"So how did you know all that stuff last night." Blaise asked at the table.
"I told you, i have a foundation in every core branches of magic, along with a few other ones." Harry explained.
"Yeah, but where did you learn all these things?" Tracey asked.
"Tibet." Harry said before eating.
After they ate, they went about their two classes. They started to actually get into the learning aspect of the class in the case of DADA, and learned about the whomping willow in herbology. After a meeting with Flitwick about their duel the next day, Harry found himself in front of Dumbledore's office.
"Excuse me, I need to talk to the Headmaster." Harry said to the gargoyle statue guarding the stair way. The gargoyle nodded before the stair way started to curl up to the office. "Thank you." Harry said before ascending the tower.
"Come in." Dumbledore said as Harry arrived at his door. "Ah, Hadrian my boy. I was wondering if you would show today." Dumbledore said, looking at a time candle.
"Please Professor, only call me Mr. Thornwood. We do not have that kind of relationship, and it's unprofessional in our situation sir." Harry said. Dumbledore signed sadly.
"Very well Mr. Thornwood. I will keep this professional. Now, the papers you gave stated that you need to collect both plant and creature focci for your mark of the adept test. Correct?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yes sir, I am apprenticing under a master focci crafter." Harry said.
"Very interesting. Might I know his name Mr. Thornwood?" Dumbledore asked.
"He goes by Sidir, and he pops up around the world, crafting focci for people." Harry explained.
"He sounds familiar, I might have to stop by some time to see what he could make me." Dumbledore said.
"We need the grounds keeper today as well. A Mr. Hagrid?" Harry asked, steering the conversation away from his work.
"Ah yes, Hagrid, shall I call for him, or shall we go meet him at his home?" Dumbledore asked.
"I believe it will save time just going to meet him. That way you can tell me a bit about the grounds as we go." Harry said before Dumbledore stood up to join him.
"Was your wand crafted by your master too Mr. Thornwood?" Dumbledore asked as they descended the tower. "Yes, it was fascinating to watch it be made." Harry said. Dumbledore nodded.
"Now, Mr. Thornwood, the three places i will be bringing you are the forbidden forest, The black lake, and the plains that the train travels to reach Hogwarts." Dumbledore explained.
"Out of all those area's, the forbidden forest is the most dangerous. That is why it's forbidden. Many a student has disappeared into its midst, never to be heard from again." Dumbledore explained as they approached Hagrid's hut.
"Hagrid, are you here?" Dumbledore asked, after knocking on the door.
"Ai, what de ya need Professor?" Hagrid asked, opening his large door.
"Mr. Thornwood here is going on his first outing, and we will be joining him today." Dumbledore explained.
"Ah yes. Let me get me crassbow." Hagrid said before going back into his house. A few minutes later he returned with a crossbow and quiver, filled with bolts. "Ol'right, ready t' go." Hagrid said.
"Now Mr. Thornwood, I would prefer if you were to go into the forbidden forest, that you take Hagrid here with you. He's on good terms with the beings of this forest." Dumbledore asked.
"Of course. Are we starting with the forest, or somewhere else?" Harry asked.
"I believe the forest will be where we start." Dumbledore said.
"Then if I may take a moment of your time, I need to use a spell." Harry stated. Dumbledore and Hagrid looked in curiosity.
Harry made a circular wand movement before saying, "Lignum est Magicae!" A blue light shot out of wand that slowly wove its way around Harry before shooting off into the forest.
"Blimey 'Arry, what was that?" Hagrid asked.
"That, was the magical Tree revealing spell. It allows me to find the correct wood for wands and staffs."
"I've never heard of such a spell." Dumbledore said in wonder.
"Its a bit of a trade secret, seeing as most woods are only used in fooci crafting. By the way, Mr. Hagrid, your umbrella is quite peculiar. Might i examine it?" Harry asked.
"Sure. Once we're done 'ere I'll show ya." The giant said before they departed for the blue light. They travelled. Soon they arrived at a large, ancient, twisted oak tree. The light was circling it, more specifically, a large branch.
"Hm. Very interesting." Harry said, placing his ear on the tree. Using his magic, he knocked on it, seeming to listen for something.
"Mr. Thornwood, might i enquire about what it is you are doing?" Dumbledore asked.
"Shhhhh." Harry said closing his eyes. "Whakaatu, te tuku." Harry said. Dumbledore and Hagrid shared a look of confusion. The tree groaned before presenting the branch. Harry pulled out his wand once more. "Diffindo." A green spell arched it's way out of Harry's wand, severing the branch. He then scanned the branch, studying it quite intently. After a few minutes of searching, he nodded before starting to cut the wood into the correct length. When he was done the branch had become a large block of wood, roughly 8 feet tall, 6 inches wide, and 6inches thick. He then shrunk the block and placed it in his pack.
"Alright, we're good to go." Harry said.
