Swatting Away An Annoying Fly (3)

"I want you to complete this mission, Mia. Remember this is an important mission, don't to that foolish mistake again. After completing it, I want the answer to be yes or no and I would not tolerate any maybes, do you understand? Not a single of my missions is to be taken lightly. I am letting you go unpunished doesn't mean I have forgiven or forgotten how my important task failed because of you, it's just that you have to be successful this time if you want my forgiveness, understand?"

"Yes, dear. I will not fail you. I am sorry for taking that mission lightly. However, now I will be the one to complete the task, I will make sure that I come here only when I unravel the mystery behind that girl." Mia replied in a serious voice. She knew she couldn't act lovely now or else it will irk Adam and it might decide to never forgive her. So she compliantly followed his commands.

"Good, go on now."

"Now?"

"Yes, I don't want you to waste a single second here, the early you can complete this task, the better it will be. Go now."

"Okay."

"Mom, I will be staying in my apartment for a few days, at least till dad calms down. Also, I have some important work to do and it is near my apartment so it will be convenient for me if I stay here....don't worry I am not mad at him, just a little sad by the way he treated Emmett....yes I will talk to him when he calms down....yes, tomorrow I will come at home to take few of my belongings, but why do you ask?.. Okay, I will come early then. Bye, love you." Jennifer ended the call thereafter she combed her hair and tied them up in a bun. After going through her skincare routine, including putting on the face cream, moisturising legs and hands, she got up and peeked out from the gap in her bedroom door, trying to get a look at Emmett.

After bathing, she was carried out by Emmett to her bedroom. She was thankful that she at least had her bathrobe in the bathroom, so she didn't feel shy being carried out by him.

He went out after putting her on the chair of her dressing table.

After confirming that he was not in her sight, she limped as she walked to the kitchen to drink water, only to stop at the kitchen door as she suddenly smelled something nice. The aroma of freshly cooked dishes wafted in her nose, she felt her mouth-watering at that delicious smell.

Taking the step forward, she saw the good-looking man arranging the dishes on the table. His sleeves were folded neatly just a few inches down his elbows. Two of his shirt buttons were opened and a small sheen of sweat could be seen on his forehead.

Though the dishes were mouth-watering, she felt that the man was even more delicious than the food laid on the dining table. Gulping down her saliva more of a drool, she walked inside.

"What did you cook?" She asked as she leaned from behind him, trying to watch what kind of dishes he had placed on the dining table. Not able to get the proper view from behind him, she sneaked her head in between his left arm and his body, to look at the dishes laid in front of her.

"They look delicious." In her head, she commented, 'Not as much as you do.'

Looking at the girl who had her head between his arm, he commented, "Why didn't you call me?" He sounded displeased.

He pulled out a chair for her and urged her to sit down first.

"I am okay, really. I can walk on my own. You have been carrying me since this afternoon. Now I have gotten enough rest. I can walk for a few minutes continuously. I will be anyway getting rest for the whole night." Jennifer explained.

"I promise I will not strain myself any further."

"Okay," he weakly conceded, "Take a seat now. I have cooked a few dishes from whatever was available in the kitchen. You must be hungry as it is already dinner time, almost past an hour since we arrived here."

Jennifer smiled in embarrassment. She had said she would be quick in taking a bath. But she nearly took an hour to get ready.

"Dig in." Emmett passed her the cutlery.

One bowl and one plate for each were neatly arranged on the table, filled with tasty food; the smell was enough for one's mouth to water.

"I didn't know you could cook." She started, as she took a bite of the foie grass he cooked.

"How does it taste?" He looked at her expectantly.

"It tastes..." She drawled, looking at him with a 'not so great' expression.

The shine in his eyes dimmed, the expectant look vanished as he instantly removed the plate in front of her.

"If it does not taste good, don't eat. I will buy something from outside." Saying that he got up taking his dish in the other hand.

Seeing that he took her expression and words seriously, she immediately stopped him, "Wait!! I didn't say it tastes bad."

"That means it doesn't taste good too. No need to eat it. I will go and buy something now."

Jennifer face palmed herself. She didn't mean it that way. Well, she was at fault for not explaining it properly.

"What I mean is that it tastes heavenly. I was just pulling your leg. I didn't know you would take it so seriously that you literally took the yummy food in front of this hungry woman. Give it back."

When he still stood still and made no efforts to pass her the plate, she urged him, "Hurry."

"Are you really sure it taste good?"

"Are you not confident in your cooking? If you still don't believe me, try it yourself." Jennifer made a face as if she was being wronged.

"No need, I believe you," Emmett sat back and passed the dish to her.

She excitedly took the dish and started eating.

"You didn't answer my question. When did you learn to cook? And how come you cook so delicious food?" As far as she learnt from Ava, she told her that Emmett didn't know how to cook. So she was surprised when she tasted the foie grass made by him.

After chewing the food in his mouth Emmett replied, "Various situations teach you things we need in our day to day life. I learnt cooking when I was not in a good situation. Let's not talk about it. Taste the mushroom soup I made."

"Okay." She took a mouthful of the soup and instantly a smile graced her beautiful face.

"This is just as delicious as the foie grass. I am lucky to have a boyfriend who could cook."

In her excitement, Jennifer didn't ponder on what she said, but Emmett heard everything and his handsome face brightened up. His eyes twinkled in happiness.

As Jennifer continued to eat her food, she thought about the answer he gave to her previous question.

In what situation he must be that he needed to learn how to cook? Because Ava had told her that Emmett didn't like to cook and nor was he a good cook.

She wondered if it was because he lived alone and couldn't afford to hire a cook. Given the current situation with his company, she deduced that it might be the case. She didn't mind if he was poor. She just felt bad that he had to overwork himself just to...

She shook her head to remove those thoughts. The only good thing was he had rich friends. And she very well understood why he didn't ask for their help. If she was in his place, she would have done the same.

A/N: You know she likes him and he likes her too just that they don't know it yet. Also, she still thinks he is gay. Though she likes him but this is the sole reason she is hesitating. I don't plan on clearing this yet, though I previously mentioned I will.

This volume would be focused on their romance, as in Jennifer experiencing romance and not them getting into a real relationship. The end of this volume would be a little tense. I am giving you a hint. Please prepare yourself for that.

Remember this story is a love-hate relationship. Also, you can read the synopsis again, you might get a gist of what is going to happen at the end of this volume.

Him being gay will be cleared in the future.

Also, I still haven't mentioned the real reason why she thinks he is poor right? I have just mentioned it vaguely. You can deduce your own conclusions from it.

Well, you should actually blame Ava for this misunderstanding. The reason will be revealed soon but I will let Jennifer misunderstand him being poor, haha, as it is fun.
