The Abandoned Mansion

It was July. In this hot month, only night provides a short respite from the hot, Florida sun. At this moment, there was a man ducked in a bush near a mansion, holding a pair of binoculars to his eyes. Rumors of a rich and powerful family which suddenly disappeared had been floating around Miami for years now. Their mansion never went up for sale or anything, and looking from the outside, judging from the courtyard, lights, and walls, it had clearly been abandoned.

A rich family... since they disappeared so suddenly, surely there must be objects of value left behind! Even if there's nothing left, it's not like anyone would notice someone breaking into an abandoned mansion. Who cares about it since it hasn't had anyone in it for years? Not to mention the mansion is in its own closed off private area, so there would be no bystanders. These were the thoughts of Borken Rotto as he attempted to look for any signs of movement inside, just in case.

Nothing.

Suddenly, Borken heard the sound of speaking! He shook at this noise, before realizing it was just some kids somewhere being loud. 'Sound sure travels far in the silence of the night...' Borken thought to himself.

Getting his lock picks ready, he approached a side door, grabbed the handle and shook it. To his surprise, the door was already unlocked!

'Did others get here before me? Damn! Anything valuable will already be gone!'

Walking inside, he was quickly attracted to a bookshelf! Strangely, all the books were still on it!

'Did no one want books? Or are there actually still valuables?'

'Let me see what kind of books they have...'

"What the fuck!?" Borken couldn't help but exclaim at the sight of these book covers.

'The Source of Magic', 'Top 100 Survival Tricks after losing in battle', 'The Myraid Poisons - Recipes and Cures', 'The 666 War', 'Cheap DIY Magic Items - $1,000,000,000 and below', 'Casting your first spell'

'Was this family full of chuunibyous or something? Seriously! A few books is fine, just entertainment, but an entire bookshelf? Is this a joke?'

'A rich family like this.. they must have something hidden behind their bookshelf, just like the movies, right?' Borken moved to the side of the bookshelf and started pushing. 'Ha, there's no way they'll actually have something behind their bookshelf....' Borken thought to himself.... until he looked left.

'...There's actually something there?' Inside, was a small, dark room with a computer inside. Walking inside, Borken tried turning on the computer, surprised that it actually turned on. The pale blue loading screen provided the only light in the room, and it glared into Borkens' eyes.

Borken was excited. Every computer had information of some kind. If this computer had something so important that it was hidden, then I might just get passwords directly into a bank account! Suddenly, a thought crossed Borkens' mind. 'Ah shit, it's a rich family, isn't it. It better not have any.... illegal videos....'

"BEEP!" "aH!" A loud beep suddenly startled Borken back to reality. Taking a look at the screen, large white letters at the top read, "666 System Source Code." '...Is this the source code to some secret program? I don't know what it does but.... whatever it is, it's better off in my hands.' Borken reached into his pockets for his flash drive.... only to realize he didn't bring it. "Damn!" If he were to leave and come back with his flash drive, his chances of getting caught wouldn't just be 1+1, but rise exponentially!

"Damn, is there anything else I can use?" Taking a look around the small room, Borken was attracted to a shelf full of miscellaneous discs. 'These look rather familiar, are these... Floppy Disks?' Good enough, he decided, as he looked around the computer for somewhere to insert them. 'Ah, the CD place will surely fit them' Borken decided as he stuffed the entire floppy disk in there. Looking back at the screen, a message had popped up.

Exists: File

...'Well of course a file exists! I just wa--' His attention was soon pulled to an object next to the computer. It was labeled, "Insert Floppy Disk here." Borken looked back at the CD area he had put the Floppy Disk in, and back at the Floppy Disk reader with a complicated expression. Putting the Floppy Disk into the correct area, another message had popped up on screen.

"Disk L has been detected. What would you like to do with this?"

Clicking the tab labeled "Open", Borken selected all the source code files and dragged them over to the Floppy Disk.... only to receive an error.

"IO.NETTY"

'....Does that even mean anything? Like, actually?'

Despite that brief interruption, Borken soon figured that this must be an issue with capacity. Borken checked the size limit on the floppy disk, only to see it was 14.4 megabytes. Looking back at the Source code, it was 75.1gb.

At this rate, he would never be able to transfer the code over! Borken opened up some of the files and took a look.

