Chapter 130: Boss Qiao is no pushover.

He Lanjin curiously walked toward Qiao hanye and met him in the center of the room. "Did Mr. Qiao witness what just happened here?"

"Oh no," Qiao Hanye said. "Your man is not able to do anything without Mrs. Qiao's orders." He grabbed He Lanjin by the waist and whisked her out of the room.

He could not bear to see He Lanjin in this room for even a second longer. To him, this was a foul place, having been occupied by a woman as indecent as He Ruoxue. Qiao Hanye did not want He Lanjin to be polluted by the nastiness of the air in this room.

Qiao Hanye only let go of He Lanjin once they were fully out of the suite.

"Ten years ago, He Ruoxue overheard someone planning with her parents about how to let He Ruoxue into the He family. She solved their problem by risking her life and taking a knife for me. As a token of gratitude, my parents adopted her and she became my godsister."

"What is the motive of the person behind this? Does it have to do with He Wenqing's addiction to alcohol and gambling, or is it something else? There was hardly any change in our family, except He Ruoxue becoming the favored daughter." Feeling her brain on fire, He Lanjin shared her thoughts with Qiao Hanye.

Qiao Hanye's black eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a chill. "What is Lu Zifan after? Why does he want to marry into your family?"

"To steal the He family's secrets," He Lanjin said. A realization dawned on her as soon as she finished speaking. "Are you saying that those two possibly have the same goals, even though their goals don't seem to be related?" she asked in disbelief.

"It's highly possible," Qiao Hanye replied, calmly putting things in perspective. "They've been keeping a low profile for a long time. It could be because they haven't gotten close to the core of their goal, or the goal just isn't in sight yet."

He Lanjin fell silent. The He family did not really have any secrets. The He Lan family, on the other hand...

But no one in the entire Jiang City except for He Lanjin, He Wenqing, and Tang Zhilin knew that the He family was the He Lan family. Because of He Wenqing's wanton ways, he was chased out of the He Lan family and was forced to change his surname to He. From then on, He Wenqing had been forbidden to use the surname He Lan.

Qiao Hanye took He Lanjin's hand in his. "If you can't figure it out, then let it go for now."

He Lanjin nodded. She needed to figure out what the mystery was, but nothing was making sense—at least for now.

"When I first arrived at the disaster area, I donated three million to help the victims, but the money just disappeared," He Lanjin said in an effort to distract herself. "The officials here are really bold." Qiao Hanye was not surprised to hear that He Lanjin donated money. He knew that she may be ruthless toward her enemies, but she had a heart of gold.

Although she came from a well-known family, He Lanjin willingly volunteered to help this cause, running around the disaster area day and night. She did not say a word or act entitled even when she got injured herself. He Lanjin truly had a noble character.

"What are you going to do?" Qiao Hanye asked as He Lanjin lapsed back to silence. He knew she was hatching a plan.

"I want to test those officials. I'll find an opportunity to make these corrupt leaders give back what they have taken away from the people all these years." He Lanjin sounded as if she was bragging, but Qiao Hanye knew that she had the ability to make things happen.

This seemingly weak woman in front of him was actually stronger and more ruthless than most men Qiao Hanye knew. She would not let anything get in her way of achieving whatever she put her mind into.

The more in control He Lanjin was, the more charming she became in Qiao Hanye's eyes.

"Go back to the room and get some rest," Qiao Hanye said. He felt sorry for He Lanjin worrying about too many things and losing sleep over them.

He Lanjin took half a step back, raised her arm in a salute. "Yes, Boss Qiao."

Lively by nature, He Lanjin turned around and ran back to her room. Qiao Hanye heard her bell-like laughter as if she had none of these troublesome things to think about.

Qiao Hanye watched until he could no longer see He Lanjin, who fascinated him in more ways than one.

But as soon as she disappeared from his sight, Qiao Hanye's yes grew cold, swallowing the warm and tender feelings He Lanjin drew out.

"Tell the doctor-in-charge to take care of He Ruoxue," Qiao Hanye said to no one in particular. What he meant, however, by "take care" was torture He Ruoxue in the worst ways possible.
