It was evening already and the sun was about to set. We reached the guild soon and it just as busy as yesterday. We went to the counter and I didn't see the same guild staff as yesterday. This time there was another woman behind the counter named Theresa.
I opened my mouth to speak but Elsie spoke ahead of me.
"Hello. We need to pass a message to guild master."
"Oh? What's the message?"
"She and other people left to look for Ren yesterday. He has already returned on his own." She said while raising my hand up.
Miss Theresa quickly stood up and came over. She was taller than Elsie, probably around Cleo's height. She had a grim expression on her face as she towered over me.
"I am sorry but we need to confine you until the guild master returns. Please come with me."
Suddenly she grabbed my arm and started dragging me towards the stairs. But Elsie grabbed her arm quickly and stopped her.
"What are you doing? You can't take away little Ren! What did he do?"
"I received my orders from the guild master. She asked me to confine Ren if he comes back on his own. Now please let go of my arm."
"But why? I… I will also go with him then."
"I can't let you stay with him. Guild master asked me to keep him isolated." replied Theresa.
Elsie looked at me with helplessness. I didn't know what to do either. There was no point in resisting. If I tried, I might even be expelled from the guild.
"I will go with her Elsie. Don't worry about me. This will be cleared up soon." I tried to comfort her.
Elsie just nodded her head mutely and Theresa started dragging me upstairs again. I didn't know why she was being so rough when I was willing to come voluntarily.
Theresa took me to a room with little bit of furniture. It didn't seem like it was built to confine people. Maybe some kind of room for guests to stay? Theresa hadn't loosened her strong grip on my arm the whole way but finally she let go of my arm. I rubbed my arm where Theresa had gripped it. She was not a gentle woman.
Theresa saw what I was doing and her expression softened a bit. She was about to say something when she suddenly closed her mouth and hardened her expression again.
"You will need to stay here until the guild master comes. Ring this bell if you need something. I will lock the door once I leave."
I nodded my head and looked at the bell curiously. The bell didn't seem anything special. How will she hear it even if I rang it? Maybe I need to ring it hard?
Once Theresa saw that I understood, she handed me the bell looked at me once more and then left the room. I heard her locking the door and I checked to see if it was really locked. The windows in the room didn't seem like they were locked though. Couldn't I just escape from there if I wanted? I looked out the window and saw that it was a straight fall down. There was no I could get out from there without breaking my legs.
I sat down on the chair perplexed. Why was I being confined? As far as I knew, I had nothing to warrant this kind of hostile treatment. If I had done something against the law, I should have been handed over to the guards. But they had let me through the gates after seeing my guild card. Did that mean that the guild master had not informed the the City guard to confine me? Maybe there was still some hope.
There was a small bed in the room, so I decided to take a nap. I was exhausted after walking and training all day and I had nothing to do here anyway. I jumped on the bed and fell asleep very soon.