"☪︎❺︎ ◻︎◻︎ 🕑︎⓪︎ 🕓︎ ◻︎ ◻︎✏︎🕑︎●︎◻︎✏︎⧫︎♒︎♓︎⬧︎ ◻︎❒︎□︎♑︎❒︎♋︎❍︎ ♍︎♋︎■︎■︎□︎⧫︎ ♌︎♏︎ ❒︎◆︎■︎ ♓︎■︎ ♎︎□︎⬧︎ ❍︎□︎♎︎♏︎📬︎👓︎ ◻♏︎ ●︎ ♎︎▪︎◻︎◻︎ ◻︎ ✂︎ 📁︎ ➔︎ ❺︎ ◻︎◻︎ 🕭︎◻︎ ♊︎⑤︎ ♋︎◻︎ ◻︎ ⧫︎◻︎ ♒︎📬︎⧫︎♏︎⌧︎⧫︎ ➔︎ ♊︎📬︎❒︎⬧︎❒︎♍︎ 🕿︎◻︎ ·︎ ◻︎ @ @📬︎❒︎♏︎●︎□︎♍︎ ◻︎ ⌧︎ @ ♌︎ ◆︎◻︎ ♒︎ 🖰︎🙰 ◻︎◆︎ ❒︎ ❞︎♊︎ "

'What the hell? What does this even mean? Now, I don't know much about coding, but this looks like irrelevant code. Mhmm, Let me just delete it....'

'You know what? Lets just start deleting files. These are clearly unimportant, let me just delete those... a few of these... a bit of that...'

This went on for a few minutes. Eventually, the file had reached 15.2gb in size.

This is still not enough! This is no where near 14.4mb! Borken racked his brains looking for a solution, until finally, he got it. Compression!

'Lets see here, right click, compress... hmmm, there seem to be many different options, lets start by compressing as a .zip. Lets see the file size.... 9gb?! That's still so far! What if I just compressed it again! Clicking to compress the .zip file as a.... lzma2-ultra-dictsize? I don't know what that is, but it seems great! I'm so smart!'

Time passed like this, and as time ticked, the compressed file kept getting more and more compressed. Whether or not the file would still have anything of value left, or even accessible most certainly never passed through Borkens' mind. The file had reached 600mb in size. Borken came across this very cool option labeled "666 Magic Compression." Naturally, there was no hesitation in clicking it. After compressing it, the file had actually reached 12.6mb in size!

"Aha! I'm SO smart!" Borken could finally put the file on the Floppy Disk. When moving the file, however, a message popped up. "File is damaged! Would you like to repair?" Damaged! Borken couldn't let his precious code get damaged! Repair it is!

....5%.....8%....13%.....17%...21%...ERROR! ERROR! "Would you like to try again?" 'Error? What is this? Of course I want to try again!'

Upon clicking try again... his screen suddenly started getting filled with messages!

"ERROR! ERROR! IO.NETTY IO.NETTY IO.NETTY IO.NETTY! EXISTS: FILE ERROR EXISTS: FILE"

"The repair program has crashed. The crash report has been sent to folder: "

'Amazing... it crashed? Oh well, these programs are useless anyways. I'll take my code as is.' Borken click and dragged to put the file into the Floppy Disk. "IO.NETTY!"

"IO.NETTY YOUR HEAD!" Borken couldn't help but exclaim.

Upon checking the file size, it had actually increased after the failed repair attempt! It had gone to 14.5mb!

...

Looking at the file, Borken soon realized that it didn't have a file extension. 'Thats odd, but I can fix that up real quick.' Borken went over to the file and renamed it. At the end, he added .jpeg. Upon doing so, he saw that the file size had actually reduced to 14.3mb! "Finally!" 'All my hard work pays off!'

Upon the file being transferred to the Floppy Disk, he instantly pulled it out with an excited gaze. As soon as that was that, a message popped up on the computer. "Operating System.exe has stopped responding." Afterwards, the computer shut off.

Borken was quite content with himself. After all, he got some secret source code from a rich and powerful family!

At this moment, however, Borken heard something that scared the living netty out of him. It was a voice! "This is the mansion those kids told us someone sneaked in... I believe someones been here recently." There was someone else here! Judging by the soft voice, it was a police officer!

Borken looked behind him, but noticed that the bookshelf was somehow back in place covering the exit! Tiptoeing towards the bookshelf, trying to hear the officer clearer, Borken was soon shocked at the words he heard! "I see recent hand-marks on the sides of this bookcase, it seems they had pushed it!" 'Oh No! If things continue this way, I might be discovered!' In his worry, Borken committed a great lapse in his judgement. While trying to get a better position to hear from, he trips on his own foot and starts falling towards the bookshelf! 'Ah shit!' Borken quickly put his hands in front of him to try to stop his fall, but he was still holding the floppy disk! "Crash!" Borken rammed into the bookshelf, with the Floppy Disk Hitting him hard directly in the side of his face!

"FUCK!" Borken inadvertently said out loud, his reasons for staying silent voided when he saw the bookshelf in-front of him falling! Standing in place in shock, Borken noticed the Floppy Disk sticking out of his face, as if it was half inside him. "What..." Borken was soon shocked into silence at the scene of the Floppy Disk getting sucked inside his cheek!

While Borken was still trying to reorient himself, he suddenly heard a voice near him, almost as if coming from his mind.

"ERROR! ERROR! IO.NETTY IO.NETTY IO.NETTY IO.NETTY! EXISTS: FILE ERROR EXISTS: FILE"

'....What?'
