Xiao Mei

Xiong Zhi entered the car. The driver looked at her in the mirror and waited.

Waited for what? For their next destination.

As expected, Xiong Zhi took off her cap and said.

"Funggen City, Zongyang Law Firm."

The driver started the engine but his mind ran again in different directions.

Now, a law firm?! Did our Young Miss really got into trouble? But when? Where? How?

The gossipy driver carried on driving.

When the clock hit five in the afternoon, they arrived at a tall building.

ZNJ— Zongyang National Justice.

Xiong Zhi went alone into the building and headed for Zongyang Law Firm.

She went to the third floor and approached the receptionist.

"Excuse me, where is the office of Ms. Bivia Chang?"

"Oh, you're looking for Lawyer Chang, do you have an appointment with her today?" the receptionist asked with a troubled expression.

Xiong Zhi pondered whether to say 'yes' to hasten up or just be honest.

"Actually, I have some important matters to discuss with her. Can you please tell me where the office is?" Xiong Zhi decided to be a good child.

The reception let out a sigh of relief.

Then she said, "Actually, Miss, Lawyer Chang is not here as she's on leave. She will return to work by next week."

Xiong Zhi furrowed her brows.

'Next week. What a waste of time.'

"May I know where Lawyer Chang might be? Maybe I can meet her outside her office. It is very important."

"Ah, yes. Lawyer Chang is on a funeral right now. "

Xiong Zhi's eyebrows arched slightly.

So that was why the lawyer had not heard the news and could not help Xiong Zhi's target in the past...

"Oh, so that's why. May I know which funeral hall they went to? "

"It's okay. It's not a secret anyways. I heard they went to Vista Funeral Hall in Quangdong City. Actually, it is Prosecutor Huo's family who's having a funeral right now. But Lawyer Chang is in a relationship right now with Prosecutor Huo. So you know, as a girlfriend, Lawyer Cha---"

"Thank you. I should go right now." Xiong Zhi bid farewell to the talkative receptionist. She had a feeling that if she stayed more, she would be delayed by this gossipy receptionist.

Xiong Zhi went out of Zongyang National Justice building and dove straight away into the car.

The driver who was drinking water while listening to music almost choke when he saw Xiong Zhi.

So fast!

"Vista Funeral Hall." Xiong Zhi did not waste any words.

This time the driver really choked on the water he was drinking.

Funeral?!

He was just guessing but now it came true.

(A/N : refer to chapter 10 , still remember? )

***[RR]: wait, just gonna check. You really want to make it harder for me?(¬_¬)***

The driver drove through the city towards Vista Funeral Hall while his mind ran wildly again.

The sun was already settled for the day when they arrived at the Vista Funeral Hall.

Many people in black suits and dresses came back and forth towards the hall.

Xiong Zhi entered the building. She was looking for Bivia Chang. She knew what the woman looked like because she saw the lawyer on the news before.

She looked around after entering the hall. In front was the altar and a picture of an old man. Beside the frame, lines of incense billowed out wafts of smoke. Below was a buffet table for the mourners. Beside the altar, there were several rows of white flower arrangements with family names attached to them.

Xiong Zhi looked at the seats in front. On the far seat on the front row, a young woman in her early twenties wearing a black suit and dark skirt was sitting. Her black hair was tied in a bun, her white neck was exposed. She sat straight with a gloomy aura.

Xiong Zhi walked in front of the altar and burned incense. She kneeled, put together her hands, and paid her respects for the old man with her head bowed.

The moment she was done, a middle-aged lady came to her. She wore a black funeral dress and her hair was tied up. Her hair was a bit disarrayed and her eyes were a little puffy. When she smiled to her, it was warm but with a hint of sadness.

"Thank you for coming. May I know the name of the young lady honoring my late father?" the lady asked gently.

"My name is Xiong Zhi. I'm no relative. But I came here for my friend," Xiong Zhi said truthfully. Seeing the lady's sincere smile, her usually indifferent heart warmed a little, and she felt that the lady seemed trustworthy.

"I see. Still, I thank you for coming. Seeing a beautiful young woman like you visit my father, he would be happy." She chuckled a little but her eyes seemed sad.

"If I may I ask, who is the young lady's friend?"

"I'm a friend of Xiao Mei. I came here in behalf of her. She could not come because of an emergency. I hope you don't mind."

"It's okay. I understand." The lady smiled slightly.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Xiong Zhi said in a soft voice.

"Thank you for coming. Come, child, let's sit," the lady said, pointing at a vacant chair.

