Chapter 4

Special Actions Division.

Location: unknown

Major Cottrell were asked to send search parties from higher authorities. The camp at San Francisco city was inflicted on the shoulders of one of his lieutenant named Gerald. It was almost thirty two hours since Gerald checked in. Major was trying to retrieve the signals from the tracker on his lieutenant. He couldn't loose more men. It was already a total chaos. One of his new lieutenant came across a weak signal at the middle of the city. Spectrometer they applied was one of the strongest so their guess should be right. It can be Gerald and he would possibly with some civilians. He shared his knowledge with the Major. He seems to be happy with the news but wasn't ready to make a quick decision. He didn't knew what to do. It was a tough call. Either risk everything and save a good soldier and some lucky survivors who have a good chance to be dead or just left them there to die and go on with the mission. Since he doesn't have responded to him in almost two days can mean two things. Either he is dead along with the civilians or he is heavily injured and the civilians are helping him. Both ways they will be terribly vulnerable. They would need a one heck of a plan to escape from this situation. They might be able to help him if they could reach the terrace of a twenty floor huge multi speciality hospital, right at the center of the city surrounded by a swarm of walking dead people. Air transport is the only escape plan they got and they have to take it. Major asked Benjy, Gerald's best friend and a respected lieutenant to have another look on the whereabouts of his old friend.

Benjy took out his gadget tried the all the possibility of that signal. Now there is a danger that the signal might be lost after maybe a few days and they will be forever blinded from his friend.

He found out that the signal didn't had much difference in a couple of hours. A chill ran down his spine. That could also mean he is already deceased. He can't just call him. He might be hiding and this could totally disclose their location and jeopardize their situation. He stood up and went to his camp that is allotted to him. He closed the steel door behind him. He was so worried about his best buddy. It was him who proposed to this location since it is his hometown. It wasn't just a small friendship between them. Years of friendship evolved to something even bigger and better. Both knew about this but they just weren't disclose it to each other. There was a pic of him and Gerald in his phone. He just stared at it. He could do that all day and go on with it. He just send a message hoping Gerald's phone won't do anything stupid. He waited for some time. He could see the message just hanging in there.

He waited for almost four hours before someone replied.

" Is this Gerald? "; Benjy texted.

" No.

My name is Brian.

I am his friend. He is heavily injured. "

" Is he there? Just tell him to call me."

" I'm sorry but he needs rest.

We have one within medical expertise."

" Are you safe?" ; enquired Benjy.

" Yeah. Right now we're safe "

" We know your location.

You guys just need to get to the terrace."

They were loosing the signal. They need to get out of that room to regain the connection. It wasn't going to be any easy. They don't know about the very quantity of them. It can be millions or maybe the whole town against them. They need to expect the worst.

Benjy threw his phone in frustration. He kicked the chair in front of him. He leaned against the wall and looked around. He should be here if it wasn't for him.

A soldier came up to the door and called for him. He was wanted by the Major. Soldier said that he is planning for strategic operation to contain the infection.

Everyone gathered around for a quick conference. One of the doctors were ready with his presentation. All gathered around with an impatient ears. They all fought for a similar goal without any discrimination of ranks. Doctor gathered his reports and was going through it for a final time and begins.

" Okay. We might have figured out the source of this deadly phenomenon.

These things are mutated rabies virus or also called as... " ; major stopped him and asked him to get to the main point.

" So what I was saying is that you can't easily contain these kind of savage creatures. These things evolve almost like every minute. It will adapt to any response we give him.

Now to the interesting part.

It's DNA is not phosphate based."

Doctor went to silence as the whole room went crazy.

Major stood up and faced the doctor and asked him;

" So doctor, are you seriously now saying we're dealing with an earth born 'alien species.

" Yeah.

If you want to call it like that.

But the thing is this. Since it is sulphur

based there can be some element that exist

in periodic table that might be able to weaponize."

" OK. Just find the perfect one and create an

antidote. " Benjy tried to help him.

" If it was easy as that." doctor exclaimed.

" What do you mean?"; major enquired.

" No. You don't understand.

It can be combinations.

mixtures -

compounds -

it can be anything.

It will take years of trial and error before we

find the correct permutation. By that time the whole mankind as we know will be no more." doctor mentioned it hopelessly.

Benjy heard the whole thing in disbelief. How the world as changed. It was all quiet and peaceful almost a week ago.

Everything changed just like that. In a snap. Now they are talking about some indestructible mutated alien species.

He didn't left the table. He just sat there watching the wall. He could remember his parents, his friends, Gerald. He didn't even know if they were still alive except for Gerald. He never tried to call them after the first two days. After the last call he heard no sound except for some occasional growling. He didn't want to keep his search party on them.

Well this phenomenon shown them something new to this world. There was no discrimination at all. The victims were all random; and so for many were relating it to the last judgement.
