Chapter 6

Dust was settling in. Everyone was smiling at each other. They were awkwardly feeling happy. Somewhere they were felting a comfort of a family. They seems to be starting to trust each other. They woke into reality when they heard some banging on that elevator door. They all stood up and gathered some random structures to cover the door just in case. It was just another tough day for them. It was almost two weeks since this apocalypse has started. They seems to be like they haven't bathed in ages. But they were not worried about that. All that humanly needs have just dried up. Now the serious problem is that they don't have much ammunition to fight. All they have left is some knives and scalpel. They need to make their own weapon. Clad went to take a look at those stored medicine. She seems to be very disturbed. She can't really say if it's right or not.

" Is everything okay?"; Gerald enquired Clad.

" No -

I mean I don't know if I am right." ; she tried to

regain her knowledge.

" Right about what? "

" About these drugs that they have loaded

here.

According to me, these things can make

some serious fire power. "; Clad tried to

explain.

" Well; isn't that a good thing." Aldrin doesn't

seem to understand the situation.

" Yes of course it is.

But my question is, ' why you need this in a

hospital?' " Clad tried to explain it to her.

" Maybe they are used in some medicine.";

Brian joined their quick debate.

" No.

I don't think they need to store one of these

poisonous chemical unless they want to clear

of their competition." Clad didn't seems to be

satisfied.

" What does that even matter? "; Brian quickly took over the situation.

" Yeah. You're probably right.

It doesn't matter."; Clad doesn't looked as she sound.

They made her a lab for her to work on. Gerald was trying to get connected with Benjy. He gathered the information about this plague. Clad was so much relieved by this new information. She think some of those chemical might be their life savior. She was able to gather some DNA samples of those creatures. They got the blood sample from the elevator door. She was trying her best. Gerald needed some rest. He wasn't completely recovered and the last scene just made it worse. He was trying to lay down.

Brian was feeling uncomfortable. He didn't have much to offer like others. He didn't have that kind of knowledge about this topic so he just left it for others and went to a corner. He crumbled down his feet as it was shivering with pain. He stretched it but couldn't feel it. He wished it was all a dream and they are all sleeping in their comfy bed waiting for their beloved ones to wake them up. But the fact that it is true is making him go crazy. He just sat there staring at the wall. Aldrin was watching him. She knew how he felt. There was something about him. She felt him more like herself even knowing he is by no chance related to her. He remember Aldrin of her husband.

She went towards him. He didn't seems to notice her arrival. He was going on with his staring. She walks up to Brian and sat beside him. He turned and looked at her. His eyes were hollow. She couldn't see any emotions in it. She fixed her eyes into his. Her eyes went to his lips and back to his eyes. She took her face closer but he stopped her by her shoulders.

" You don't know me." Brain tried to explain.

" I know enough."

Brian let her go and returned back to his position. Aldrin thought for some time. Her eyes just got focus on Gerald who was in his phone. It's fortunate that those are still working. She had a quick smile as she was thinking something and she turned to Brian.

You know; my husband's name was Sam."

" Sorry?"; Brian wasn't paying attention.

" Well, my husband's name was Sam -

like your daughter."

He gazed directly at her eyes. She was young; not like himself. He waits for some moment and asked her.

" Do you have any children."

She shook her head.

He throws a sarcastic grin at her. Aldrin didn't seems to understand its meaning.

He tried to relax himself as old memories came rushing into him. He turned to her.

" She was beautiful." ; he just stared at the

black void on the wall.

" She used to play with me.

I could do that all day.

Everything I did was for her but some guys didn't seem to understand."

Aldrin didn't know why she was sobbing. It was not her life but still -

maybe inside we are all the same.

He turned to her and she replied. He was taking slow heavy breaths. Both came so close to each other. They waited for a moment but Aldrin couldn't take it anymore and she just went for it. Brian was not in this world. He can't believe he's doing it. Last person he kissed died twelve years ago; his Martha!

They were interrupted by Gerald. They need to find some food supplies to sustain themselves. Food they have gathered are almost depleting. But they didn't knew were they are going to get so much food in this hospital unless they consider going to a rest shop.

" Look if you're planning on rest shop then there is one on this floor.

This should probably be the tenth floor and there is rest shop in every five floors." ; Aldrin shared her knowledge.

" This is not tenth floor. This is eighth. " ; Gerald corrected her.

"Are you sure?"; Brian didn't seems convinced.

" Yeah.

I was counting."

" So how are we going to get there?" Aldrin was confused.

" Same way we got here. " ; Gerald replied.

" Wow. You really going back there."; Clad who was coming back from her work couldn't believe it.

" It's OK.

Now the elevator is down.

I don't feel much threat." Gerald tried to

convince others.

Brian seems to be agreeing to the plan but others doesn't seems convinced.

Clad broke this silence as she was up with something.

" OK; I'll come with you.

This thing isn't perfect but I think it can still

produce some serious blows."

" OK; then it is fixed.

I and Clad will go and you guys look after

each other."; Gerald talks like he's already in

the business.
