The First Phase

Proctor: "*yawns* alrighty..listen carefully to what I am *yawns* about to say because I am to lazy to say it more than *yawns* once."

Mizuki snickered seeing the instructor introduce the exam.

Despite his seemingly tired and lazy dissposition, Mizuki knew better then to let his guard down around the proctor.

With his dark hair and shaggy beard, accompanied by the classical Konoha flak jacket, it was clear that the proctor was a member of the Nara Clan, who were known for their genius intillect and shadow jutsu.

But this is not just any Nara, rather, it was somebody who Mizuki recognized from the show, the father of his favourite character.

Proctor: "Firstly, My name is *yawn* Shikaku Nara, and I am *yawn* your proctor for the first exam."

(A/N: Yes, Shikamaru is my favourite charachter, any other awnser is just incorrect)

Shikaku: "Alright so *yawn* the objective behind your first exam is to reach *yawn* the base that is within the training ground."

Examinee: "So Its just a race?"

Shikaku: "You could call it that, *yawn* now onto the rules"

Shikaku: "For this exam, you will randomly be sorted into duos, you pass when you cross the finish line alongside your partner "

So far, all of the genin were following what the proctor was saying, it was simple enough after all.

Shikaku continued, listing off the requirements for passing the test

Shikaku: "As there will be 150 teams, only the top *yawn* 75 will move on to the next round..not that 75 teams are going to be able *yawn* to finish the exams"

This caused everybody to tense up, as the instructor explicitlly mentioned that even though half of them could pass, the chances of half of them actually passing are incredibly low.

However, just as the genin thought that they had everything under control, Shikaku spoke once more.

Shikaku: "*yawn* Oh, and one more thing..."

Hearing him say that, everybody's ears perked up as they knew that the information that he was about to give was going to be absolutely crucial.

Shikaku: "*yawn* It's just a piece of advice really... But you will be performing in your genin squads for the second stage."

This information caused an adverse reaction throughout the crowd, as this little piece of information came with two key imlications.

Firstly, it is in your best intrest to not only make yourself and your partner pass, but your genin team as well. This is only complicated by having a manditory duo partner, who also had teammates of their own.

It also came with a secondary application though.

You could cripple teams in the next round by attacking duos that contained members of their genin team.

These thoughts whisked through the minds of several of the genin as they continued to wait for their instructor, who was still not finished with his speach.

The instructor stricly forbid killing or crippling oponents in any way, which made sense considering the fact that they were at the beginign of a war where they would be against litteraly every other major ninja village, and Konoha needed all of the power it could muster.

However, this message also had a subtext burried beneath the surface level meaning of a simle warning, it was a way of telling any potential spies in the crowd that crippling a konoha-nin would come at a cost.

As the chunin exams were a place where the next generations of the village gathered together, they were a hotspot for spies from foreign villages to gather intelligences, sabotage, or even assasinate geniuses that could cause a problem for them later in the war.

Seeing that everybody had gotten the message, Shikaku moved on too setting up the exam.

Shikaku: "Alright, to *yawn* determine the teams we have a....Ta-da!"

As he said that, he pulled out an old, worn in tophat with three hundred slips of paper tucked away inside.

Shikaku: "*yawn* you pull a piece of paper out of the hat and then *yawn* find somebody with a matching piece, simple enough right?"

All of the genin nodded in acknowledgement towards the proctor

Shikaku: "Any questions?"

A timid looking average boy put up his hand.

However, Shikaku's intelect was not for show as he was instantly able to read the genin like an open book.

Shukaku:"The test will end tommorow at sunrise"

This caused visible panic to appear in the genin's eyes as they realized that the more time they wasted here, the less time they had for the exam.

Shikaku: "*yawn* alright good, then get your asses in line so that we can get through this"

The genin got in line in order to recieve their teams.

At first, the line was painfully slow, being held up by the more immature genin talking.

However, this dissorganization quickly became military efficiency when Shikaku casually threatened to have them all fail the exam.

Poor man just wanted a nap and yet he was stuck here, supervising some brats.

Eventually, after ten minutes of waiting, Mizuki reached into the hat and pulled out the piece of paper.

He quickly moved out of the way of the next person to recieve their slip.

As soon as he reached the outskirts of the area in which the genin were occupying, Mizuki quickly funneled chakra into the paper before unfolding it.

in order to prevent people from cheating and just switching hands, there is a fuinjutsu built into the slips so that if anybody else besides the person who first applies chakra to it picks it up, it automatically summons a chunin/jonin to incapacitate the genin in question.

This very scene unfolded before Mizuki's eyes as two genin tried to exchange their slips behind a large tree, which quicky escalated as a chunin was summoned who clearly thought that he should make an example out of the two brats.

Mizuki could still faintly hear the chunin screaming the name of the jutsu he used as he shoved his fingers up the poor genins...well...he would rather not think about it.

Mizuki unveiled his paper only to let loose a sly chuckle seeing the number he got

'Duo #69'

Mizuki: "Nice"

he muttered to nobody in particular, his roots as a memelord back on earth not abandoning him even after all of the time that he had spent here.

Mizuki went through person after person, random and those who he intimately knew, searching for his duo partner.

After ten minutes of fruitless searching he was finally able to find him.

They quickly rushed off to the starting line where they deposited their slips of paper after registering their group with Shikaku.

Time seemed to crawl to a stop as everybody prepared for the "race"

Shikaku: "On your marks"

??: Remember the Plan, Mizuki

Shikaku: "Get Set"

Mizuki: "Will do.."

Shikaku: *yawn*

Mizuki: "...Asuma"

Shikaku: "Begin!"

Instantly, the crowd dissapeared from the starting point in various ways.

Some simply body flickered away. Others, used various movement techniques to escape.

Every duo off to the races, all in the hopes of becoming a chunin.

And, with that, the first stage of the chunin exams begun!

.....

Shukaku sighed in relief seeing them all take off and found a comfortable looking tree branch that he layed down on.

Shukaku: "Time for a nice nap"
