The Shotgun and the Sleeping Maiden

The girls Jake had recruited for their colony were living in a clapboard bungalow a couple of blocks from the fast-food restaurant they used to work at, back in the good old times. Li Yang and Jake passed through an intersection with traffic lights along the way, and were blown away to see the lights were actually working: the yellow light blinked lazily maybe every half-minute or so. And there even was some justification for that: they saw at least a dozen other vehicles on the move before they arrived at their destination.

True, most of those vehicles were bicycles, converted to carry as much goods as possible. They all had big wire baskets hung from the handlebars, and most featured a big carrier over the rear wheel. Some of those wire baskets actually contained stuff!
