The Great Wall

I saw a 30 or so years old woman with glasses at the registration counter. 


"Miss Melaine, can you register this shrimp here as an adventurer. Here is the registration fee". 


Val handed over 2 silver coins to Miss Meliane.


"Sure Val. Can you fill up this form? I just need some basic information. We will use this Identifier tool to get the rest of the information."


I looked at the form and then looked up at Val


"I know how to read a bit but I never learned to write that well…."


"Fine, fine... lets see, name, address and place of birth.


I told her the information and she handed the form back to Miss Melaine.


"Please put your hand on this device and keep it there until I say it's ok to remove it"


She then placed a semi spherical object with a flat bottom in front of me. I placed my hand on top of it and the object started to glow. It was red at first and then start to become greener until finally it was fully green. After staying green for a few seconds, it stopped glowing all together.


Miss Melaine retrieve the object back and looked at its bottom. She then started noting down information on the bottom section of the form.


"According to the Identifier, you are 17 years and 1 month old. Your physical strength is 2, agility is 5 and your magic is 1. You aptitude for professions involving strength is low and professions involving speed is moderate. You also have low aptitude for magic based professions. I would say you should focus on developing your speed and you might do well as a scout in a party"


Before I could replay, Val started shouting "You really are 17! But you are so small! I have never seen such a small 17 year old"


I didn't know how to respond. Now that she was saying this in front of yet another person, I was even more humiliated. All I could do it look down.


"You are exaggerating Val. He is not that small. You should not compare everyone with you. It's just that you are too big."


"Can you come over here Miss Melaine? You can see for yourself how small he is!" 


Miss Melaine sighed and got up to come over. As she walked over, I realized that she too was much taller than me! Is everyone in guild really tall? Or is Val right and I am just that short.


Ms. Melaine looked me up and down and said "He is small for a man but he should be around an average woman's height… maybe a bit on the shorter side. But he is not tiny. He just looks smaller than he is because he is also skinny. After eating well for a month, he shouldn't look tiny to you anymore"


Ms. Melaine was almost a head taller than me and it seemed obvious to me that she was just trying to not hurt my feelings. She was probably bit taller than an average woman which meant there was no way I was only a bit shorter than an average woman. 4'10 was short even for women. She seemed to be around 5'6" herself!


After saying what she had to say she returned to her seat. Val started dragging me back to Janet and again I was completely helpless. Just how strong is this woman?
