After dinner passed and Mizuki bid Shisui goodbye, he quickly went home, intent on catching as much sleep as possible for the next day.
Mizuki wasted no time at all, as he climbed into bed and quickly entered the land of dreams, with his fatigue overcoming all of the worries that may have normally kept him awake.
Whilst Mizuki did have a bit of a nagging curiosity, even a slight fear, in his head about Shisui meant, and what could potentially happen.
He was currently in no state to attempt to answer those questions.
He would have plenty of time to ponder what he meant during his travels tomorrow.
. . . . . .
Mizuki slammed down the off button on his alarm clock, not a second before it went off, letting lose an audible groan as he got out of bed.
Mizuki: {Ugh, it's so god damn early.}
Mizuki looked outside only to be greeted with what looked to be an abandoned street.
Whilst the sun still had not risen yet, it was still early (or late) enough that the already increasingly scarce nightlife in Konoha was gone, with everybody calling it a night.
In the sea of pitch black, Mizuki was barely able to make out the silhouettes of various buildings from the scarcely placed streetlights.
Mizuki quickly looked over to the clock to check the exact time, confirming once more that all was running according to schedule.
Mizuki: "4:30 AM, huh? Jesus fuck that's early, I've gone to bed then, but waking up then? Who could do that?"
(A/N: Me writing this at 4:21 AM: . . .)
Mizuki quickly got ready, taking the last good shower he would have in a whilst, creating some food which he had prepped for his breakfast the night before, and finally confirming that he had everything that he would need for the mission before walking out the door.
Mizuki arrived at the gates of Konoha fifteen minutes later, with the sky just starting to brighten as the night faded and dawn began to break.
??: "You must be Mizuki?"
Mizuki turned around, only to see a man who was seemingly average, with the only things making him stand out being his facial tattoos, and the large Nuinken by his side.
Mizuki: "You are our team leader?"
??: "That's right, Neko Inizuka, nice to meet you.
Mizuki: "..."
Neko: "Why does this happen every time I introduce myself? Yes. I am aware of the irony behind my name. My dad was just an asshole like that. Can we please move on?"
Mizuki: ". . . Ok?"
Neko: "Great. Anyways, as you could probably guess, I am Neko Inizuka, Tokebetsu Jonin. I am responsible for tracking and am the team leader."
Mizuki: "And our other companion?"
Neko: "They will be arriving any minute now."
As if on queue, another young man approached the two of them, this one with an overcoat covering his face.
??: "My name is Konchu Aburame. I am of the chunin rank and am in charge of our remote reconnaissance.[2]"
Neko: "Excellent. Now. To review the contents of our mission . . ."
Neko: "We have orders to monitor the surrounding towns of our main fortress for what we expect is an Iwa spy."
Neko: "The surrounding forts do not know that we are arriving, and we are to investigate everybody, including our own. Am I clear?"
Konchu: "Crystal."
Mizuki: "Yup"
Neko: "Excellent! Let's go."
Saying those words, the group presented all of the necessary documents they needed to leave before exiting just as the sun was starting to rise over the hidden leaf village.
. . . . .
The group made quick pace, traveling across the forests that dotted the land of fire with lightning-fast speed.
Along the way, they all made idle small talk with one another, although most of the journey was spent in relative silence as they moved north towards Kusa.
Neko: "Hey, Mizuki!"
Hearing the shouts of the official commander, Mizuki turned to face him.
Mizuki: "Yes?"
Neko: "How come you don't have a pack?"
Hearing those words, Mizuki realized that both of his other teammates were wearing small packs strapped to their backs.
Each densely filled with rations, extra clothes, sleeping bags, and so forth.
Mizuki had a prideful smile on his face as he tapped the scroll protector on his chunin jacket.
Mizuki: "All in here."
Neko gave a nod of understanding, albeit, one with confusion mixed in, as he was clearly unaware of how seals could do that.
Mizuki's prideful smile remained on his face minutes after the brief conversation ended, clearly happy at showing off his relatively revolutionary idea of using modified encasement scrolls to store all of his daily necessities.
No need for any of them to know that he made it drawing inspiration from the storage rings in every cultivation novel ever.
The group continued to advance, trying to be as quick as possible to reach their destination.
After all, if they waited and the spy was able to return vital information to Iwa, that could potentially endanger the lives of some of their comrades.
Whilst the group continued to hop from tree to tree, Mizuki was lost in his thoughts, trying to find out exactly what Shisui meant the previous night when he warned him.
Mizuki: {Shisui: A piece of advice, try to get in and out as fast as you can.}
Mizuki: {Ok, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to find out that shit is about to hit the fan in Kusa, but what?}
Mizuki: {Most likely Iwa, and the fact that the nation divides it from directly invading Konoha.}
Mizuki: {Ok. so going over what we know now, then that means . . .}
Mizuki: "We aren't going to be catching a mere saboteur."
Mizuki: "We are catching the spies sent ahead of the main invasion to try to soften up the main forces first."
Mizuki: "The first front of the war is about to be opened."
Mizuki's end piece was said in a quiet tone.
Barely a mutter.
The wind carrying away his voice to god knows where.
. . . . .
[1] Means cat for those uncultured swines who did not know. Yes, my sense of humor is really that immature. No, I will not stop.
[2] The Five-second google search I just did told me that this means insect, so its what I'm rolling with..
. . . . .
Next Chapter, Mizuki will reach Kusa!
What will happen next? Who is the spy? What did Shisui warn Mizuki about?
Will the author be able to write a chapter without fucking up his English?
Find out, on the next chapter, of Reincarnated as Mizuki.
A/N: For the record, the answer to that last question is no.
