The Confrontation

"Fanella! Where have you been?" Maeron breathes deeply placing his hands on his knees.

"Why does it sound like you've been running? It's not your strong suit you know." Fanella laughed placing her hand on Maerons shoulder and passing some pure energy into him.

"Woah. That's better! Where do you find that stuff? Wait… why was I looking for you? Oh he's looking for you! Rilien is looking for you! I said he should talk to you and now he is! Look at me go! Big brother to the rescue." Maeron asks.

Fanella laughs. She could always count on Maeron to be in high spirits. She began walking with Maeron to where Rilien requested her. The happy feeling she had with Maeron seized.

"Rilien what are you doing! Let go of her!" Maeron rose his voice, it was understandable given the situation. Rilien sat with a young elven girl on his lap. She had been crying and he was holding the only thing that could pierce elven skin effortlessly. Fanella now knew what that shiver down her spine was from.

"She's the human you saw?" Rilien questioned.

The girl nodded.

"Stop this!" Maeron yelled.

"Are you commanding your future king? Someone might think of that as treason.

"True, only an advisor should speak to a king like that. Rilien, you wanted to talk, lets." Fanella walked up to the girl and picked her up with no fight from Rilien.

"Oops, hand slipped." Rilien smiled as it lightly scratched Fanella's arm.

"I am fine, your majesty. Thank you for your concern. Maeron, why don't you go play?" Fanella looked at Maeron who first looked at the knife, still in Rilien's hand, then nodded.

"Alright, sweetheart lets go play."

"Was that really necessary?"

"Yes! If they think they can trust humans, they will die anyway." Rilien stares off trying to avoid eye contact. He lied exactly like she did.

"As your advisor I don't think your hatred of humans is healthy."

"Then prove me wrong." He swallows as then taking a deep breath shifts his eyes back to Fanella

"If I found a kind human and brought them back as proof against THIS, would you give up this...this game?" She gestures at him.

"You would willing bring a killer within the boundaries of our forest? That is treasonous talk."

"Right, but as princess I get a pass. Until you are actually king, I pardon myself from all crimes to which I act in the interest of our people."

"That's not fair!" He calls out slamming his hand on the chair.

"You would go against ancient texts just to have a temper tantrum? You have a duty to listen to your royal advisor." Fanella spoke carefully. Only in the ways of the old texts would Rilien be more adaptable to her requests.

"Fine! In respect for the ancient texts if you find a human that could pass for an elven, in regards of manners as well as spirit, I will learn how to forgive them. I must ask, how do you plan to find a human that will even listen to an elf?" He seems to be infatuated with the idea, placing his folded hands to his mouth and leaning forward.

"I don't know. It's been a long time since any elf has left the border, maybe things have changed. Who knows, it might be easier than before." Fanella nodded in excitement.
