him.
"Go ahead." He said as he made his way back inside. I followed him, "Why does he keep calling you Lucifer?" He handed me a glass of water which I took.
"Because that's my name," he shrugged.
"Then what about Adler?"
"Lucifer Conrad Adler, that's my name." He sipped the water.
"Lucifer as in the devil?" I asked.
"No Lucifer as in the light bringer, at least that's what my parents thought, I think." He smirked.
I smiled at his reply, "So what am I supposed to call you?"
"Anything you like," he winked at me and something inside me fluttered, I guessed, but I recovered.
"So what do you want eat?"
"No, I'm good," And that should've been the end of discussion but my traitorous stomach let out growl. His brows shot up and he smirked, "Looks like a different story to me." And I flushed. Out of all the time why did this happen right now? Today really wasn't my day.
"Could you please tell me my room?" I asked looking for an escape.
"It's the second room down that hall," he nodded toward one of the hall and I hurried there.
I slammed the door shut and leaned against the door, taking a deep breath I calmed myself. Okay, I'm supposed to be here only for a night, just one night and then I'd be gone. And I could do that, I could easily spend a night with a man. 'A man you barely know Everly' spoke my conscience. But I did know him, I mean I'd met him, like five times and he also helped me thrice and–. "Oh no why did I even agree on coming here with him." I muttered and held my head in my hands. I actually stood out like a sore thumb down in the lobby. When I agreed I knew the hotel he would be staying at would be expensive and beautiful. But when I actually saw it, it blew my mind, the hotel was nothing short of extravagant and it was huge, I mean it had a freaking chandelier in the lobby.
A knock at the door broke my train of thoughts. I straightened myself and then smoothened my clothes, taking a deep breath I opened the door. Adler, no Lucifer stood there, "You forgot this outside," he handed my duffle bag to me. I muttered a thank you and took it from him. And then I did the stupidest thing ever, not waiting for his reply I slammed the door at his face.
I stepped back realising what I had done. "That was rude Everly," I hissed at myself. And then I did another stupid thing, I opened the door again. Lucifer still stood there with a confused look but before he could say anything, I blurted, "I am really sorry, I didn't mean to do that. I don't know what happened, I just, you know. I..." What was wrong with me, why was I losing my mind all of a sudden. I'd always been confident around everyone but in front of this man it just vanished, and I became a stumbling, nervous mess. It was all his fault.
I felt a hand on my head and I looked up, Lucifer was smiling down at me, his perfect teeth on full display and that's when I noticed he had dimples. He ruffled my hair, "It's okay, there's nothing for you to be nervous about. I just came to tell you dinner would be here shortly, so just freshen up. Okay?"
I was at a loss of words so I nodded. He patted my head and then walked away all the way my eyes fixed on him. I shook my head and then headed back inside the room, locking the door I made my way inside the bathroom. A cold shower was the only way to get my thoughts in order.
After the shower I got into my most presentable night attire, a pair of black sweatpants and a graphic T-Shirt. I rummaged through my duffle bag looking for my slippers and I cursed realising I had left them behind at the motel, I sighed and slumped on the bed. Now what was I supposed to wear, it was already getting cold. I just cursed my luck and made my way outside barefoot.
As I reached the living room, Lucifer was nowhere and I guessed he'd still be in his room. I sat on the couch for some time and then made my way out on the patio. It was really my favourite part. I stood at the railing looking down at the bustling city. The lights from the skyscrapers lighting up the dark night. I stood there for a moment and let the cool breeze blow my hair. It felt serene. A growl from my stomach broke the silence and I sighed. I hadn't eaten anything since morning and when I was supposed to get some snacks, Scarlet had drawn me out with her. I felt a chill rise up in my spine remembering today's incident. What happened there was unbelievable. It brought back my most unpleasant memories but surprisingly they went back soon enough this time. And then my stupid, stupid mind wandered to the person who might've been the reason. I shook my head and stepped away from the railing, Lucifer still hadn't come out.
Walking around I came to a halt at the jacuzzi. It was big enough to accommodate at least twenty people inside of it and still could offer a little space. It was on a raised platform and being at my level, I couldn't get a full view. I looked around and found the steps on the other side, climbing them up I stood at the edge looking down at the presently empty surface.
"What are you doing?" I jumped at the sudden voice and lost my footing. An arm wrapped around my waist just as I was about to land onto the surface head first.
My heart was racing, I turned my head and saw Lucifer, then I looked down at the brawny arm that was wrapped around my waist. Before I uttered something, he picked me up from the edge like I weighed nothing and put me down on my feet. He pulled me closer, my back to his front, I gasped and my hands clutched onto his arm.
I felt that same fluttering feeling from earlier but this time it was on full force and refused to go away. With my heart beating against my chest I closed my eyes and my grip on his arm tightened. If it was a dream I really wanted to wake up from it. Now.