"No need, madam. I will not stay longer. I have to talk to Ms. Bivia Chang. Thank you for your concern," Xiong Zhi said.

"It's alright. Come, Bivia is here," the lady smiled assuredly at her and led her to the front seats.

The woman Xiong Zhi saw earlier saw them approach. She stood up and patted the lady gently on her back.

"Aunt Quo, I'll assist the visitors. You should rest first a little," the woman said.

She was tall, taller than Xiong Zhi. Her phoenix eyes were beautifully surrounded by thin and long lashes, it slightly curved up at the edge, making her eyes seem sharper and more profound. Her nose bridge was high and her thin red lips looked like it would be a smart mouth when pursed. Her white skin was beautifully contrasting with the black suit she wore.

"Thank you, Bi'er. This guest knows you. I leave her to you then." The lady smiled in farewell and walked to the entrance to welcome the people who just have arrived.

Lawyer Chang turned to Xiong Zhi.

"Well, I don't know you. And you do not seem to be here just to pay respect. What do you need from me?" Lawyer Chang asked directly. Her sharp eyes scrutinizing Xiong Zhi.

"I need to talk to you about Ms. Xiao Mei."

Lawyer Chang's oppressive aura was suddenly gone, replaced by a worried expression.

She had been trying to contact Xiao Mei for a week now, but did not get any response. When she went to their apartment, there was no one there, not even Granny Ping. She had wanted to inform her best friend about the death of their friend's granddad.

Seeing that someone even came here to purposely inform her of the whereabouts of her friend, she suddenly got worried.

'Not bad news, please.'

"It's bad news. A very bad one," Xiong Zhi answered expressionlessly.

Lawyer Chang had accidentally said her thoughts out loud. She cleared her throat and tried to clear her head.

Hurriedly, she said, "Let's talk outside."

They headed to the parking area. The parking area only had the two of them and a lamp post. Lawyer Chang faced Xiong Zhi and said stoically,

"You better not be lying. I will record everything. If you lie, even if you are underage, I can still put you in prison. Understand? "

Xiong Zhi looked at the woman. She really was a lawyer with a defensive and offensive aura.

Xiong Zhi liked it. There was no need to waste words or time.

She took out her phone, typed something, and gave it to Lawyer Chang.

'CJ's Controversy: Fake Diamonds? Secretary Xiao Mei the Mastermind'

(A/N: refer to chap 8. Xiong Zhi was scrolling news at that time, she encountered this. )

Lawyer Chang's sharp eyes grew wide, incredulity could be seen. She even zoomed in the article. The article was just written two days ago.

"H-how? It can't be, she will n-never do that... T-this—she was framed!"

"Lawyer Chang was really sharp. But that is not the matter here. Ms. Xiao Mei has been in prison for a week now." Xiong Zhi did not beat around the bush.

"What?! How come she didn't tell me?" Then Lawyer Chang stopped for a moment as she gritted her teeth. Her gaze became menacing.

"CJ. They even blocked her from communicating with other people. They would probably not give her a choice in getting her lawyer."

Xiong Zhi lips curled up slightly. She liked this Lawyer Chang. She did not need to explain much.

Lawyer Chang suddenly stopped her fuming and looked at Xiong Zhi with suspicion in her eyes.

"I appreciate you telling me this, but who are you? How is this related to you?" she inquired.

If Xiao Mei could not contact her friends for help, then come this girl knew? More importantly, how did this girl know that she was related to Xiao Mei? She never saw the girl in Xiao Mei's friend circle. Why was she doing this?

It was not a bait, wasn't it? If it was, then they were all foolish.

She was Lawyer Bivia Chang. A famous lawyer working with many big corporations. Even big companies would not offend a woman like her who had many connections. Besides, why would those big shots gave importance of her? Because she knew their dirty secret, and can help them hide it.

With this thought, Lawyer Chang looked boldly at Xiong Zhi.

"My name is Xiong Zhi. How I am related to Xiao Mei, you'll know later. But we must discuss the matter first." Xiong Zhi had to tell the truth. This lawyer in front of her was not an easy baggage and have many resources. It would only take her a few days to know her real identity.

"Xiong? Are you related to the Xiong family of the imperial city?" Lawyer Chang asked jestingly. She did not really think that this girl would be related to the Xiong's—one of the most powerful and wealthiest families in the country, and the world. Since the Xiong family owned the Xiong Corporation, they had become one of the top ten largest companies internationally.

Besides, there would be no way this girl was a Xiong. If she was, she would be surrounded by hordes of guards and flashy cars.
