Baby's POV
I tapped my mom's shoulder to wake her up and get her attention. The ambush group seemed quite strong from what I could tell.
My brother grabbed me before I could try again when I didn't get a response and pulled me towards him.
I struggled to get his attention to the outside; trying to warn him of the danger surrounding our group. I felt so frustrated at my inability to communicate.
"Shh"Jasper whispered in my ear. "Don't wake mom up. She's been sick and needs her rest. We're going to be fine. Even if we didn't have any other guards, we still have dad. He could take them all on all by himself" he added reassuringly.
The thought of my mother being sick and me not knowing briefly distracted me from the battle going on outside. I had so many questions, but could voice none of them. I filed them away in my brain for later and turned my focus back to the battle starting outside.
The guards had made circled the perimeter of our carriage and were holding their own, while the shadow guards who had been following our group in 'stealth mode' all along the way, were attacking the enemy's rear in secret. By the time the enemy realized that they had poked a hornet's nest and wanted to retreat, they were unable to.
It was an weird to watch the battle from my perspective. I could see the outline of the men and weapons, but I am pretty sure they were using some sort of magic, because some of the enemy were killed, but I couldn't see how. The idea both frightened me ; the idea that someone could kill me without touching me, and excited me; that maybe I would get to use whatever power they possessed.
I know that Jasper's power has something to do with plants and the ground and that my sister who always smells like a fireplace is double gifted in using fire. The only thing I have been able to find out is that the 2 year old ceremony has something to do with the activation of said power. Using my aura for such a long time and over such a distance really tired me out. Before I knew it I had fallen sound asleep.
By the time I woke up, it was already late into the evening and we had stopped by the roadside for the night. I could hear the sounds of the people around the campfires; some of the louder men boasting while the servant women oohed, awed and giggled to each other. The normal sounds made me almost question if a battle had in fact taken place, but with the normal sounds, there was also an underlying alertness throughout the camp.
"Oh good, you're awake" one of the servant women said when she came over to check on me in the tent I was currently inhabiting.
I nodded my head in response, the only one I could really make, and was lifted into her arms and carried over to one of the central campfires within the camp. I was so thankful that I had my aura in order to 'see' because without it I would have been very startled from the maid suddenly picking me up without warning and would have never known that I was seated right next to my family otherwise.
The reason I could tell that they were my family is because of the close proximity to my mother and father as well as the outline of my brother and sister. Not many people are as short as my brother around us, he being only 10 years old and not having his growth spurt yet.
It was another meal of mash and soft fruit with water to wash it down, but after using all that energy to watch the battle, I was very hungry and ate everything. I raised my bowl up trying to convey that I wanted more, but the servant took the bowl away, not understanding my desire.
"Give her more" I heard Voice 1 command in his distinctive gravel voice.
As soon as I had been seated for the meal, I had retracted my aura to only about a foot around me to conserve my diminished energy and so hadn't notice Voice 1's presents nearby.
"M'Lord?" I heard the servant woman ask.
"She's still hungry" he stated. That was Voice 1 for you. Never any more words than necessary, but I was extremely grateful.
I nodded in response to Voice 1's statement.
"Do as Ken says" my father commanded, backing up Voice 1 whose name I finally discovered to be Ken.
I didn't really think the name Ken fit him at all, but then the Ken I grew up with was paired with Barbie.
I quickly polished off another bowl of food.
"Did you have enough to eat?" the servant woman asked. It seemed impolite to just nod, but that was all I could do, so I hoped she wouldn't take offense to it. I added a smile hoping she would know I appreciated the extra food.
"Alright, let's get you into bed then" She said with a lighter tone. The servant woman picked me up and helped me get ready for bed before putting me back under the blankets that I had woken under earlier in the evening. Before falling back asleep, I couldn't help but mentally sigh; wondering what the rest of our trip held and when we would finally arrive at the Imperial city.
