CHAPTER TWO

"Remember, you're just like any human out there too. A little different, a special edition. You're gonna nail this, Elle." I said to myself as I stare at the mirror while brushing my hair. But I let out a huff, "Yeah right, special edition, even just for the first day in school huh? Really special. School started last week but your first day is just about to start today because apparently your entire school needed to be briefed." I rolled my eyes and I continue to brush my hair.

I sighed and composed myself again, "Anyway, Elle, remember, don't engage with dramas. Don't engage with those social hierarchy--Aah!" I dropped my brush and screamed when I heard a voice.

"There's no such social hierarchy. That only happens in movies. You should really stop watching Netflix, honey. They're not real." My mom said while leaning against the wall.

I turned to my mom, "Mom! Jeez! You scared me! You could've knocked!"

"Well, your door was open. And I heard you talking, I thought you were talking with someone." Mom said as she picked up the brush and started brushing my hair.

"I'm talking with someone. See?" I pointed at myself in the mirror. "Isn't she such a beautiful piece?" I wiggled my eyebrows and smirked at my mom.

"Of course she is, she's my daughter." My mom said and I giggled. "Elle, honey, seriously, don't worry about school too much. Okay? Social hierarchy, really? There's no such thing in a school." I rolled my eyes.

"Mom, if there's no such system then why does the count of kids suffering from bullying keep on rising? I might not have a social life but I do watch and read news. Ma, I'm just stating facts here. This is reality." I told my mom and she stopped brushing my hair.

"Okay, now you're making me feel like I made a mistake on agreeing with your father and your doctor about enrolling you in a real school. I don't want you to get bullied, dear." My mom gave me a worried look. Oh, mama.

"Mom, calm down. I don't think I'll get bullied anyway." I said to calm her down and she raised her eyebrows. "You see, Dr. Hayward briefed the whole school about my case, and the school briefed my homeroom during their first day last week. So yeah, I'm kind of popular now and I think bullying is the last thing would happen to me, I think pity party is." I said jokingly but my mom gave me a pointed look.

"Ma, don't worry, really. Even if I get bullied, I have an EpiPen with me. I can just prick those bullies with it. Or to ease your mind, I can just do homeschool, let's just scratch this whole real-school idea and then we won't be having this bully problems." My mom just laughed and shook her head.

"Speaking of EpiPen, remember don't eat sea--"

"Seafoods. Peanuts. Yes, mom. I know."

My mom gave me a look, "And we know how sensitive your system could be, so if your new anticonvulsant drugs made you feel slight uncomfortable, especially if you feel even just a slight itchiness, go to the nur--"

"Go to the school nurse and just take the EpiPen with me. Yep, mom. Noted. And yes mom, I have all my medications with me, including pain relievers and all." She just stared and smiled at me before kissing me on my forehead, and hugged me. "You'll do amazing, honey. See you downstairs." I watched her as she left my room.

"Is our schoolgirl ready?" I heard my dad shout from downstairs.

Am I? Please floor, just swallow me, please. Ugh!