"That was quite the marvolous spell work Mr. Thornwood. Might I enquire once again what spell that was?" Dumbledore asked.
"I'm sorry sir, but that knowledge is only avaliable between me and my master." Harry said. Upon seeing Dumbledore's curious look, Harry sighed and explained further. "Think about it like this. Every craftsman brands his creation to mark it his own. Every craftsman also has their own shortcuts, or ways of crafting their trade. So, by that logic, my master does things his way, and only he and his apprentices would learn his way, where as someone like Mr. Olivander would craft his wands a different way."
"I understand now, thank you. Well, we must be off; there's only so much daylight in a day after all." Dumbledore said, trecking further into the woods. After about a half hour of traveling, and stopping ever so often to collect materials, they arrived at a large clearing in the woods. "Well, I'd say it's been a productive treck. Shall we return, to travel to the other locations?" Dumbledore asked. Hagrid and Harry grunted in approval.
As they turned to leave, a bolt struck itself into the tree next to Dumbledore's head. "Make another move and this one goes threw your head." A voice said.
"I am the Headmaster of these grounds! Reveal yourself!" Dumbledore demanded. His face betrayed no emotion, but his eyes showed a burning fury. A group of Centaurs slowly strode into the clearing, bows drawn.
"Firenze! Bane! What are ya doin?!" Hagrid asked.
"Hagrid, Professor, our appologies. We thought you were a wraith. There's one in the area, preying on the Unicorn herd." An elderly Centaur said, stepping aside to show a limping unicorn.
"A wraith!? Here!? That should not be possible!" Dumbledore said. The Unicorn stepped further into the clearing, giving Harry a better look at it's injuries.
"I see the Unicorn strikes your curiosity young colt." Firenze said.
"Indeed, I've never seen one before." Harry said.
"Then Jupiter shines down upon you. This Unicorn is rare, even for it's breed. It's what you human's refer to as, albino." Firenze stated. Indeed, the Unicorn looked very different than any other. It's body was black as obsidian, and it's mane was silver like moonlight. It's horn looked to be solid gold. "Stick your hand out. It may be attracted to you." The elder said. The one known as Bane just snorted.
Harry did as told, calmly and slowly sticking his hand out. The Unicorn raised it's head and stared at Harry, as if judging his worth. After a few minutes, the Unicorn slowly limped towards his hand. Once they connected, a jolt of magic went between them, calming the unicorn. "Thank you, majestic one, for your offering." Harry said, removing a vial from his bag. "This will sting for a moment." He said before pulling out a tail hair. The unicorn shook it's head before nuzzling Harry once and walking back to the centaurs.
"Who are you, young colt?" The elder asked.
"I am Hadrian Thornwood. I am apprenticed to a master focci crafter." Harry explained. The elder nodded.
"Hagrid, please escort Mr. Thornwood back to the castle. Mr. Thornwood, with a wraith being on the premisses, I must ask to delay anymore visits to the forrest until we get it purged from here." Dumbledore stated. Harry nodded his head in understanding; a wraith was no laughing matter. "And Hagrid, get the professor's here, we may need all the help we can get." Dumbledore said before turning back to the the elder.
"Alright 'Arry, lets get back." The giant said, ushering Harry back to the castle. "Do ya still want t' look at my umbrella?" Hagrid asked.
"It can wait. You should alert the Professor's. I'll stop by over the weekend." Harry said with a smile.
"So how was focci hunting?" Blaise asked once Harry got back to the common room. He was sitting in one of the arm chairs with Blaise and Tracey on a couch, and Daphne in a different chair. Other students littered the room.
"It went quite well until the end, but even then it turned out profitable." Harry said.
"Did you see any exciting creatures?" Tracey asked, a mischievous glint in her eye.
"Why yes actually. A Centaur nearly put an arrow in Dumbledore's head." Harry said. The other three gapped at this.
"No way that happened." Daphne said.
"Well I have no way to prove it other than my word along with Hagrid's, buuuut, I do have the Unicorn Hair to prove I met some interesting things." Harry said with a smirk. His friends mouths hit the floor.
"You met a Unicorn. And not just that, got close enough to get a tail hair!?" Blaise asked.
"Yeah. It was travelling with the Centaurs. Apparently, it was attacked by a wraith somewhere in the forest. The professors went out searching for it after I got back." Harry explained.
"A wraith now as well?" Daphne asked, skeptically.
"According to the Centaurs at least. I have no way of proving this." Harry stated.
"What was the Unicorn like?" Tracey asked.
"It was very different from the books. It had the same form as other Unicorns, but the coloration was wrong." Harry said. "The Centaur said that it was albino, which is strange, since albino is the lack of pigment in a being." Harry said.
"How was the color wrong?" Blaise asked.
"Well, instead of a solid silver color, it was as black as obsidian. And it's hair was like moonlight. Even it's horn was a different color. It was gold." Harry said, filling the three and a few eavesdroppers with wonder.
