Today, Shen Biqiong took a detour to see her and got into an accident. If anything were to happen to Shen Biqiong, He Lanjin would bear the guilt for the rest of her life.
He Lanjin looked down at her phone. She was so anxious to get in touch with Shen Biqiong that she did not notice a car coming. By the time she reacted, it was already too late.
"Be careful." A masculine voice made He Lanjin come back to her senses. She tried to dodge the oncoming car, but it was going too fast.
**: The author wrote this paragraph to remind people to not be on their phones while walking. Doing so is not safe.
When He Lanjin came to, she was in Qiao Hanye's arms. Before the car hit her, Qiao Hanye had grabbed her by the waist. Carrying her in one arm and leaning on the rushing car with the other, Qiao Hanye jumped to the side of the road. As they fell, he wrapped his arms around He Lanjin to protect her.
"Ohh," He Lanjin groaned, her mind blank.
The driver of the car, who was a novice, got so scared that he drove away. He did not want to get arrested for possibly causing the death of two people.
Feeling He Lanjin's body trembling, Qiao Hanye held her by the waist as he gently lifted her chin with his fingers. "How can you play with your phone while walking? Are you asking for a beating?" Qiao Hanye asked in his masculine voice.
He Lanjin was very surprised to know that it was Qiao Hanye who saved her.
"You..." He Lanjin narrowed her eyes at Qiao Hanye. "Are you a stalker?"
"That's quite true, Miss He!" Qiao Hanye laughed. "I've taken a fancy to you."
He Lanjin blushed. Qiao Hanye supported her as she propped herself up. When she was finally standing, pain shot up from her feet, causing her to fall and bury her little face into his chest.
Qiao Hanye's scent filled her nose. He smelled exceptionally good.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you letting go? Are you trying to seduce me?" He Lanjin said as she lifted her head from his chest, pretending to be okay.
"Nonsense," Qiao Hanye said as he lightly pressed He Lanjin's head to his chest.
"Did you hurt your foot?" Qiao Hanye asked as he looked down at He Lanjin's foot.
"I might have sprained it," He Lanjin replied.
Qiao Hanye lifted He Lanjin up and sat her on the side of the road. He squatted in front of her and examined her feet. "You don't seem to have broken any bones. That's good. You have sprained your ankle, though."
Qiao Hanye got up. He Lanjin panicked and quickly reached for his hand. Her hand landed on his belt instead.
He Lanjin looked up at Qiao Hanye. Good thing his pants were a good fit; they did not give when she pulled on his belt. But her fingers started feeling hot; He Lanjin felt as if she touched something she should not have. She was so embarrassed she could not even think of letting go.
Qiao Hanye looked down at He Lanjin. He removed her hand from his belt and squatted in front of her, his hand still holding hers. "What do you want, Miss He?"
"It's broad daylight. What would I want from you?" He Lanjin hissed as she drew her hand back. Then, in a particularly serious manner, she said, "Tie your pants tighter in the future."
Even if she was beaten to death, she would not admit that she wanted his help. She reached out for his hand, but her hand landed elsewhere when he turned around.
But she had to admit to herself that her hand brushed on something that was a little... hard.
But that was his lighter, right? After all, he seemed to smoke every day.
She could not help but glance up at Qiao Hanye; she felt embarrassed.
"I think I have to thank Miss He for her warm reminder," Qiao Hanye said thoughtfully. He pulled He Lanjin toward him.
He Lanjin felt light as Qiao Hanye pulled her to him. In one swift movement, he was carrying her in his arms.
The women who were trimming the flowers and plants by the roadside were watching this scene unfold. "Ahh, the young couple is having a disagreement," said one of the women. "The lady is having a tantrum, and the man seems to have been touched."
"The shy look on the young woman's face says it all. She must be going back..."
Hearing the women's gossip made He Lanjin blush. She stared at Qiao Hanye, raised her hand to pinch his perfect chin, and asked, "Mr. Qiao, don't tell me that we met by chance at such a remote highway junction."
He Lanjin suddenly narrowed her eyes at him. "Qiao Hanye, you can't be..."
