Growing up with eccentric materialistic parents who left him in the care of his grandfather for a job overseas, Zhang Heng had learned to adapt and be unfettered by the oddities and challenges in life. But he would soon learn the baffling truth about the world he thought he knew when one day at midnight time froze and he found himself in a world so quiet and still it was deafening. The mysteries surrounding his newfound ability only deepened when a strange old man claimed to have given Zhang Heng that ‘gift of time’ and recruited the young man to participate in a cryptic ‘life-changing’ game on his behalf. Little did Zhang Heng know that accepting those terms meant embroiling himself in many versions of reality and exposing himself to the hidden secrets of the world—a decision he could never undo.

48 Hours a Day

After Zhang Heng returned to school, the last words of the bartender still lingered on his mind. She had spoken to him the moment he was about to leave the bar.

"There have been many weird people around recently. You better stay away from the person with Ahoge."

Zhang Heng thought for a while, and the only person with Ahoge was Nanako Mukaichi, the apprentice that Chen Huadong had accepted earlier.

Nanako Mukaichi was Hayase Asuka's junior and had arrived in China as an exchange student not too long ago. Zhang Heng had met her once, and he helped her find the books that she wanted to buy in the bookstore. At that time, Zhang Heng was interrupted by the old man in a Tang suit. Not knowing where he had popped out from, Zhang Heng said goodbye to Nanako Mukaichi and Chen Huadong.
