Dark and cold was the night they left. It was the middle of winter and the snow storms that covered the land in a blanket of white powder were upon them. They walked through the frosted terrain carrying a baby in hand. There were two of them, a husband and a wife. The father was ahead scouring the land ready for attacks. The mother was holding her child close, protecting him from the harsh cold snow storm.
"What are we going to do, we cannot turn back," the mother said yelling as to getting her husband to hear, " they are all dead"
Tears started streaming down her face as she held the baby close to her. Her husband turned around to look at her. She then collapsed in the snow. He rushed over to her and put his arm around her.
"We cant just give up, we have to survive. They are out there somewhere waiting. We cannot rest," her husband said as he picked her up onto her feet.
"I cant do it, I just cant, its too much," the wife said as she slowly knelt back down in the snow.
"We have to try," he said as he knelt down in front of her.
"We cant, the baby," the wife said as she looked at the husband. The father looked at his son with a worried gaze.
"Okay, we should at least find a cave first," the husband said as he picked up his wife for the second time. They made it slowly across the terrain until they found it. A small cave where they can rest up in. It was on the side of a mountain it was small and had icicles hanging from the entrance of the cave. They walked in and the husband helped his wife sit on a big rock that was cold but sturdy enough to sit on.
"Wait here while I make a fire," the husband said. His wife then nodded and then he went outside in the freezing cold to gather wood. He found a few logs that were sitting near by the cave. All of them were covered in snow. He picked one of the logs up and proceeded to take it back into the cave. When he brought it in, he then stood back. His arm started to glow red. He flicked his arm to the right and a red transparent sword appeared in his hand. Using his sword he cut the log into pieces and then stood them up leaning on each other.
He then let go of the sword and it disappeared. He then sighed. He closed his eyes. When opened his eyes he went up to the logs and sat in from of them. He motioned his hand in front of him so his palm was facing the fire. He then clenched his hand into a fist. He then pulled his arm back behind his head then flung it as if he was throwing something into the logs. Then in an instant the logs ignited into flames. He then went over to his wife, who was shivering in the cold, and took her hand. He lead her down to sit next to the fire to warm up. She sat near the fire with her baby, who seemed to be sound asleep. Her husband sat down next to her. Silence. Everything was silent except the storm outside. It was cold. It was freezing. The fire was warm, inviting. They just sat there. Not making a sound. They heard the drops in the cave from the water coming off of the stalagmites. They heard the roar of the snow storm outside. It was silent.
Then the husband spoke. "He is asleep, huh. Little baby can sleep through anything," he said as he laughed. The wife just sat there not paying any attention to her husband. Her husbands happy expression turned serious and turned to face the fire again.
"I'm sorry...," he said.
"I cant believe it...they are all dead...all of them," his wife finally said.
"I know...," he said.
"I thought it was gonna last forever...I guess nothing does...whats the point anymore...why are we running...," she said as tears streamed down her face. Her husband hesitated and then spoke," whatever happened...happened...we cant turn back time..."
"We could have prevented it. Why didn't we? Why didn't we?" She said as more tears streamed down her face.
"There was no way to prevent that from happening...believe me...I would have if it meant saving everyone...we have to keep moving," he said.
"Keep moving? How? To where? What is the point? Wherever we go they will find us. Its hopeless...," the wife said.
"If I could get into Bay City then maybe...," he said.
"Bay City?!," his wife said angrily interrupting her husband, "open your eyes!! We have people and blades chasing us and you are concerned about Bay City?! That is miles away from here, we will never make it! What is so important in Bay City?!"
"I don't know...I was hoping...," he said as he got up to pace.
"Hoping what?! That we could hide out there? I wanna go home!!
Everyone's gone, who the hell are we gonna ask?! Who?! There is no one left! You can't always be the hero all the time!! Everyone is dead!! Who the HELL is left to protect?!?!," she said in an angered voice.
"You and our baby, okay?! You and him are the only two things I have left in this world...," he said as he knelt down and wept, "I thought could save you but I just cant...this is all my fault!!" He then wiped his face and then stood up. "And you know what..."
"...I'm gonna make things right..."
